If you think Cassandra is anywhere close to being universally attractive then I'm truly sorry for you. With all due respect, you hardly seen to know how men decide whether someone is attractive or not. Ultimately every person will be at least somewhat attractive to someone, but there are is a kind of universal attractiveness that appeals to a large majority of men. I can look at a woman and think "I'm sure almost all my friends will think she's attractive" and sure enough they do. I can look at a woman and think opposite and it will be true as well. Cassandra definitely doesn't come even close into universally attractive territory, and neither does Josephine (although it has a bit less to do with her looks and more with her character). You think I'm some special snowflake, but that is not the case. I can think that a woman is unattractive, but at the same time know that many men will find her as such. That is not what's happening here. What do you mean it has more to do with Josephine's character? What's wrong with her character? She's too innocent and kinda in her world. I don't know how to explain it. She's like a Disney princess, her whole character and her romance is something 10 years old would enjoy rather than young men. As I said before, I've no doubt there were men who enjoyed her romance, but it definitely wouldn't be the majority. Ashley, Miranda, Leliana, Morrigan - strong (in traditional and not feminist sense) women are what attract the most. There are also other fairly universally attractive characters - as it was pointed out earlier, rougish mischievious young characters for one. "Unapproachable" noblewomen is another. Innocent, but with hidden second-self that's not so innocent, like Tali. Josephine takes traits from various types but her combination ends up being bland and unnatractive. It's hard to explain, but really, you can see she's not really popular, especially when compared to the characters I mentioned before and there's a reason for that.

Why I think Cora will actually be the sentinel in Mass Effect: Andromeda!I think most of us assumed because of the leak that Cora was an adept becuase she has the ability to deploy biotic shields. Most of what the leaked showed has turned out to be true. But from the leaked tech demo the ability that is next to the icon assumed to be Cora's is **incenerate.** I say this becuase Ryder uses that ability in the new gameplay trailer and you can see it going on cooldown. It is the same ability next to Cora's icon from the tech demo. So Cora can deploy biotic shields AND use incenerate? Also, Bioware employees have sated that they want to avoid making characters too similar to characters from the original trilogy, so It would make sense that a female companion is the Sentinel this time to avoid a male character being compared to Kaidan. Thoughts?? It definitely could be the case. It could also be that using certain abilities makes others go on cooldown though, as a balance meassure of sorts.

That is not what's happening here. True enough, if Cassandra was universally attractive we wouldn't have threads like this. I suppose I don't know, I thought it was usually based on looks (which can vary depending on culture, and where a person grew up). I didn't think you're a special snowflake, I was just going for a different strokes for different folks type of thing but did so poorly. deadpool9 Avatar Dec 5, 2016 11:47:18 GMT -7 deadpool9 said: Tarkus No need to bring Jesus into this. If you believe, you should know better than to say that. If you don't believe, why are you saying that except to offend people who do believe? It's offensive speech on another level than our obviously inane debate over video game characters' attractiveness. Typed it out of frustration at your post that I quoted, and you're right I'll be sure to type Jimmeny Cricket or just use one of those smilies next time. I'm glad you agree. Honestly, with how few LIs there are in games there's really no point in making characters (at least romanceable ones) that will appeal to only minority, be it in looks or character. Character is also very important besides looks, because while looks will attract in the first place, it will be the character that will make people romance someone. I mean, sure, there will be people who are only interested in the sex scene and whatnot and will not care about character's personality, but once again it won't be majority. And when it comes to personalitites, there are also ones that majority find attractive. Look at KOTOR, it's a very old game. Bastilla's hairstyle is questionable at the very least and the game's graphics didn't age terribly well. Still she's very popular, probably the most popular LI from all Star Wars games. Just look at the amount of fanfiction with her (even femslash). Obviously looks don't come into play that much with her because her face is nowhere near realistic, yet she's still attractive to most men. That's because of how she acts, because of her personality, and the fact that despite unrealistic graphics she was still fairly attractive. Hell, we had BG, NWN where all you had about a character was a portrait (or in case of NWN a very blocky model, not unlike early Lara Croft), yet people still loved and romanced characters from those games. Times have obviously changed and as graphics got better and aspire to be realistic, you need to make characters attractive as well, but as long as character has good personality, people are satisfied if said character is just fairly attractive, she doesn't have to be top model. When your character neither looks nor acts attractively though, you're in a deep shit. You're also in also in a deep shit when your character is well written but her looks are widely considered not attractive at all. You're in a bit shallower shit if your character's personality isn't good but she looks attractive, because that's how the world works. All in all, you should always aspire to make your character universally attractive in regards to both personality and looks. There are lots of personalitites that most will find attractive, especially when they know it's a game. It's really not hard to come up with. Just look at which established characters are very popular and work from that. Looks are even easier to work with, there are lots of sources on what majority of men find attractive. Of course all what I wrote is regarding potential LIs, not all characters.

