ME2>ME3>ME1>MEA But the combat is best in MEA. Story, drama, characters best in all the others.

Mass Effect 2: Dat Ass and Dat Suicide Mission Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC and the gut-wrenching choices that can affect characters you've grown to love (looking at you Mordin) Mass Effect Inquisition 2: (35 hours in) Mostly good, love the Nomad, Tempest and combat. Mass Effect: Great game but aged combat makes it a bit of a drag for me to go back to. Mass Effect Inquisition: Weird game. no guns, no mass relays and strange new aliens called Elves and Dwarves that somehow live on the same planet as you yet have no space ships. Could be something to do with destroy ending in ME3. Also had to banIg this weird man called Cassandra.I would I would like to point out that your final remark is HILARIOUS.

Rank them based on? Personal preference or something else. I like them all and acknowledge that each of them has its own flaws.
ME1 -> The Rise of Shepard. I played it when it was first released and it was a hell of a journey. The writing was good and it sets the trilogy into motion.
ME2 -> Rise of the Vanguard. Bioware over reacted to my complains about needing to convert too many junk into omni-gel by removing inventory all together. In return we got good action combat; I believe this is the series that gave birth to the Vanguard play style. Some said it cannot be done but after much dying, Vanguards conquered insanity. Also ME2 has some of the greatest missions in the series and sets up the final chapter of the trilogy perfectly.
ME3 -> Bigining of the End Dumb down Vanguard with Nova so that any tom-dick-harry can play them... meh. The most emotional game in the series. It was so perfect until.... I shot the stupid kid in the face... "So Be It" says Bioware
MEA -> New Dawn This is a reboot of the franchise. Best combat in the franchise, so many crazy things to try and do, so many new ways of killing and dying. Best level design in franchise, I love exploring for secrets.
Average writing and a team of ultra inexperience developers made probably the buggiest Bioware game to date. (I experience a large variety of UI bugs, strike team menu gets stuck, squad who has been killed carry the down icon on their head all the time, fall into a pitch black place where I cant even pull out the main menu forcing me to alt-f4 the game Grrrr.

Hard to say. I usually wait a month or so or at least two playthroughs so the novelty doesn't effect my judgment. Besides I still have a hard time deciding which trilogy game I like the most. I find ME3 and ME2 swapping places.

ME1 ME3 MEA ME2
MEA might top the list once I'm done, because so far it's basically looking like ME1 in a giant world with improved ME3 combat and a punishing Insanity difficulty.
ME2 dead last regardless. Way too little RPG, way too much action movie.

So far: 1. ME 2. ME3 3. ME2
I haven't played MEA for long but from what I've seen so far I expect it to fall somewhere between ME and ME3 or--worst case scenario--between ME3 and ME2.

Story: Mass Effect 1 > Mass Effect 2 = Mass Effect 3 (i think 3 did a better job at plot than Mass Effect 2, but the ending of course holds it back) > Mass Effect Andromeda.
Gameplay: Mass Effect Andromeda > Mass Effect 3 > Mass Effect 2 > Mass Effect 1
Worldbuilding: Mass Effect 2 > Mass Effect 1 > Mass Effect Andromeda > Mass Effect 3 (aside from Citadel and Leviathan, I don't remember much worldbuilding in 3...)
Overall: Mass Effect 2 > Mass Effect 1 = Mass Effect 3 > Mass Effect Andromeda

I just can't do that. I love each one for their own things. I can't ever pick up with ME2, for instance, without first playing ME1. I love the Mako. I love the beginning of the adventure in ME1. Love becoming immersed in the world, meeting the crew.
ME2 I love the combat. The journey. The squadmates. The Illusive Man. The music. It's fantastic.
ME3 I like the callbacks. The combat. The gritty desperation. I love the decisions you make, and the culmination of your hard efforts.
MEA I love the idea. The escape to a new galaxy. Meeting new aliens. I love the Tempest, the Nomad, the crew. I looooove Suvi. And PeeBee. And Cora (why can't she be bi??). I love exploring and the humor and the unfolding mystery.
I honestly can't put them in order. They are equal in my eyes. They are one thing: Mass Effect.

ME1 ME:A ME3 ME2
They're all good games though. I only put Andromeda and one in top two since they're the closer rog games and they're open world esq planets set on exploration. 3 and 2 still follow great story but went more action over rog and had corridor based map styles with little to no exploration.

1. ME2 2. ME1 3. ME3 4. MEA
Doing my second playthrough now where I am doing everything, not just main story but while MEA may get better it still probably won't even beat ME3 simply because of the story and ME3 wasn't nearly as good as the first two for me.

MEA turned out to be just my style, more relaxed, more adventure, more discovery, and it places it at the top spot. ME1, comes second but only for the story and, at the time, incredible sci-fi adventure where nothing on the market offered the same. ME3 comes third, and ME2 last.

For those of you who have played through a decent chunk of ME:A, where would you rank it in comparison to the other Mass Effect games? I'm not yet finished with ME:A (on Kadara), but so far I think I'd rank them ME3 > ME2 > ME:A > ME1. I have to agree with your ranking. I found ME3 and loved the SP and MP, so I tried ME2 and it was good, but not quite as good as the first time, then I tried ME1, but even with mapping the keys to be like the others, I didn't like the gameplay and never finished. Right now I rank MEA about as good as ME2, better than ME1 but not as good as ME3. That's my humble opinion.

My ranking in terms of story, gameplay and protagonist: ME3 > ME2 > ME1 > MEA
I have only finished 50% of Andromeda, so maybe it will change. I doubt it though. MEA will always be last for its dumbed down combat mechanics. Even ME1 is more fun to me than that.

It's hard for me to rank them because it all starts with Mass Effect 1 hooking you into the series.
1. ME2: Everything worked for me. 2. ME1: Awesome story and I'm a SPECTRE. 3. ME3: Minus the last 30 minutes and the restrictive areas, it stayed true until the RGB ending. I am not adding Andromeda to the list (it might make #1) after it's patched thoroughly, but right now it's not a favorite at all.

ME1>MEA>ME3>ME2
1) ME1 - my absolute favourite. It was a magical experience playing this for the first time. One of my favourite games ever. Before criticisms resulted in much of what made it special stripped down and removed in the travesty of ME2. I will always remember watching the E3 tech demo and just falling in love. I'd never been so excited about a game! Couldn't wait for it to be released! Spent hours playing it, collecting loot, getting my team in matching Colossus armour sets ❤️
2) MEA - I am just loving it! Back to the roots of what Mass Effect was always supposed to be. Finally! Maybe after more time with it, it might end up joint first. And that's saying a lot - I've played through ME1 more times than I can count. I FAR prefer the original team mates but the new ones are growing on me, and I'm only 30 is hours in. LOVE the exploration and the huge planets and the variety of environments. Love seeing outposts develop. Love the galaxy and the environments and the skies and weather and plants. Really enjoying it so much.
3) ME3 - repaired for me some of the damage done by ME2 but a LONG way from ideal. My story was already spoiled from ME2 when they split up my team and made my Shep work for Cerberus - I would NEVER work for Cerberus, and really it made zero sense they would want to hire me and a squad of aliens based on their ME1 background. The ending was a bit balls.
4) ME2 - this game broke my heart when I first played it! I hated how they took Wrex off me. Made me work for Cerberus. Dumbed down the entire game mechanics and removed so many RPG elements. Oh and that damn Mission Complete screen. Just urgh! So tacky and immersion breaking. Playing this was the most disappointed I have been about any game in my life. Disliked most of it really. 💩
