I think that this is true in some cases, but not others. For instance, Skyrim was largely forgiven for its glitches, but FO4 has been treated more harshly. I think that one also has to consider whether or not a given game had a massively successful aspect that made up for the technical issues. In the case of Skyrim, it was considered revolutionary and attracted many new gamers to the ES series due to the immense open world combined with the enormous number of quests as well as much improved graphics over its predecessor.
FO4, on the other hand, got lower ratings because it didn't really do anything better than New Vegas besides graphics. The quest options, dialogue and character development were all a step down from the previous FO games, and to add glitches on top of that was taken as a larger issue.
You also have to consider that Bethesda games, whether justified or not, are expected to be glitchy due to the staggering number of quests, variables, freedom and enormous world size. Mass Effect is not known for those things. Gamers perceive it as being more linear, and is generally not known as being open-world previous to MEA. So, gamers expect fewer glitches.
Finally, it may be useful to consider when these games came out. Older Bethesda games like FO3, FONV, and Skyrim all came out 6+ years ago, when gamers had lower standards. As years have passed, we've come to expect higher quality even as world size and game complexity increases.
I think that honestly, glitches are not the primary reason so many reviewers are docking points. The game has taken a tonal shift from previous iterations, has poor character graphics/animations compared to some other current-gen games, and has a lighter tone in terms of dialogue and characterization that is unappealing to some, amongst various other things that any given individual reviewer/player may or may not view as significant issues.
The fact is, the glitches will most likely eventually be patched. I think and hope that reviewers aren't taking more than a point off for the glitches, as the other potential issues are what will have the greater impact on the game's perception and reputation in the long term.
But at any rate, it seems that the majority of players are enjoying the game. I don't think I've seen anyone who played it rate it below a 5 or a 6, and the vast majority seem to be in the 7-9 range.
While i agree that those games the bugs are overlooked my response was to that poster questioning a previous posters statement that
In what universe is this even remotely close to true? Because it sure as fuck ain't this one.
So i mentioned bethesda (oblivion/skyrim both got over 90 both were bugged to hell at launch)
This wasn't a criticism of Bethesda just using them as it was the easiest example since they are most notorious for bugs. Also for the record F4 did not get slandered in reviews it is sitting at 84 on PC. It has less story/poorer characters and was more buggy than MEA
MEA was the target of hate. Yeh the game isn't the best game since slice bread, but it is not by any means worse than the 1000's of games rated higher than it. Or if your going to throw game expectations have increased since then Fallout4 was not released that long ago (1.5 years ago) and it still is not majorly worse than the vast majority of games released in the last 90 days.
For Honour for example while good at what it is is not a better game than MEA especially at launchvslaunch since its MP was broke for almost a week when it is a MP dependant title. No matter which way you look at it MEA is a better all round game.
The criticism of the critics is not that MEA should be getting in the 90's (though neither should zelda be a 97 it has way to many flaws but not getting into that) but it should not be being outscored by poorer games releasing at the same time. I think if it was averaging 8/10 there would be less backlash or if other games where also being underscored in a new lower scoring all round (we can dream for a time when 8/9 means something again).

Nope. So far in terms of gameplay, combat, graphics, and RPG elements, Its the best game in the series. You just have to get past about 10-15 hours before it really starts opening up.
Multiplayer alone makes it a great game. I'm really questioning the reviewers judgement. There are plenty of games that got 9/10s and were more buggy/unpolished than this game
In what universe is this even remotely close to true? Because it sure as fuck ain't this one.
Any bethesda game ever released

it's not 5x5 even though technically it is, but in Sudoku it brings up a HUGE grid instead of an actual 5x5 grid. Any assistance with that?
Okay so ill give you a head start here its really easy when you get the hang of it, Sudoku has 9 symbols let alone 4 or 5 (MEA) so at least the devs went easy on us
So we know from the image below that Exhibit A Will be the same symbol as Exhibit D because there are already 3 symbols in that column meaning only 2 possible left to fill both exhibit A and C. We cant put Exhibit B in Exhibit A because then the same symbol will repeat itself twice on the same row (A+B ). So that leaves us with Exhibit D. Now because we know Exhibit A = D we now also know by process of elimination that C = B.
That head start should be more than enough as this is one of the easiest puzzles as not only can the rows/colums only have 1 of each symbol in them, you have the added help that the + shape in the middle and the 4 other shapes surrounding it also can only have 1 of each symbol thus making this puzzle much easier to narrow down quickly.
Real Sudoku puzzles would make you guess at least 1 or 2 numbers then run with it to see if it creates a problem before backtracking much like a crossword but im shit at both. Anything that doesn't require guessing i can manage though. Think im getting a bit slow in my old age
It may just be the imagery of the actual symbols that are off putting (they are a bit alien) you could try re-branding them as 1-5 or A-D using some paper to show which is which and you would probably find it a lot easier.