Inquisition was a mess regarding LIs imo. If I were a woman I'd go for Cullen. Out of women only Leliana was good and obviously she wasn't an option. Vivienne was very good character-wise imo and I'd be willing to overlook her looks in favor of pursuing her had she been an option, because of how terrible alternatives were, but alas it was not meant to be either. I ended up alone on both my male and female playthroughs (wanted to try Cullen as female, but as mentioned in another thread, it felt really weird to me and I had to stop it). I don't think it ever happened to me in any other RPG game with romance. Fair enough. I hope there'll be options you'd enjoy in Andromeda. Was it weird romancing Cullen or playing as a female? Playing as a female never feels weird to me, although it would probably change if I played female and was forced to romance a male. It would also depend on what level the romance would be. I played Venetica where you play as a female and are pretty much in love with a man, but he dies very early into the game and before "anything" (as in sex) happens so it didn't really bother me. As for romancing Cullen it did feel really weird. I tried romancing Alistair in Origins before and had to stop and switched to Leliana because it felt really weird. Same in Inquisition, after few flirts I stopped because I just couldn't go on. I talked more about it in Cora's dedicated thread, page 6 I believe. Head on there if you want a more detailed, hm, review I guess.

Sara's face is ok to me when not in motion. It's the animations that twist her face into a hideous mess. Scott looks a lot better, though. He's very handsome to me. They both have a boy/girl next door vibe which is fine by me. I liked that about Kaidan too. I thought Sara looked good (in an ordinary sort of way) in the wake-up scene. In the recent video I think she looks terrible. Not too fond of Peebee's looks yet but too early to tell. Unless Liam is super hot like Cullen and Cora looks like, say, Sera... I don't think it's a conspiracy. Yet. I mean, as a straight woman I cannot say I was thrilled appearance-wise about those generous four choices presented to me: apart from ridiculously handsome Cullen, there was bald Nosferatu, an old dying man and a grotesque ox with a tiny head... I wish I had played a male inquisitor so I could have romanced attractive Dorian or Cass who just needed different hair to look good. She has gorgeous eyes and I adore her personality. That's what I said before . There are different people of different genders and sexual orientation that didn't necessarily like the options they had in Inquisition, not only straight men. Inquisition was a mess regarding LIs imo. If I were a woman I'd go for Cullen. Out of women only Leliana was good and obviously she wasn't an option. Not overly, but yes, I believe she falls under attractive category. She'd probably be even more popular among latin men, since seeing as I'm from Poland her looks are fairly exotic for me and it's not really my cup of tea. That's bound to happen, since it falls on personal preferences. It shows though that Bioware at this point is still capable of making attractive women, to you. I think Cora might fall more on your preferences. That's what I'm hoping for. If she turns out to be dissapointing I won't have much hope left for other characters though. I wish they had just shown her face (and Liam's while they're at it). It's honestly dissapointing that we know how 3 alien squadmates look, yet not the human ones. You'd think they reveal the "plain" and obvious ones (aka human) squadmates first and move on from there, but apparently that's not the case.

