That's a bit presumptuous, don't you think? So presumptuous that you categorically deny fault for Canada indefinitely. Given history and geography, I can think of a lot of legitimate criticisms towards America that one might construe as anti-American. This would of course lead to an eventual exaggeration, which might breed the illegitimate criticisms to which I'm referring. And beyond some joint operation training (essentially being at the same place at the same time), I didn't really work with Canadian soldiers, but I find an appeal to comradery among allied countries via joint training to be misrepresentative towards the personal opinions of many Canadians and the associated cultural cringe that does exist towards America (as it does in many countries.) Is "one might construe" in your mind equivalent to "are"? And why "of course will this lead to an eventual exaggeration"? And about our soldiers my point was that when it really matters you can always count on us. I find that saying anything else belittles the men and women of our country that gave their lives fighting jointly in wars with yur soldiers. Have a great day, buddy. That's all I'm going to say on this anymore with you.

The fact that we are laughing at you you define as anti-Americanism? We laugh at everybody including the French, including ourselves. You might want to provide some examples of this one. And French as in France? Or French as in Quebec? Because from what I remember, we've been entirely too tippy-toe with the latter. At the beginning of the game what happens? Even in Quebec city? Even in Montreal? What, the national anthem? That happens at every sports game, in every country, ever. Did you see what I was framing the example against? A bar, a German bar no less, going full out German in the States suddenly breaks out in the Star Spangled Banner and for those moments, no one in there's German, they're American. Or rather, they were always American but they took a break that night to be German and still in the middle of that, they took a break to be American again. Ever hear of something similar happening up here? I have not. 1. Sure : "la langue francaise elle est bien quebecoise" is a slogan that appears on buses in Montreal. Do you not find that to be a joke, albeit a bad one? 2. Yes, the national anthem. It is sung in both official languages of our country, because that is what defines us. And as I told before, I appreciate your example, but we do not need to sing our national anthem in a bar to be patriots. We need to be patriots when it counts.

Canada and the USA are made up of large populations, obviously more so in the USA. The vast majority of these people are very much alike, there are good people, bad people, patriotic people, non patriotic people, people that are in to politics, people that don't care about politics, people that like sports, people that don't like sports, people that like video games, people that don't like video games.
Our society tosses out exaggerated generalizations about people that live in counties and most often these generalizations are merely outliers.

Read my post from the unpopular opinions note. To be blunt, I think you're intentionally trying to contort my position on Canadian cultural cringe towards the United States, while somehow trying to construe it as some kind of moral victory (something I'm not trying to get involved with) by invoking military themes and a differential approach to patriotism in our countries (that I can't help but think of is some kind of attempt to de-legitimize American patriotism.) If that's not the case, then let's move on and address the idea that Canadians have a broad undercurrent of anti-American sentiment. Maybe 'anti-American' is not the word to use, but a general... bias or stereotypical view that many Canadians do have towards America. For example, here is a comparison of how Canada and Australia both view the United States (written by an Aussie.)

And please, next time when you visit us, try to see the real Canada, not the one that you have in your mind. I'll just leave this for Crutch to move to the 'comparison' thread. Suffice to say, I saw plenty of the real Canada. I hate to break it to you, but we disagree on the nature of 'the real Canada' in several ways. Sorry if that's a problem for you. Besides, whatever happened to 'different points of view?' Is mine illegitimate because I'm critical of some aspects of Canadian culture that do exist, whether you acknowledge them or not?

I find Quebec's ridiculous laws on font sizes for signs a joke but of a very different sort. A mere observation does not a joke make, usually. The point was everybody sings national anthems at sporting events. This does not make us special. As for definitions, our only real definition seems to be letting everybody but us have a definition (speaking as an Anglo Canadian).

I'm not so senseless as to name names, but I know a couple of posters already find it outrageous that I don't have a negative view of America as a rational American. Haha Well this place doesnt generally have a good past/present/future when it comes to well... potentially controversial things like this so... Never fear the controversial. Things go to hell that way a hell of a lot faster than the alternatives. I dont fear the controversial as SUCH but moths and flames come to mind ... maybe not the right way of expressing it... maybe like the t rex and the red flare from Jurassic World Haha Well this place doesnt generally have a good past/present/future when it comes to well... potentially controversial things like this so... I'm not so senseless as to name names, but I know a couple of posters already find it outrageous that I don't have a negative view of America as a rational American. That issue rears its ugly head every now and again. Eh im kinda neutral about this country. Some good, some bad... but im no patriot. I think there are many many many countries id rather live in and have a better culture personally I dont buy into the whole pledge of allegiance thing or anything like that... it makes me go 'ewwww no' and cringe more than anything else... it genuinely sends a chill down my spine its just... I dont know... I find it off putting and generally unnerving... is that weird??? It goes for other patriotic things also i get quite unnerved when I see it... a little like the feeling I get when im around drunk people or when people have power tools... I have no idea why drunk people and power tools make me feel the same way as patriotism but eh In terms of a cultural difference, between USA in like the 20th century and now the 21st... 21st century USA is infinitely better just saying... our culture now is better than it has ever been... worldwide culture is the best its ever been if you compare us now to what we were 100 years ago even... so much has changed

I tried to point out that you are expressing an opinion of a country in which you do not live, which makes you "I hate to break it to you" less qualified than I am. Would you accept my opinion on US matters without any question? Oh, wait... I have never expressed an opinion on US matters. And I won't because it's not my problem.

Probably not comforting but I thought the whole world fell out of love with the States during the Bush/Iraq war disaster? At least in Europe we're still resentful. Especially liberal middle class Germans are so anti-America it's not even funny anymore... I talk about it with my American friend all the time. Our media is having a party with Trump. Oh boy! Also every black man shot is like Christmas for every self-righteous German. Americans are ignorant racist gun wielding nutjobs to us. Nevermind that Germans are buying toy pistols like crazy to "protect" themselves from terrorists and refugees and that racism is soaring like crazy these days. A police officer was killed yesterday by one of our own racist nutjobs. Projection is a fascinating thing. Germans LOVE Canada on the other hand! Myself included. I'm a nature lover, so Canada is top of my list of countries where I'll try to flee to when ISIS invades Europe. ;P Not a fan of the US government but people are the same mix of horrible and awesome everywhere. It's not like Merkel's insane politics are any better. And America sure is beautiful. Just got back from four weeks of touring nine national parks.
