Yeah, no shade y'all. I actually do think Dorian is a good character (and a gay plot relevant character, take fucking note Mass Effect) and think he deserved a personal mission that reflected that.

...But that's exactly what I'm saying. He IS a good character with important story related plots and themes that have little or nothing to do with being the victim of homophobia. His personal quest did not need to be about him being a victim of homophobia all of a sudden. His father is not like that. He wanted to change him for the sake of his bloodline and having an heir. If you get them to make up, he loves his son no matter what, and apologizes. I know he's not like that. Which is why it was nonsensical and transparent when Dorian suddenly brings it up like that's the issue.

Well, yeah. That's why it was particularly retarded when his personal quest became all about being gay. He'd straight up already explained various reasons of a rift between his parents and him that only incidentally involved being gay. Sure, but its not as if after that quest all he ever talks about is daddy issues this and daddy issues that. The guy talks about other things with the Inquisitor and other companions that don't involve him being gay whatsoever. I dunno, I get why people are annoyed that the first gay male character had a somewhat typical LGBT storyline for their companion quest but Dorian is by no means completely defined by it. What about his mentor relationship with Alexis? What about his desire to reform Tevinter? What about him trying desperately to prove that not all Tevinters are evil? What about his revelation about Chantry being right about magisters being the one's to start the Blight. What about his friendships with Solas, Sera, Iron Bull, Cole, etc. Those are matter to his character as well. ...But that's exactly what I'm saying. He IS a good character with important story related plots and themes that have little or nothing to do with being the victim of homophobia. His personal quest did not need to be about him being a victim of homophobia all of a sudden.

Sorry, I don't get what you mean? I don't get what sticking a well developed gay character (with established thematic and story relevant issues) with a sudden 'YOU HATE ME BECAUSE IM GAY' story has to do with his romance or why it was necessary for that to develop? The revelation has the female Inquisitor saying he was stringing her along, but you can ask him to keep flirting and he still will. They just love each other, but as friends. As for the male, it's the chance to finally make it a real romance. It's pretty sweet and a bonding moment imo. The story was not directly about his being gay, but it added to your own feelings between each other. Female or male. Basically any emotionally charged interaction with his dad could have done that. Have them argue about his progressive beliefs on Tevinter against his dad's conservative views, have them argue about his Dad pressuring him to carry on their mage bloodline with an heir and him trying to change him with blood magic. That all makes sense. It was all previously established in Dorians earlier conversations. His dad having issues specifically with him being gay were not. It was utterly unnecessary and made a good gay character a mouthpiece.

Basically it was an opening for male Inquisitors and for females to stop being strung along. Like Cass' rejection scene. Sera's crudeness worked though when she turns down males, but Dorian is not like that. Sorry, I don't get what you mean? Just wanted to mention that Dorian is also a genius mage and social reformer who desperately wants to save his nation from its self. He's not just a sassy gay man (can those never exist in fiction now?) who constantly talks about his daddy issues and the persecution he faced in Tevinter. Resulting him down to just those traits does the character something of a disservice to him and David Gaider. Well, yeah. That's why it was particularly retarded when his personal quest became all about being gay. He'd straight up already explained various reasons of a rift between his parents and him that only incidentally involved being gay.

And that's why he is a divisive character, even among gay guys. His story is that he is gay, or so I have heard from people. You don't get characters whose stories are "they are straight". No his story is about his father trying to change him with blood magic, so he can marry a woman and keep the line going. Exactly. It's all about the fact that they want their Mage lineage carried on. That's their issue. They want an heir. They're not bothered that he's gay. Dorian just randomly starts going 'THIS IS ABOUT ME LIKING DUDES AND YOU JUST CANT STAND THAT YOU HOMOPHOBE'. Like...no. You've literally explained this yourself. Being gay is just an obstacle to you not giving them an heir, not their actual issue.

Look, I'm sorry, I know I said I'd leave, and I am, buuut... I found something I had to share famalam, just in case it hasn't already. On the Wikipedia page for Andromeda, under Reception, they mention the response to the LGBT romances. It's not much, and I know its Wiki, but this has been getting more and more traction, which really pleases me. I was worried this would just get lost under the animations whining, but it hasn't, its not something that they can turn a blind eye over. I would be more than willing to give the game ago (its loaded up on my PS4) if they do something, anything, to change the balance. Until then I am sticking with my first ever run of Dragon Age: Origins (which I am loving). Bye again. I'm gone now I promise To be honest, the wiki being edited by some disgruntled random to put in the LGBT issue doesn't really mean much at all. In fact, reading it, someone's stuck in a bit about how 'some people found the combat to be tedious' with no citations. Cool, y'all. Your singular unqualified opinion is definitely worthy of being posted on a games official wiki entry. (I also think the combat sucks FYI but I'm not gonna go edit that into the reception section of the wiki page).

I'm reserving final judgment until I actually play, but I thought he'd be amazing based on the fact that the entire dev team was positively fawning over him pre-release, but I kinda don't like what I've heard so far or seen in the couple of cutscenes I watched. We'll see. I would have taken literally any male squadmate. Even Drack, don't care that he's an old grandpa krogan, just give me a m/m squadmate Never trust the dev team's opinions on characters. The DAI one was obsessed with Iron Bull and... eww. They seem to just love whoever is most obnoxious. Just like real life!