Didn't even know that there was a Barbie movie in the talks. What you fail to understand though, is that males never have any problem with guys having muscles they'll probably never even see in ther lifetime, let alone achieve themselves. Neither do they have a problem with very handsome faces. Various games from various genres had such characters since late 90s and no one cried because of this. It is only lately when it comes to females that the argument "not every female is a model" or "beauty is subjective" or "not all women need to look like barbies" came into play. Games are meant to be jump away from reality. If I am to romance women in games, I want them to be attractive. I honestly see more attractive women during one day at my university than I've seen during my whole DA:I playthrough (and I'm studying IT mind you, not a lot of females here). It literally serves no purpose. To whom making females unattractive appeal to? Straight women won't romance them anyways, and I can't imagine lesbians being happy that women are unattractive. So please, tell me, what purpose does making female characters unattractive serves? No one wants to romance someone with mental traits of a barbie doll. There's a reason why Lara Croft's character is very popular amongst men. She was strong, capable, could take care of herself but at the same time was attractive (both in games, relative to graphic capabilities of course and in movies) and didn't shoo away every men because "muh strong independent woman, I don't need a man". I can't imagine many people want to romance a plastic doll either, but you're of course jumping to extremes as anyone who lacks arguments. No one asks BioWare to make females look like from porn-like Skyrim mods. They can do attractive and fairly realistic (considering it's a game) female characters just fine, as history proves. It is only as of late that they decide against doing so. Cassandra and Josephine are attractive. They haven't made females unattractive. Again, they haven't made the female characters unattractive, they just don't fit your standards is all. deadpool9 Avatar Dec 5, 2016 11:28:11 GMT -7 deadpool9 said: Somebody with a Twitter account please contact @gamblemike and tell him with all due respect that we've all seen pictures of his wife and her modelling of N7 gear. And Peebee, while her attire might be a bit suggestive and whatnot, seems and acts too much like a child for me to even consider going there. She looks like rebellious 15 years old (akin to Mission Vao, as you pointed out previously) and not a romance material. I mean, really, most females wear their hair long. If a goddamn spectre and Lieutenant-Commander of the Alliance (Ashley) can wear her hair long like a model, then I'm sure as hell officials of semi-military initiative can wear it long (at least chin-lenght for God's sake) as well, yet we already have two that have it cut very short. It's definitely not the hair most people find attractive and definitely not the hair most women have. Ah, so far as I saw, the young roguish females are the most popular romance options. Imoen, Mission and Vette are really popular NPCs. My spin through the Asian MMOs showed me that lolis are about as much, if not more so, a male fetish as the tall buxom goddesses. I will not out of hand dismiss PeeBee as an appealing romantic option for a lot of males based on that experience. You might not share their interest, but there are definitely a sex-appeal reason to the male gamers audience to BioWARE churning out perky, pesky, tiny-tiny rebellious, sweet and girly in every game they have made.
I know that BioWARE's tattooed females with shaven heads always brought negative responses from males, be that What's-her-name Witch from NWN2, Kalyio and Jack, and I am not sure why they supply shaven female characters as love interests as opposite to an interesting companion. Perhaps it is because pretty much every female character on the crew traditionally is made romanceable for a male.
My prediction is that Cora will likely be conventionally pretty, and have long flowing locks or pony tails. But handling long hair is hard in the video games, and I absolutely despise the long hair textures in the said Oriental MMOs. They clip and do atrocious things....
Young and rougish? Sure, but just by the misstep she does in the PS4 presentation you can see she's too childish to fit that criteria. Also, NWN2 is Obsidian and not BioWare. Obsidian never focused much on romances. It's better, their storytelling was imo miles ahead of everyone else and it should be what they focus on, since their romance sub-plots were, hehe, sub-par, to mildly say. I honestly think Bastilla in KOTOR was the best romance BioWare ever done to date, even though it was kinda cliche. It tied well into the story and developed fairly naturally. I only wished it was more fleshed out in the Dark Side ending, since there is no acknowledgement of it aside from assurance from Bastilla during fight with her that she will stand beside you as your lover should you turn into the Dark Side.