Are these puzzles randomly generated? Assuming they're not it can only be a matter of hours until someone posts screenshots of all the answers if they haven't done so already.
i wish they where randomly generated! the replay ability would be brilliant.

Just encase anyone like me hadn't realised this but there is a 500mb update available on origin. I had to click on MEA then click on the settings icon (the gears) and select update.
It's only a small thing but means you can play quicker on release especially for those who have slow internet.

taking a bunch of old people to a new galaxy is a bad idea. Even if everyone was 40 (peak age) that means that vast majority of the initiative would become pretty useless in the field in 20ish years. You'd then have to wait for kids to grow up to carry on the mantle.
The idea of taking 20ish year olds on this kind of mission is that they can carry the torch for a good 30 odd years before the new colonists can take over.
I never wanted to replace everyone on the arks with 40 yearolds or older. But leadership, especially in positions like pathfinder should be more mature, experienced and certainly deep voiced.
Alec was the pathfinder and fits that bill perfectly. Your character is there to learn from the pathfinder. A protegee even then cora was next in line.

Remember Humans can live to about 150 years of age in the Mass Effect universe - you could definitely take 40-year-olds with no problem.
They may live longer yes, but that doesn't mean the ageing process does not kick in. I suppose the idea that most medical conditions have been cured would mean 40+ people could now have kids without facing repercussions though.
If there is lore stating that the ageing process has been slowed down keeping people in their physical peak for longer i'll stand corrected. Judging by Alec's mass wrinkles in his 50-60's i'd say this isn't the case. Even he would be pretty useless by now without SAM in a combat role.

If Andromeda is undone, it'll be because of hate for Bioware/EA, not for the game. The game is great. As with all Bioware games, it has flaws. But aside from some derpy animations and minor gripes, I'm loving the game. I don't get the fixation on small flaws.
This.
If bioware had released the witcher 3 the internet right now would be full of videos of
ZOMG no character creator at all Voice actor is astrocious geralt sounds almost emotionless (hes supposed to) Horse constantly gets stuck cancelling pre-order Combat is shit its more like geralt does ballet
But it isn't made by BioWare so was judged on the gaming experience as a whole and justifiably loved by most and even those who don't like the style acknowledge its a good game.

Ok just to clarify when I say outdated graphics I am referring to the human faces. They are not up to today's standard. But yes the rest of the game is beautiful. But all anyone seems to focus on is the human faces and animations.
True, and they focus on them because they are one of the few flaws people can actually find in the game when watching it. CC being another.
For those that played it on the trial the none saving in critical missions also got overblown (claiming they had to go back and do 30mins+ worth of content) Absolute BS the game auto saves regularly.
MEA has for some reason or another become the 'in thing' to criticise. PewDePie doing an attack video on it pretty much sums up how popular it is now to hate on MEA.
If you believe you can, your right If you believe you can not, your right
except the graphics aren't outdated in fact they are probably the most demanding of any AAA game ive played in a while. The facial animations are slightly outdated yes but not the actual graphical fidelity.
This game will be fine it just has to deal with the ME3 ending I now hate MEA debacle.
To me Mass Effect is the new Nickleback. It will become an internet joke/popular to hate on it even if you have never played it.

The nepotism did stick in my craw. At least by the info I have so far, no way that Ryder should be Pathfinder. Alec was an asshole who failed his duty, he was more important than his kid, and should have let them die. His action imperiled thousands of people. If he couldn't do that, he shouldn't have had his kids on his team. Just terrible.
If he did insist on doing it, he should have chosen Cora as his successor. Ryder's ok, but this is blatant nepotism, when you have a trained and prepared successor.
Except your dad blocks sams ability to explain why he chose you until your ready so there probably is a reason he let you live, and did not choose cora

Im sure the easiest option since ME3 was created for those who just want to get on and play the game without having to choose options and what not from what i can remember. They may have carried this over in this game so go for 2nd lowest difficulty and try that.
It shouldn't be this... I switched down to narrative because I'm lame and get motion sick so I need to ease in to the new combat (and playing on PC with the mouse just controlling the view which is also new for me), and I've been able to make all my choices.
Edit: Just saw the reply. Huh. Maybe MY game is bugged, then? haha
It may be a case of you have to start on narrative? so switching down to it during gameplay has no effect? Devs could probably solve this but i dont use twitter.
If you believe you can, your right If you believe you can not, your right
Did you play on narrative difficulty? maybe it's that
I thought I had it on casual because I didn't want to spend the 10 hours doing the fighting, but the story and exploring. Now I have to start it up and see if I accidentally changed it when I was looking through the settings.
If this is it, I will send you so many hugs!
