I can't play AC Odyssey when UPlay is in offline mode. You can thank or send your damns to all pirates of the world (probably over 2 billion) who get illegal games back in 1995-2009. Ubi, EA and many others went very strict with their login programs since. It gets even better though. It gets much fucking better. Guess what DRM is supposed to do. DRM is supposed to push back the hackers cracking the game for a few weeks, maybe a month. Let that sink in. All those shitty pieces of DRM you've been battling for years, you're dealing with a system meant to delay hackers for a few weeks in order to preserve initial sales. Brilliant.

"Why not just implement a DRM system that only lasts a few weeks so gamers don't have to deal with publishers fuckery for years on end"
No, can't do that. Honest players need to be punished, and punished hard for the actions of others.

Denuvo is the anti-cheat software that was used with DA:I and probably with ME:A and now Anthem. It requires a constant online connection and in my view why the game's FPS takes a hit. On top of that, hackers can now crack the latest and greatest in a few days. Wonderful.
Its purpose? As noted in a previous post to preserve initial sales that are crucial for maximum sales.
I noticed (PC) that the initial size of DA:I was reduced by ~10MB once Denuvo was removed. Has anyone notice the size of the executable when the patches were applied?

In a few years I figure companies are just going to give up on local data altogether for the big titles.

When was this removed? Never noticed any framerate change, so I don't know about that part of your hypothesis.

A shame it’s come to this. I haven’t played Anthem, it’s not my sort of game. From a personal perspective, I do find it sad that seeing the name Bioware on a game no longer means and automatic purchase for me.
You just can’t be assured of the same quality anymore. Hope that conditions improve for the talented people who work there or they find greener pastures.

There is a growing portion of the populace that resents all of this "service" "always online" "another client with another password to remember" nonsense. It is nonsense. PC storage has never been cheaper. There is absolutely zero need to stream a game, full stop.

If the companies simply stop selling the games the way you like, will you stop playing? I probably would. I still have enough games I enjoy playing in my existing library (and many still on the backlog) that I wouldn't need to buy any new titles for a very long time. But I can't imagine major devs taking such a backasswards step. They want to expand, not contract, their userbase. Anyone who doesn't live in a metro area in the first world might not have access to the bandwidth/speed required to successfully game over the net. You can happily stream Netflix over a satellite connection, but the lag would suck for gaming.

If the companies simply stop selling the games the way you like, will you stop playing? I have already stopped playing, don't you get it? The last gaming purchases I have made have been DLC on sale for older titles. Biower hasn't gotten any of my money since DAI. I got TW3 for free with my GPU... I have stopped buying new games almost entirely since DAI. I know this blows your mind.

If the companies simply stop selling the games the way you like, will you stop playing? The last Bioware game I bought was DAI.
If they want to push game streaming or other restrictions and thus add criteria besides game quality or platform to my no buy list, then I'll play more board games and card games again. Read more.
I live in a first world country, Germany, but my town just 20 km away from Frankfurt (!) has only gotten fast internet LAST YEAR. A town where property prices have skyrocketed, not some sleepy middle of nowhere village. I'd been downloading games at 700kbs on my 6000 snail speed contract for a decade! Germany in general is waaay behind in the internet speed race. I believe I couldn't even get the bandwidth needed for videogame streaming even if I was willing to pay a lot of money for it.
Nobody needs this nonsense anyway. 4K movies are already a total waste unless you sit two feet away from the screen. I know because I have a 4K TV and the difference to a regular bluray is small. Let alone that 4K streams look worse than 4K blurays.
All these hi tech "innovations" are just consumer rip-offs. And if the gaming industry decides to go full mainstream snake oil salesmen tactics too, I'll walk away. It's a hobby after all. Why would I keep playing if I'm not getting what I want? One might have to accept shitty working conditions. But shitty roadblocks to fun? Yeah, no.

1080p is fine, but 2K (1440p) is the sweet spot between 1080p and useless 4K, without too much pressure on your system. What a shame that the percentage of 1440p monitors is very low compared to 1080p and 4K ones. Not many options...

This game streaming idea is not happening that soon for sure. You might have problems accessing decent bandwith in suburban areas of the biggest European cities (like London, for instance), not just in smaller towns, so hardly anyone could play games like that.

I commend you on your preorder policy. Why pay your hard earned money for something that's not coming for a while.

What a shame that the percentage of 1440p monitors is very low compared to 1080p and 4K ones. Not many options... I have an expensive 1440p monitor, not designed for gaming but that's fine. A lot of games, especially unoptimized NON triple A games struggle even at that resolution with a GTX 1080 Ti to maintain 60 fps. Never want to go back to 1080p but 4K I do not need. Gaming at 2K is already way too expensive. As for console resolution, I tried to discern a difference when playing Horizon Zero Dawn between Full HD and the checkerboard 4K and couldn't really see one... texture quality seemed remained the same too, which is way more important than resolution. But let's not completely derail this thread...

That doesn't necessarily mean much other than a revamp of a loot table or item creation in something. Worse case scenario they change everything within a year. That said, the assumption that the game needs to be salvaged "in time" is a bit odd to me. Do they have a timetable for success at this point?

In a small way you may get our wish. Respawn announced that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is a good old-fashioned single-player adventure. Now we know EA likes their “live service” games. So this is a surprise. Didn't EA recently shut down Visceral Games because their game was a SP?

I'll believe it when I see it!
Still, I won't be buying another EA game ever again in any case unless DA4 is a no MTX singleplayer game that doesn't suck.
But here's hoping at least that the game is successful and EA starts to understand that a good game sells, a good game sells DLC too.
I would never spend any extra money on a mediocre game. DLC are expensive in comparison to how much base game you get for your money. I need to be really in love with a game to shell out 10-15 bucks for a 3 hour extra story like Shadow Broker. Aside from Bioware games I think the only other instances were Bethesda games and Witcher 3. Oh, and HDZ. Not counting GOTY editions.

Ironically I have a 1366x and 1600x laptop and PC monitor (below 1080p but above 720p), but my cellphone is 1440p! For 3rd worlders 60 fps on a good texture graphic game is quite the magic!