Everything else aside, I'm curious as to what you think this mysterious cabal of liberal feminists is trying to accomplish by making a video game that contains at least two characters you can't jerk off to. Has it occurred to you that maybe Bioware has realized that they're the only adult RPG studio with a significant audience of not-straights and not-males? Black Isle's been dissolved, or the next best thing to it. Obsidian never really got their feet off the ground and they're starting to circle the drain. FromSoftware (besides being eastern RPGs - a big difference to some people) doesn't do anything to appeal to either sex; I can't speak for all women, but I'm there for badassery and mind-screwy lore. Same with Bethesda (and I think everyone can agree from Fallout 4 that Bethesda shouldn't be going anywhere near romance). And there are a lot of female gamers who I don't think are ever going to forgive CD Projekt RED for Witcher 1's sex cards. Unless you think smart niche marketing is a conspiracy, Bioware isn't screwing over the straight male gamer. They're making things that can appeal to everyone, and if certain people are shallow enough to pass it up based on the existence of female characters who don't have the physical and mental traits of a Barbie doll, that's an acceptable trade off. What you fail to understand though, is that males never have any problem with guys having muscles they'll probably never even see in ther lifetime, let alone achieve themselves. People have different opinions and values. I honestly can't see the resemblance with Micheal Jackson, as they stated often, but it's ok. It doesn't bother me. Ah-ha-ha-hah... it's just getting less and less disappointing. Thank you for making my day. Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha.... The actress she was modeled after is very pretty, but Miranda's in-game model is simply weird. Her face seems too wide and her "smiley" animations (which are bad, as most BW's animations are) that she uses often are only making it more prominent. Imo ME1/ME2 Ashley was really good looking and there wasn't any problems with her face. In ME3 her lips were ridiculous imo (not to mention the completely off-regulation hair...) and her lower face seemed wide as well, though to lesser extent than Miranda's. But at least in the case of Miranda and Ash in ME3 you can see that they wanted to make them attractive, it just didn't work out. What we've seen of females in ME:A so far though is definitely something different, because their faces are simply weird and not attractive at all (there'll probably be some people that will find them attractive, but in no way it would be even near half, let alone majority). Labelling the likes of Vetra as "babe" and attractive is ridiculous, as there will be very few people that will consider them such and it's generally females that feel like romancing aliens that don't resemble humans at all. I always feel good knowing that my LI is with me in a fight. She's got my back, and I have hers so to speak. The bond grows stronger as you experience difficult and dangerous situations together and progress through the story. Agree, especially given the limited budget that romances are going to get that bond building on missions is extremely important to me and hence why i generally find non squaddie romances vastly inferior. Yep, having them on missions also means more opportunities for your romance to be acknowledged in some way (either by some actions of the two of you, or a third party). In an open world game like ME:A will be it's even more important IMO, because you'll be spending lots of time on missions and away from your "base" where non-squad LI would reside.

I was thinking about the PS4 pro tech demo. The fact that he said that they shown it made me thing of the recent one and not the leaked one. I don't think it's a good reference since it looked very barebones, and the other characters look different from how they look now as well. But there is another leak, which mentions some details that are confirmed now, so it's pretty valid metro.co.uk/2015/11/23/mass-effect-andromeda-leak-promises-jetpacks-and-buxom-blonde-5519666/Yeah, especially since she kinda looks petite and buxom. It's only fitting blonde would turn out to be true as well

She didn't have helmet on in the tech demo though. It doesn't matter though, so long as her hair is still blonde it's fine by me (since the icon indicates it will slso be at least chin lenght in some form). Wait, what? They didn't show either Cora or Liam so far without the helmet. She had it on the tech demo as well. They have shown her, but in the old leaked tech demo, not the PS4 one. i64.tinypic.com/29korj6.jpgHere's a shot from it where you can see Cora.

