I actually discovered both Mass Effect and Dragon Age through a more convoluted process than most, as I initially came from the Grand Strategy game fandom. Around 2017 I was frequenting a large forum called Sufficient Velocity, in particular, the "Quests" section. A "quest" is a kind of forum game where one person acts as the "Game Master" or "Quest Master" and writes a story, but the playerbase gets to vote on what the characters are doing, making it basically interactive fanfiction. One type of quest that I was interested in particular was a "CK2 Quest," a kind of quest based on Paradox Interactive's Crusader Kings II grand strategy game, in which the players' PC is the leader of some kind of organization or nation and the players must vote on the actions the PC and their advisors will take on matters of the organization, usually divided into various categories such as Military, Diplomacy, Stewardship, etc., thus combining roleplaying with strategy games like Civilization. One day in August, I saw that somebody had started a new CK2 Quest called " Terminus Quest" set in the Mass Effect universe, and I started participating in it. That got me interested in the Mass Effect universe so I eventually decided to get the trilogy and play through it. Around the same time, I found another quest on SV called " Dragon Age: After the Tale Ends," in which the players take the role of a Male Cousland who was crowned King of Ferelden after the Fifth Blight and now has to deal with running the country alongside some of his former companions. It was about to end, but I found the premise interesting and, after I finished the Mass Effect trilogy in December of 2017, I decided to start playing through the Dragon Age trilogy, and once I completed Inquisition, I was totally hooked. I've also decided to make a "CK2 Quest" of my own that will act as a reboot of that quest, with the same premise, and I hope to turn it into a grand narrative spanning hundreds of years of future Thedas history.

Wonder if anyone realizes that DA4 has likely been pushed back till 2024-2028 release date?

My boyfriend at the time introduced me to the first Mass Effect, and I fell in love with it. So when the first Dragon Age came out, I knew I had to try it, because it was made by the same company.

We know Bioware’s working from home. They’ve tweeted about it many times, including that one post with the teasing image of vague DA4 files.

Wouldn't they be pushing resources and staff to that Anthem 2.0 thing? So that it's ready for release. (With all this virus crap going on).

You know Bioware has moer than one team they do have enough resources to work on several things at once. The virus may slow things down but things still can get done.

I was a big gamer from the late 70s to early 90s and then took 20 years off for 'life'. Finally in 2012 circumstances changed and I decided to try gaming again. I had fond memories of Ultima, Bards Tale and their ilk from the 80's so I Googled around for RPGs and stumbled across Dragon Age Origins. So Origins was my re-introduction into gaming . . . and needless to say I was blow away, lifelike animation, fully voiced characters, fantastic story that reacted to how I played, mind blowing after 20 years away!. Played Origins, Awakening, and DA2 to death until transiting into Inquisition when that came out. Absolutely loved everything about Origins and today its still my favorite single game, despite playing all sorts of stuff since. Funny enough after Inquisition I was feeling in need of a good RPG and didn't know what to play. I had picked up a Mass Effect trilogy boxed set on special but had absolutely ZERO interest in a sci-fi series or a shooter. In a fit of boredom I finally installed it and give it a try, and was instantly hooked of course. The Mass Effect trilogy as a whole turned out to be the best gaming experience I ever expect to have. Now I have more games on my to do list than I can get to . . . its hard catching up on classics I missed and new releases! And so many RPGs.

At the time it being bioware certainly helped but for me ultimately it was the setting. In the early part of that decade the LOTR trilogy had sparked my interest in fantasy. I eventually bought oblivion and really enjoyed that and then a couple years later bioware came along with their own take on fantasy with DAO and looking back i can see where they blended elements from both Tolkien and Martin to come up with their own thing. I would love to see the series return to it's DAO roots though I am not sure EA will let them.

It was all pure chance for me. It was 2010 and my gaming friend told me she had grown tired of our co-op games and didn't want to play anymore. Being a grown up, my response was something along "fine, I don't need you, I can play on my own!". Thus began my search for a game I would like (you know, just to show her!), but everything looked so boring. I found my way into the RPG section and there was this little game that was highly approved and a recommended buy. I looked at it and... wasn't impressed. Then I saw that I could create my own character, and decided (having been a Sims fanatic years earlier) that fine, at least this game offered this, and I bought it. Funny thing was, I was convinced I wouldn't like it, and I started playing it feeling quite indifferent... until I managed to persuade a spirit in the mage origin to not fight me but just give me the price anyway. That made me feel like what I did or said actually mattered, and after that I was absolutely intrigued. I started playing hours at an end (I was a student, so not really an issue), to the point where my friend asked me what I was doing and why I never badgered her to play anymore. In the end I got her hooked on it as well, and I've made at least three friends completely addicted to the game since.

I was (still am) an ME fanboy. Hardcore ME fanboy, and I went to the old forums.
I think I got DA:O to make custom forum avatars in old BSN. (No, seriously).
I eventually played the game and mostly enjoyed it. As in, I hated the mechanics, but loved the story.
I'm still at best a casual DA fan, and never did a play through of DA2. Inquisition was cool though.

To answer the poll: Other -- when I found out you could be gay and have fluffy romance. Went out and bought an xbox immediately at the tender age of 32 🤣
