Oh, TV and movie dubbing is far better then games dubbing for sure... just not when it comes to accents. I, for instance can't - for the life of me - watch Lucifer in German TV, since the character looses all charm without the British accent. I personally hate the German dubbing culture, because even good dubs are not on par with the original and it can be really difficult to find movie showings in cinemas in the original. I kinda disagree? Imo, most movies are just as good in german, and for some reason Disney movies are often better. Same with TV shows, though cartoons are often worse (Steven Universe and Gravity Falls, anyone?). In contrast, shows like Dexter and most of all Scrubs are much, MUCH better in german. Videogames are mostly rubbish though. Bioware especially has a lousy dub track record. I tried playing Inquisition in german and wanted to rip my ears off. And german FemShep is terrible. Also, german FemHawke is in every german dub for anything ever, which is really really distracting. ^^

So i have been disappointed because of the review scores and the writing complaints, but then i checked the Reddit review Megathread where they helpfully collected the verdicts of all the review sites, and it actually sounds better than i thought. For one, and most importantly, i thought bad writing and bland characters were a universal complaint when they really arent. There are just as many reviewers saying Andromeda has a good/great story and good/great characters. Seems its more divisive than i thought. ^^

The writing just feels off imo. This feels like fanfic tier dialogue Really? I have seen flirting like this happen countless times. Its realistic, especially for people their age. Just because Ryder isnt suave doesnt mean its bad writing.

Can someone who is on twitter ask if buyers of the german version can play the game in english? Bioware games dont have the best translation track record and it could dramatically lessen my enjoyment of the game if im forced to play it in german. DA:I and ME3 had the option, but from what ive heard you cant change language in the Early Access. Im very concerned. Dunno how it is in Germany, but in Poland I have to order the game from UK *if* I want to have English voiceover AND English text. I can't switch text from Polish to English. Here in Germany we had no options at all (Audio+Sub) for the first 2 games of both franchises, i think. But both ME3 and Inquisition have had english voices and text. So they have the original dub in Poland, but no subs? Thats dumb.

So i wonder how some of you who are against politics in games would feel about the Persona series. Its a series of JRPGs mixed with life-sim and its incredibly engaging and interesting. The thing is, Persona games always had an element of "Japanese society could be great, but right now its horrible" going on. It was mostly when you bonded with other characters and not during the main quest but still, it portrays messages like "Japan is sexist", "Japan drains its people of joy", "Japanese gender roles are way too restrictive", "Holding on to tradition for its own sake is bad", etc. All very SJW sounding things, aint they?
And the fifth game that is about to come out over here apparently drops all pretense and the games main quest revolves around the fact that Japanese society should and has to change, so much so that it is even set in a real actual city instead of a made up one, and some conflicts are ripped from the headlines. That all sounds pretty heavy handed right? But according to western previews and japanese reviews and audience reaction its the best of the series and a really great game in general. I for one cant wait to play it. ^ ^

The emotion thing actually intrigues me. We live in a world where it is sadly discouraged to show too much, if any, emotion, and we hunans have a very..."colourful" history regardless. Imagine how society would have turned out for us if we were like the Angara. Imagine how devastating their wars must have been. How tense peace negotiations. How awesome holidays. How crazy hooligans. How nerve wrecking social events. How near apocalyptic puberty. What im trying to say is, your average Angaran's married life seems pretty sweet, but i bet divorce is hell. ^ ^

Aight guys, time to grace you all with my beautiful singing voice, and kill whatever little reputation i have on here. ^^ I have recently found an old audio file that should've been left buried and forgotten. Once i met someone on the internet who, upon hearing i actually enjoyed Pretty Cure, would not believe that even i can sink so low, so he dared me to prove it to him by singing the opening from memory. I underlaid it with the original opening in the background so you dont all die of cancer. XD PC is a pretty good show btw, in the same vein as Power Rangers. Campy fun with entertaining action, good characters and great character dynamics that has a million sequel series which actually improve on the original. Its basically a more girly Super Sentai.....Jesus Christ, that was the nerdiest thing i have ever said in my life. (Seriously though, my singing voice is not good. Prepare your ears.^^) vocaroo.com/i/s1beGxnlAwSI

Man, I don't know, it really seems like "I want realistic representation of various groups in my games" is just codeword for "No women or minorities, please" or "Oh sure you can include women or minorities, but make sure only make straight white men as the leaders in your games, ok?" It's ridiculous to expect work of arts to always be apolitical, anyways. It's real humans with real viewpoints who make them after all, not some unfeeling robots with no opinions whatsoever who can be perfectly neutral at everything--sorry, it just doesn't work that way. I dont know. I agree that it isnt really as big a deal as Laughing Man makes it out to be (or at all, really), but i dont think hes racist/sexist. I just think that he is one of those "dont shove it down my throat" people, which can be a reasonable position. It isnt in this case imo, but that doesnt mean that you should directly assume the worst. Calling everyone racist / sexist for the smallest stuff is the reason so many people are anti-progressive today. Continuing this trend will not help our position at all.