Its a big difference. You don't have the same feelings for friends like you do for the LI There is a difference, but how much depends on the person. Some friendships can be near or on equal level of romantic interests. Both tech demo and leak presented her as such. I'll be severely dissapointed if they changed it :/ Also, her haircut in tech demo seemed to be a bun or ponytail, not loose as on the icon. This is more of a problem with the helmet, since the same happens for Sara. With the helmet it sees she has a buzzcut or ponytail which she hasn't without helmet. She didn't have helmet on in the tech demo though. It doesn't matter though, so long as her hair is still blonde it's fine by me (since the icon indicates it will slso be at least chin lenght in some form).

A LI is added distraction. Less distractions makes it easier to focus on the mission especially when in combat. Same can be said of going in combat with friends though. It depends on the person. About Cora, I'm glad her hairstyle isn't a buzzcut. I wonder if she remained blonde as the leak suggested. Both tech demo and leak presented her as such. I'll be severely dissapointed if they changed it :/ Also, her haircut in tech demo seemed to be a bun or ponytail, not loose as on the icon.

Yep, same here. Peebe is going to be Sera v2 (not to mention I don't find her attractive) and Vetra, well, let's just say I'd gladly have her as a friend, because I can't imagine going THERE with her. And Cora's blonde (or at least she was, hopefully they didn't change it)!!! That alone makes her my number one target. Unless she has some major character flaw (in my eyes) I'm definitely romancing her. Personally I prefer Brunettes. Ash, Miranda, Morrigan, Isabella, Cassandra, Bastila. Redheads are a close second. Triss, Kira Carson. Elara Dorne was excellent blonde companion in swtor so I have high hopes for Cora. As you pointed out though, there were lots of brunettes in BioWare games already and no blondes (not for males at least) and that's why I'm excited. I like brunettes a lot, I just like blondes even more (platinum especially, thankfully there are a lot of them here in Poland ), hence my excitement. When it comes to redheads I don't really like the very bright ones, but it won't stop me in a game (as I romanced both Leliana and Triss). As for SWTOR, I only play Imperials, so it's Lana for me.

If Cora's voice actor turns out to be Laura Bailey I'm gonna die from happiness. Her voice is mesmerazing, I loved it since playing Bloodrayne long time ago and her voice only got better since then.

