DragonEffect Meredith's the Knight-Commander, and at the moment, seems the Templars support her. Who was not with Thrask, was with Meredith. Including Cullen. Meredith declared at the beginning of the Act3, she doesn't want a new viscount, the Templars rule over the city. Hawke can't expect any benefit from her and her Templars' support. And you said: Cullen knew, she's mad, but still supported her, and while he seems a little bit shaken, still defended her and her methods (even in the Inquisition...). Yes, he compared Meredith to Uldred – and even when she said, she invokes the Right of Annulment, Cullen remained with her. At the moment when Hawke should choose, can see a madwoman, who want to kill every mage (if Hawke's not a mage, his/her sister as well), and seems the Templars support her – as always in her crimes. King Alistair is clear about that a secular ruler can't do anything against the Chantry/Templars. It was also clear from the first moment, when Hawke arrived in Kirkwall, that Dumar is Meredith's puppet, she don't want to work with anyone, who doesn't want to be her puppet. There's nothing suggest this will change. How Hawke's able to hope, after s/he helped to kill every mage, Meredith will go to the prison just because s/he asks her... (At the moment Hawke can't see, there a chance to protect anyone – including Bethany). So: Meredith is the Templar Order in Kirkwall herself. And Hawke is the Champion, not a prophet. A madwoman with a dishonest army against the city.

Most RPG's I choose to play as a rogue. First time playing DA2 I tried out rogue, didn't like it, went mage and now all the DA games I pick mage in every PT. Bloody hate Carver though. Much prefer Bethany. That said the clash with Carver is more interesting than the congenial relationship with Bethany.
I really like actually having siblings in DA2. It's an underappreciated relationship in gaming. The sibling dynamic is pretty unique. I love both, while slightly prefer Carver with his brotherly rivalry. I agree, absolutely great and unic having sibling(s), family, and their dynamics. As I said, I love Carver's dynamics better, but Bethany's absolutely not just a boring good girl (I admit, I thought at first sight), if you try to understand her.

Me can no stand carver, and Bethany is a teeny bit annoying too, I could do without them as siblings tee bee aych, would rather be an only child, which would suck cus too much unwanted and exclusive attention from parents as an only child, I’d imagine. ANYWAYS I LOVE FIGHTING AS A ROGUE - oops - I love fighting as a rogue in da2, but I agree that mage makes for a better story, and I love playing a blood mage, HOWEVER, carver annoys me so much I avoid playing a mage just so I can watch him being crushed by an ogre I like to play as a warrior at times too though, don’t have to be a mage to be awesome, but it is hard for me to play a game without using magic... damn carver! Damn him to I still feel as involved with the story whatever class I play as though I never ever get that inexplicable hatred toward Carver. He's great character, whit a great arc.

I'm sorry, I'm not that active at the moment. I have visitors over this weekand am not online that often. And on top of that I was in a car accident. It was luckily not my fault and the woman, who rammed my car, confessed already to the police. Nonetheless, it's a lot of telephone calls, paperwork and running around. It's so sad, that even if you drive careful, things like that happen. I do agree with dragon and for now, believe romices hint. Which means, she needs protection. I'm trying to think of a good question to ask Heimdall, but I'm not sure. Can we ask if a suspect is a spy? Sorry for that, the paperworks are suck, but I'm glad, you're okay.

So I'm finally nearing the end of Act 1, just need to finish up Act of Mercy and Shepherding Wolves, as well as turn in First Sacrifice and Enemies among us I'll also need to do a few more other things to set things up for Act 2 (like telling the Arishok his men were killed in order to get the Basalit-An title later on)
But that's for tomorrow (I'm also still pondering on the path Bethany will be taking) (Shepherding Wolves is one of my favourite quests.)

That always bothered me: Meredith was right there, when Anders blew up the church, he confessed afterwards and waited for his punishment. Yet Meredith did - nothing. She turned around, accused Orsino as if Anders wasn't even there ... what the hell? I mean, even if she wanted to pin Anders deed on Orsino and the circle mages too, she could have dealt with the one standing there confessing first and then accuse Orsino of helping. That always seemed highly illogical to me (to quote a favorite Vulcan) But no, none of my Hawkes ever sided with Meredith, she is just too batshit crazy. And to be honest, after reading the Band of Three codexes, my solution would not be to lock the mages up, but to evacuate this sorry excuse of a city and start somewhere new, where the veil isn't that frail. Has no one ever asked, why there are so many serial killers, murderous gangs, blood mages and crazy templars (did I forget something? Short tempered Qunari maybe...)in Kirkwall? That's clear: he wanted to destroy the mages, she never really interested toward the truth and right things, even before the red lyrium – while she was not that mad. Meredith still wanted to kill every mages, whatever was Kirkwall's past, and no matters, how thin is the Veil here. In the possession of this knowledge, the mages still the good choice: much safer, if they go out of Kirkwall – and the mages don't deserved to die, just because of the Chantry chose a bad place to their prison.