I can attest that purging negative people from one's life is a confidence booster(and much more). Also, I've found that maintaining good posture with walking/sitting, maintaining firm eye contact with people, speaking in a firm tone, engaging in light playful banter with various people you come across day to day(like cashiers in stores) and putting more effort into your appearance all add up to boosting confidence. Eh, it depends on the person i guess. I do all of the above already (Except caring about appearance. I will never change my ways of wearing lame, outdated, ugly, cheap but extremely comfortable clothes. ^^) and i have the confidence of a brick. But i did see tips like those helping other people, so it clearly does work for some.

I dont know. Only one of the hundred atrractive got slapped, so i guess its a double standard kinda thing. We got info that we are only allowed to talk to people between 20 and 30. We actually got a whole list of people we WERENT allowed to talk to. It was kinda ridiculous, but i still got enough people in the end. Ok, that is still unacceptable to slap someone just for a question, I assume you didn't stalked them or was to offensive (that would really destroy the experiment). So the point of the experiment was to see how females in the age 20-30 would react to this questions by different males? Did any of them have a boyfriend/girlfriend? To be fair, I'm a little against social experiments because it is so many variables involved, everything from the place, to the time, your clothes, are they angry, are they in a hurry, have they eaten etc. Not saying it is impossible, but the sheer amount of variables make it a kind of roulette that is counting of luck. But hey, you get money and a (pity) coffee. Some of them had boyfriends, one of the slappers had a girlfriend, but one of the rules was not to approach anyone with company so it didnt come up too often. Coffee was pretty good though. ^^

I must say that I should probably be in the same situation as you, but really they slapped you? Why? And that "woman" is apparently, sorry for the word, a retard. I think it is better to take the words of "one woman army" (Who may that be ) then that "thing". Overall, I'm not surprised that most people are choosing apparences over other factors. And what would you say was the overall age of the persons you asked? That is a factor that can make a difference. And I salute you for your bravery. P.S. Being a cynical is harder than it sounds, I'm a half cynic so I know what I talk about. I dont know. Only one of the hundred atrractive got slapped, so i guess its a double standard kinda thing. So i did the thing. Here are the results: I questioned 125 women. I got no numbers, but that was a foregone conclusion, didnt expect anything else. Im under the normal margin for my group with that. The unattractive people got 3 numbers in average. The attractive people got 54 numbers in average. Results of the post-reveal survey: People are f*cking shallow. out of 125 women 121 said that looks are more important than personality. 11 of those said personality is not important at all, or very very little. The other 4 said that looks are just as important as personality. The overall results of the whole group reflect the same. This has caused me to become even more unsympathetic to people with relationship problems. For someone like me who despises shallowness this was a very eye-opening experience. I actually think i turned into somewhat of a cynic. ^^ Other results: I got slapped 6 times. The average slaps for my group are apparently 3, so above average this time. In how people rated me in terms of looks and personality. My own ratings: Looks: 2 Personality/Charisma: 4 Ratings i got from the study: Looks: Lots of pity 5s, but the honest ones all got between 1-3. Nothing above 5. Personality/Charisma: That actually surprised me. I got one 2, two 1s, and one 3. All the rest were between 7-9. But as we have seen above, that doesnt mean anything anyway. ^^ Random thing that happened to keep with the theme of the thread: I got actually pulled aside by one girl who bought me a coffe and proceeded to give me dating tips for 20 minutes, followed by TWO. STRAIGHT. HOURS. of explaining that i will never get a girlfriend in the nicest way possible. Seriously, she was clearly beating herself up over saying these things, but felt that she had to make sure i wouldnt fall into a loneliness depression because "There are enough suicides happening around the world." XD Here is my favourite part of that conversation. I was giggling inside the whole time, because it was just so absurd. She: "You know, its not your fault. Im sooooo sorry for you. You didnt choose your looks, and neither your anxiety. But these things, especially looks, are very very important."
Me: "...Yeah, i get that. But a woman recently told me that these things become less and less important the older you get. So i think theres hope for the future."
"Oh, wow. That bitch doesnt know what shes talking about." (Sorry OOA..)
"Ah, i wouldnt say that. Shes pretty cool. If anything, id say shes more of an One Woman Army." (Thank you, ill be here all week.)
"If shes an army than her soldiers are clearly underpaid and underequiped. Jeez. The thing is, while looks do become less important over time, patience is waning too. If youre in your thirties you arent going to have the patience to deal with people who have never dated before. You are used to the whole relationship thing by then, and having to teach someone who clearly should already know better is more frustating than anything."
"Ah...alright....Ill...uhm....tell her that, i guess?"
"Yeah, you do that. See, the whole dating experience runs on the holy trinity."
"Holy trinity?"
"Looks, Confidence, and Fun."
"Ahh, okay. Well yeah, i guess im not that great at either of these things."
"Exactly!" After she said this she looked mortified, as if she thought she was the scum of the eart. She gave me 10 euros at this point. XD "Exactly.... let me tell you how it works.
- You can be boring and ugly, but you better have the presence of a superstar. That is very attractive to women, and if sufficiently pronounced can easily make up for your flaws.
-You can be boring and shy, but you better be a supermodel. A good piece of manmeat is a garantueed ticket into an easy relationship.
-And lastly, you can be ugly and shy, but you better be able to entertain her 24/7. If she enjoys herself literally ALL the time than she couldnt care less about looks and boldness. Just believe me, i know it isnt fair, but please make peace with the fact that you will stay single. You are literally a date-deterrent. If you do not possess any of the holy trinity qualites, you can kiss your chances goodbye."
This whole thing was definitely an experience. One i wouldnt want to repeat, but an experience nonetheless. ^^