I would think every gender & sexual preference combo will have at least one human character that is a potential LI. On that note Vetra may not be one of the LIs, unless ME:A is going to be like DA:I and have a cartload of them. I don't think it will turn out at least that the only female LIs for Sara are Peebee and Vetra. If Sara only has two potential female LIs, I'd bet Peebee or Vetra being one of the two, but not both. The other would likely be a human character. You are probably right concerning each having at least one human character as a potential LI. Personally, there is only one human female on the squad and I would prefer my PCs' LI to be a squadmate. That means Cora is my only hope. I have no interest in Vetra or Peebee. Yep, same here. Peebe is going to be Sera v2 (not to mention I don't find her attractive) and Vetra, well, let's just say I'd gladly have her as a friend, because I can't imagine going THERE with her. I think it's definitely more strange to play as female and romance male as a straight male. All my friends who played as females in RPGs either didn't romance anyone or romanced another female. The only case they went for male LI while playing female MC was when the game forced them into it (Venetica for example). It's the same for me really. I tried with Alistair and Cullen but I just couldn't. After few flirts it became really weird for me and I had to stop. It's probably because I'm never able to completely detach myself from the character I play (meaning even though I might play different characters, there are still things I'll never do, simply because I can never imagine doing it myself), and romance with another male is somethind I would definitely never do. On the other hand becoming female is another such thing, yet it doesn't stop me from playing as them even if the game lets me choose. It doesn't bother me like romancing males does though. It's hard to explain, but it's like, your MC's gender usually doesn't make a lot of difference in games besides the looks. Sure, there are some acknowledgements of you being male/female, but it's never enough to make me feel completely different from playing a male (again, looks aside). Romancing someone you're not attracted to in real life though feels like something much more strange. The explanation probably sounds stupid, but between how hard it is to explain in the first place (if it can be reasonably explained at all) and the fact that English isn't my native language it's the best I could come up with I'm not a native speaker myself and I had your explanation sounded as clear as it may be with such an odd and complicated topic. It looks like our vision on this is pretty similar, though instead of "there are still things I'll never do, simply because I can never imagine doing it myself" I'd say "there are still things I'll never do, simply because I believe they are wrong or stupid". After all, I can't imagine myself even going to military, not to mention saving all our galaxy, but my Shep does it easily . So, well, romancing someone you're not attracted to in real life is definitely weird. But after this discussion I more than ever want to try. You know, like a mental experiment or something The "there are still things I'll never do, simply because I can never imagine doing it myself" part was meant to be more about moral actions. What I mean is, when playing RPGs I often tend to go for evil characters, but I can never bring myself to support slavery in any form, even if there are arguably worse things I do than slavery. I can't even imagine keeping the collar on Vette in SWTOR for example. Sending Imperial Death Squads to leave no civilian witnesses during Imperial Agent storyline though? I do that on all my toons. It's weird, but that's how it works for me. Slavery, taking advantage of someone (as in rape), cheating on someone (as in having sex with someone else while in relationship, not playing trickster of sorts) - these are things I won't do no matter what kind of character I play.

I'm 100% sure she will be. She's the one almost everyone from the core audience (heterosexual men) would choose, and BioWare is smarter than that to alienate such a large group. I'd like if she were bi though since I like to play female from time to time as well, yet at the same time I can't bring myself to romance guys. Either way, I'll get my (supposed) blonde one way or another I almost brought myself to romance Alistair in DAO but at the last moment switched to Leliana. Maybe the next time... As for Cora - and Liam with his mysterious haircut - just show us their faces Bioware. What are you waiting for? I was in the same situation like you actually Also tried to romance Alistair and switched to Leliana. My second attempt was with Cullen in DA:I, but once again I just couldn't and opted to remain alone since no woman interested me in DA:I (except for Vivienne maybe and of course Leliana, but they were not a possibility). And I'd very much like to see Cora finally. There were glimpses of what I believe is her in the old tech demo. She seemed to have her hair in a bun or ponytail of sort (and she was blonde ). No face though.

Yeah not sure on the colour scheme but overall good based on limited info and i'm definitely pinning a lot of hopes on her. Yes. Concerning the squadmates, with Vetra and Peebee as possible love interests for Sara, my hope is that Cora will be a love interest for Scott. Personally i'm hoping Cora's hetrosexual or Bi li. Ideally imo Vetra isn't romanceable due to the whole dextro thing. If she is other option is that Peebee is too young to be interested in relationship but given her high profile early appearance that might be just wishful thinking on my part as i've seen nothing about her i like. You'd wonder if all 3 will be romanceable since they generally don't like that unless there's a fourth unromanceable female squaddie. I'm 100% sure Cora will be heterosexual or bi. No matter what BioWare can't abandon their core audience which is heterosexual male who probably wants to romance a human. That said I'd be glad if she was bi, because I like to play as both male and female, but can never bring myself to romance guys (it just feels weird as hell to me). I have a feeling though that Cora will be heterosexual, while Jien Garson will be an RO and bisexual at that. That'd be less fortunate for my female playthroughs (unless Jien is blonde as well hehe, but chances for that are next to 0).