That little Carver jig is so cute... but also really bittersweet. Bioware is really good at strangling you right in the feels. I do sometimes wish they'd offer a HAPPY ENDING FOR EVERYONE option in the Dragon Age sagas... but alas, it wouldn't be Bioware if they did that. If siding with the templars makes your heart feel barfy, you could do it in an exploratory save just for the achievements and then delete the save file immediately afterwards, lol. I've done that during my "morbid curiosity" moments... or times when I hit the wrong key. I'm still trying to forget the time I accidentally asked a fully-romanced Cullen to end our relationship. *shudder* The wounded puppy-dog eyes will haunt me to my grave. True enough, 'sides it's not a good story unless it makes you feel things whether good or bad
I have attempted some more "evil" playthroughs in the past, but could never really go through with them...I have done more evil characters in other games (mostly Elder Scrolls by joining the Dark Brotherhood), but for some reason I just can't be evil in Bioware games
and I never tend to break up with characters, they tend to break up with mine I remember my first time playing a male Warden, I wanted to romance Morrigan but got Leliana instead...then Morrigan started feeling jealous and more or less seduced my Warden which ended with him having to make a choice between Morrigan and Leliana, choosing the former in the end...Leliana was really sad after that, I felt bad for her
it's also to bad that Kieran has started to grow on me, which leads me to mostly having Wardens who have a relationship with Morrigan, or having Alistair do the ritual (which also makes me feel bad ) I kind of want to make a playthrough where Morrigan doesn't have a child...well I have, I had Loghain take the blow back then, but Morrigan was so bitter during Inquisition even though she and my Warden had been friends and I deleted that world state
so yeah, I like happy endings too, generally I try to find the happiest endings I can for my characters, their love interests and the companions it isn't always perfect, and maybe it's even boring...but I love creating stories like that I also love the happy end – sadly seems my red!Hawke wants to fight with the Nightmare... Not like he wants to sacrifice himself, or has a deathwish, or feels any responsibility about that Corypheus – but seems this is the greatest challenge he ever met, how can he resist? (And Stroud saved his brother's life) Also I'm sure he's not that kind who would wait for anyone else's decide about his fate. Eh... he's stubborn, leads my hand. I didn't bring him to the Inquisition yet – so, his fate still open, but I wrote that story already as a possible outcome.

Ostwick being so close to Kirkwall means they might have sent their Templars to Kirkwall to provide them with reinforcements.
That could explain one of the dialogue options from Mage Trevelyan claiming that Ostwick's Circle was so boring, they didn't so much rise-up against the Templars as walk out the door. Vivienne claims the Ostwick Circle was considered pretty loyal, so if the Ostwick Templars did reinforce Kirkwall, they might have only left a token force behind that wasn't equipped to deal with the mages when they unexpected did rebel?
[...] That may have been true when Vivienne was part of the Ostwick Circle but that may not be true by the time of the rebellion. According to Trevelyan's mage codex entry the Ostwick Circle "did not decide in favor of either templars or mages, clinging to neutrality during the rebellion" which matches with how the Circle being described as sedate. Still, based on conversation with a mage Trevelyan, the place seemed peaceful enough if they were apparently able to walk out...even if it is the place where that pissy Tevinter-loyal mage in Redcliffe came from. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was her who killed Enchanter Lydia. It definitely seems like a place where the templars would be comfortable enough to send potential reinforcements to Kirkwall instead of guarding the Circle. How I hate this. How can be "neutral"? That's the worst. The neutrality is the worst. Even the Aequitarians aren't "neutral". These mages don't care about their own fate? They don't have opinion about their life, about themselves? Bah! This neutrality is that I hate in the Inquisition, a lukewarm shit. I understand, they wanted to let people play their own style. But why they just let it vague, instead that "neutrality"? But yes, still the Inquisitor can tell to Josie, that it was terrible... why the Inquisitor can't say to Vivienne, that s/he was who killed that Loyalist? (I would LOVE to see Vivienne's reaction.) Who perhaps would try to prevent the rebellion? This would be the freedom in RP game, not that forced neutrality. How exactly can be a hero someone who doesn't have opinion? About his/her own fate, about him/herself... For what, for whom does such a person stand for? Nothing... because Corypheus perhaps right, who knows? Neutrality is important! (I know, I have passionate opinion about it.)

On a somewhat related note, World of Thedas revealed the codex entry author "Philliam, a Bard!" is part of the Trevelyan family, thus making him a distant relative of the human Inquisitor. His full name was given as Philliam Bernard Aloicious Trevelyan. Vivienne is such a treasure! /sigh
