I'm gonna translate that inferiority complex to my Sara first playthrough. All her life trying to prove to her father, to her teachers, then to her instructors, she is could be the hero. She could be as good as her brother. And every fucking one of her authority figures act like "yeah, you are good, but Scott is the star". Always relegated to be a glorified secondary character. Then suddenly Scott pod fails and she has to be the fucking hero. And she can pretend she is the one for the job but under the surface she doesn't believing in herself because SHE NEVER HAD HER OWN TRAILER she can't picture herself as the hero :contempt: I would honestly watch a sci-fi movie with that plot and dine on the tears of "waaaaaaah misandryyyy"

Just watched it. As a trailer I like it, but the fact NPC!Sara appears as a damsel in distress? Followed immediately by a shot of Scott leading the team? I can't even put into words how disappointed I am. I just how no energy left.
I know I'm projecting, but right now it feels like the trailer was cut by the kind of person who will only ever play as straight default male Ryder.

Kinda wish she got her own cinematic trailer, I'd guess that Sara might get a cinematic trailer after release (I think they did the same with femshep during ME 3). Reinstated, the femshep trailer was released nearly a month before the game. And it remains the one and only cinematic trailer we've ever had for a female Mass Effect protagonist. The only other Femshep trailer was the CGI 'Take Earth Back' trailer which came in both Male and Female versions, though Femshep's was released online with zero fanfare wheras the male version was also aired on TV. Five years later and even that is too much to ask.

so like I'm not outraged or linking it to a sexism/equality discussion I'm just confused cuz I coulda sworn they said we'd get a cinematic trailer with Sara. did I miss one, or am I mis-remembering? shame, I was lookin forward to it. :[ Nope, you didn't miss one. All three of the cinematic trailers - 'Cinematic Reveal', 'Cinematic Trailer #2', and tomorrow's Launch Trailer all feature Scott. Sara has featured in the gameplay videos, often with her face obscured.

I actually think what I missed most in regards to the marketing was more of saras involvement to the story. I wanted to her her voice more and see how she reacted to the squadmates. The fact is that once again, the male protagonist became like the face of the game. I really hoped it would be diffrent this time seeing how they are two diffrent characters. And for those who say that it has been equal - The fact that all the trailers has featured scott, which is used in marketing may I add, should show that that is clearly not the case. Not all people watch gameplay trailers. I really liked and will play both but this is really disapointing. Still looking forword the game though... Reading that hit me pretty hard. You're absolutely right. They can claim they showed Sara a lot as much as they want, but in terms of meaningful content that actually let us connect with the character or see things from their perspective, it's all been Scott. I just can't get over how they think using Sara (usually in a helmet) to show off the combat system, while Scott actually gets to talk and emote, is even remotely fair.

Hell, there's now loads of people who don't realise you can change your character's name in Andromeda. You can? I hoped that names are default... it's weird that people are constantly calling you "Pathfinder" or "Ryder". Or "brother", "sister", "son", "daughter", etc. Ah. I guess my PC's family won't remember their kid's/sibling's name once again... If you leave your character's name as Sara or Scott, characters will sometimes refer to you by your first name (this works even if you customise their face), however you can still change your Ryder's first name to whatever you want, and in that case people will instead refer to you by surname or title. Regardless, your sibling will always have their assigned first name, just so there's no confusion when anyone says 'Ryder'. Probably why there's been so much focus on those names in marketing - getting us used to the idea of either sibling also potentially being an NPC with their set first name.

Like, people aren't asking for much. I know there's morons out there who would claim it is too much to ask for, but really, BioWare, does half the world's population honestly matter so little to you that you're still going to dismiss these claims every single time? They're not going to go away...

And even if they were numerically equal, the fact is Scott gets the cinematic trailers that are going to get way more exposure vs Sara getting the gameplay videos where we mostly see the back of her head and are only really going to appeal to people who actually watch those sort of things...
Like, video game trailers in movie theaters is very common these days, and it'll be a cinematic trailer with Scott that'll play there, not a 5-minute gameplay demo with the back of Sara's head.

It really is beyond ridiculous. In my experience, so long as the protagonist is doing awesome stuff and the game looks amazing, people respond exactly the same. The only difference is, the game would actually stand out more in a sea of characters who look exactly the same as Scott.
Honestly it really baffles me that BioWare still haven't caught on to the fact that showing off how much control you have over how your character looks would actually help things. Literally every time they release a new game, there's comments from people asking if they can change how their character looks or if they can play as a woman. Hell, there's now loads of people who don't realise you can change your character's name in Andromeda.
I remember when ME2 was being advertised, and one video mentioned how you can create Shepard to be exactly how you want them - while the footage playing underneath that claim was of default male Shepard in the default armor. I totally get that the game needs an iconic face for marketing, but they really should capitalise on the fact you can play as anyone you want.
Someone gag me before I take up half the page :/

As someone who records a lot of cutscenes from BioWare games for drawing reference purposes, I can promise you right now if we don't get a cinematic Sara trailer, I'll remake one of the Scott ones from the ground up using footage of her if I have to.
So sick and tired of this; yes BioWare do better than most companies re: diversity, but it's 2017 and they're still advertising their game with a stubbly white guy. I don't have enough limbs to facepalm enough.