Well that's a bit negative isn't it, Beerfish ? ^^ I actually had a blind date once, although we hadn't specifically planned it under that name, it was more like "Oh you're going to the same club tonight? We could meet up and see how it goes." You could say it went well, since it ended in us becoming a couple. That's ten years ago now. ______________________________________________ That study sounds weird. Why ask the women if they want to participate in a study if you then go on asking them out basically? Why not skip the whole "pretending to do a study thing" and just try asking them out? And afterwards reveal that you did a study? (I know you did not come up with this.) Also if 200 random men are supposed to do this, are the data even reliable? What if the guys lie afterwards because no woman gave him her number? Also who decides if the men are attractive or not? So many questions. It sounds weird and dubious and not very scientific to me. (And I am probably overthinking this. ^^) Well, we have pictures of ourselves in the database. I was also asked to confirm that it was me by sending a photo where i made a specific gesture. So they do know how we look. For the lying, i think because they would have no reason to lie? Its not like our names are gonna be made public. Not sure though.

Something random that happened to me: Im registered in a german study database thingy, so if someone wants candidates for a study they can find my profile. I was now chosen for a study for the first time, and its really weird. ^^ They sought 200 men age 18-25, in two groups: Attractive and Unattractive. Guess for which i was chosen. XD
They all have the same task. Until Friday they should go stand in a usually busy place (I live 10 minutes from one of the biggest malls in Germany, so i got that covered) and do a survey for at least 6 hours total.
They should wear what they usually wear (In my case a jeans, black shirt and black leather jacket cause Tunnel Snakes rule ^^), and carry a clipboard with paper for the survey. Only there is no survey.
What were actually supposed to do is ask conventionally attractive women if theyd like to participate in a survey but ask the following things instead. (Here is where it gets really good ^^)
1.Whats your name?
2. Your age?
3. Can i have your phone number? (what)
If she gives number :
4. Last question: Would you like to go on a date with me? (...whatwhat?!)
If she agrees: Make plans
After that we are supposed to reveal everything and ask typical questions like why they acted the way they did, how they would score me in both looks and charisma, if they gave out numbers if those numbers were real, and if they agreed to a date if they were going to follow through with it.
The last sentence allows us to go through with any date we scored if we want. (lol)
The results are then compared to study female double standards in regards to men, and how much looks, charisma, boldness, and confidence matter when it comes to dating for men . An opposite gendered study is to follow.
Compensation: A hundred bucks. Im still undecided if i want to participate. Could be fun though.

Skim a bit through this thread, and you should get an idea: Slammed ! To say it in words : Theres a company called Choice of Games who produce very Bioware like detailed text games. In these threads someone who posesses one (In this case me) writes down what happens until it gets to a point where we need to make a choice. Everyone gives their input as to which choice should be made and why, and then the decision with the most votes is used. Rinse, repeat till the game is done. (They are usually between 100.000 and 300.000 words.) Its really hard to explain. Itd be best just skim through the first few pages of the linked thread and see it for yourself. Really fun though.