OmG scanning spoilers ahead. I just scanned all 6 planets in this one system to find out there were no items to be found in that whole system. Everytime you go to scan a new planet you have to suffer through a short but very nauseating fast movement transition sequence...why BioWare... I was really baffled with this. Girlfriend keeps banging on about anomalies being detected and so I'm scanning all over the planets like :S And I did actually get motion sickness pretty quickly from play in general, which has never happened from a video game before.

I really don't think patching Jaal to change his sexuality is the way to go. It's too late for it not to feel tacked on and it sets a bad precedent. I get the impression we're going to be stuck with these squadmates (and Ryder) for several games, so I think patching Jaal in is the best option. It's not like Dragon Age where they can just do better next time. I'd rather see him as a m/m option in the sequel with a romance custom written for male Ryder somehow explaining why he wasn't available in the first. As to how to make that work, that's the writers job. Honestly, it's a shit sandwich either way.

I had a feeling that most of the complaints about the CC were exaggerated. I have it on good authority that the CC does have some problems but not nearly as horrible as some are making it out to me. From what I saw it's definitely not as bad as people made it out to be, you can make really good lookin Ryder but it's just very limited Hopefully they do release something for it really soon Nobody is claiming that you can't make a good looking character. They're complaining that it's very limited, a huge step down from DA:I's CC and that you can clearly tell which character came from which preset no matter what.

You know how asari are basically monogendered (or what idk what we're calling it I didn't finish reading that discussion), well the angarans are basically sexually attracted to one gender, the opposite gender. It's like this: you're straight, he's straight, everybody's straight. [insert Oprah gif here] Wait, is this some kind of joke I'm not getting or are the Asari CANONICALLY all straight for some reason?

Well, people here probably gonna hate me for this, but IMO Jaal being straight makes sense if you play the game. I finished it (I was playing since 20 of March and sleep little xD)and there is quite a few moments like Jaal hitting on Cora&Peebee, some random angaran ladies talking about Jaal and how he is, his relationship story. Maybe he was never intended to be bi- only devs can confirm it, surely, but it seems very likely to me now. I was a little bugged when I saw post with "how they gonna justify straight Jaal". You don't have to justify someones sexuality =/ I'm really sorry that you guys got less options compared to others and I get that you are sad (believe me I do. When they show Dorian for the first time I was in love with him. It was disappointing that I couldn't romance him, but he ended up being one of favorite companions in DAI).But Gil is cool character, Reyes is even cooler. And to say that Bioware doesn't care about lgtb is just not true- guys there is LOATS of lgtb npc. Turrian pathfinder and his bf, Kallo's lady friend and her wife, Angaran lady talking about being interested in asari, m\m or f\f characters hugging in cantinas- and more. Sure, LI options for m/m could and should be better, but disregard game completely because of it seems unfair. It only 'makes sense' because the writers wrote him like that. They could have just written him to flirt with some male characters too. The writers control every aspect of that character.

Anyone who's seen both can guess how I feel. Off topic but oh my fucking self this startled the crap out of me when I scrolled down and I'm bringing it forward to save myself from the curse.

Incidentally, I liked Zevran's romance, only a bit annoyed, that continuously flirted with every woman in the group... This bother you? The flirting isn't what I mean by oversharing flirting only annoys me when it's with everyone but my PC. Zev at least spread the love around where's Bull pretty much never complimented you unless he was drunk. The oversharing is Zev did I really need to know about that prince you slept with before slitting his throat? Especially considering I'm technically still your target? That's just feels a wee bit too much like foreshadowing. You couldn't have just gave me the damn earring? Ugh this is the thing I hated most about Bull's romance. He seems almost completely disinterested in the Inquisitor but can't stop flirting with Cass...Dorian...the chantry sisters...the Skyhold servants... If he romances Dorian he seems significantly more invested.

I don't know if his lady killer lines mean anything about him being first planned as straight either. Zevran, Anders and Iron Bull on DA's side mostly spoke about random women as well. It really seems like Bioware as well as others gaming studios I'd guess are afraid of having straight-forward gay content in the game, even if it's Bioware. It's alright of Leliana to check out girls, but Zevran just checks out girls as well. I don't think he ever spoke of past-lovers in the game that weren't girls either. So if this is DA's take on bisexual men, well no wonder if ME team that Jaal would be bi while flirting with just girls of the squad. Wasn't the story when he gives you the earring that it belonged to a guy he banged and then murdered? I remember it seeming like the weirdest thing a love interest could give to me as a symbol of our relationship until MacCready gave me a toy his dead wife carved to commemorate him lying to her about his career choices. God, sometimes I forget how creepy Zev's romance was. Like, I don't even mind if they want to do a romance like that but don't make it one that is the only fucking option available for some people. I remember forcing myself through it and feeling legitimately skeeved out, like I could feel him leering at me through the screen. And then Wynne goes 'I feel dirty' at him in a banter :,D Good times. Edit for exact Wynne quote: 'Andraste's grace, what are you thinking about now? No, I don't want to know. I feel dirty. Do not speak to me.' Ok werk.