Re: Sara, very disappointing that yet again the actual proper trailer features Scott. I know they claimed they'd alternate between the two, and I've already had someone on twitter try to 'explain' to me that it's still equal because of the gameplay videos, but isn't it just suuuuch a coincidence that the cinematic trailers that will be used to advertise the game on TV, before youtube vids, maybe even in theatres, just 'happen' to feature Scott.
Right now I'm hoping there's a Sara equivalent of the same trailer that they'll at least put out online, but I very much doubt it.

I keep telling myself that after the Cassandra debacle - where David Gaider actually appologised on twitter when she was confirmed straight - BioWare wouldn't have a repeat of the same incident, but it all feels eerily familiar. Before DAI, there was way more fanart of Cassandra with female Inquisitors too, and yet...
Anyone else feel like the game has been hovering at "comes out in about two weeks" for over a month now? :/

I feel like it'll all make sense and click into place once we actually have our hands on the game (or at the very least see a video of the menus in action) but right now the MP Mission and Strike Team system feels like some sort of collossal behemoth of mechanics upon mechanics that don't exactly seem very intuitive :/

Honestly I've never understood the hardline 'if you want true equality then you can't have more than straight men' attitude. No piece of media releases in a vacuum, and even today video games along with movies & TV shows are still massively dominated by straight white men. Even if Andromeda released with nothing but same-sex romances, it would only be a drop in the ocean, and you'd still be able to find straight relationships anywhere else you look.
I just don't get how someone's reaction to seeing minorities (whether it be gender, race, sexuality, etc.) getting decent and plentiful representation & content can be to think of themselves first and act like they're having things 'taken' from them.
The capacity of so many straight men to turn a blind eye when they have a monopoly on content, but to suddenly 'care' about equality when there's a chance a piece of media might not cater to them above all others simply astounds me.

According to shinobi on neogaf, reviews go up on March 20 at 9AM Eastern. He also says that the reason the review embargo is close to launch is so that reviewers can play with the Day One patch and have a full week to play the game. Makes sense. Last thing they want is reviews mentioning bugs that won't even be present when the game launches. I know people always worry when reviews go out late, but when it comes to a franchise like this, I think they're pretty well aware they'd probably do more damage to their image if negative reviews went out right before release, rather than early enough for them to fix or smooth things over pre-launch.

As others have said, the problem in DAI wasn't that the system existed, it was how often it was used. In such dialogue heavy games, I'd much rather the devs time be spent polishing important cutscenes rather than applying very basic ones to literally every conversation.
DAI slipped up by having some pretty important moments and conversations delivered through this method, but the system itself is sound for less vital talks, and it definitely looks like MEA zooms in way further, almost reminds me of how some conversations looked in Fallout 4.

I imagine we'll become more accustomed to picking up the differences in their appearances over time.
One thing that honestly I think can be applied to a lot of the pre-release impressions we're getting is that we're comparing characters and races who are brand new, with those we've spent 3 core games and 10 years with.
When ME1 released, turians were all male, had only a handful of facial marking variations, and were far easier to tell apart by their armor than their actual faces.

As we know that there will be some kind of 'face sharing' mechanism, I'm sure some artistic bright spark will make a close-as-dammit copy of the Ryder's faces using the CC, which can be shared and then slightly adjusted. Surely? Almost certainly. Despite our companions having hand created faces in Dragon Age Inquisition, you can get incredibly close to them in the CC given how detailed it is. If MEA's is as good or even better, I'd give it a day before we see some 99% accurate default Ryder recreations.

It's kinda amazing how much misunderstanding there is of how the default faces tend to work in BioWare games.
Faces like Maleshep and the Ryders are unique models that can't be edited because they have their own geometry - they're created from the ground up like a main NPC, such as The Illusive Man. They're simply incompatible with the character creator, because they were created with tools we as players don't have access to. This is old news dating back to the ME1 days - it's purely a technical issue.
But not being a face scan doesn't mean the face is just a CC job - ME3 Femshep and both Hawkes also have custom geometry because they were hand designed to be the game's poster faces, despite not being specifically scanned from or based on any one person. They even had custom hairstyles that weren't from the character creator.
Dragon Age Inquisition's defaults were all created purely with the character creator, hence being able to edit them.
My assumption with Andromeda's other presets from what they said is that they will be editable, but were simply based on real people for reference, no different to trying to create a celebrity or yourself in the CC - having every single one being scanned or at least painstakingly created with their own geometry seems like an unneccesary waste of resources, and would mean they're all uneditable.

OMG it's 60fps glory, probably taken from the PC version. Looks awesome. Also, check out this fucking cool armor here! Definitely ME3's N7 armor. What's interesting is it's on a female Ryder, yet the forearm detailing that was only present on Maleshep in ME3 is there. I remember being irked by it's absence in ME3 itself (as it was there on the ME2 Femshep version) so nice to finally have it rectified, albeit rather unexpectedly
