At 54 and the pace BW is producing games I'll be lucky to see more than one at this point.
Though I have been wondering...and assuming we resolve the Solas issue in this iteration...what comes next? Isn't the Dread Wolf the apex of antagonists?

Well with big twist in Absolution Meredith lives. Does this also mean that Corypheus isn´t that dead? I guess he was never dead but more looked for a long time in pieces in the fade. I also comment in the Varric thread about this and i think that Corypheus is along with Meredith returning as villians for Dreadwolf. Or as a crazy twist unlikely allies against the Dreadwolf aka Solas.
I guess this promo art has more meaning than we that thought. I haven't seen this before...is it new? Let's see...we have Meredith and Corypheus...Solas with what I'd interpret as the "golden city" (blackened) which would make the two inverted figures magisters that violated the city? The two remaining old gods? That Cory and Meredith are on opposing sides could be a fight evil with evil sort of thing (which would be a nice contrast to Inquisition)...of course we'll get to fight 'em all in the end. That's a fairly tantalizing piece of art.

Given we're going to be in Tevinter they should go for majestic with dark undertones...wealth and beauty underscored by dirty and downtrodden slaves; control and stability in their cities vs. the perpetual war with the Qun in the north; the Magisterium prim and proper in public but engaging in dark rituals involving blood magic behind closed doors...those sorts of things.

Finished it last night...pretty meh. Art style was meh, writing was predictable and therefore meh, cool-factor non-existent. Others have said it but it's far away from Edgerunners and Arcane in terms of quality. Qwydion was the best thing about the show...too bad she's not a companion in DAD...she'd make the party a party. I liked the end reveal too...that was biggest surprise/twist...I wouldn't mind if that were tied into DAD...perhaps something Solas exploits for his own goals.

So, Andor, what did you think? I really liked it. It wasn't fantasy or space opera, but it depicted what life in the Empire was like, from upper class to the lower classes. In other words, it was social sci-fi. Not for everyone, but it kept me intrigued. AFAIK, second and final season is being filmed. I absolutely loved it. Easily the best live action Star Wars show that’s been made so far. Completely agree...the casting, the writing, the visuals were all superb. I found the small, seemingly unconnected people and events that lay the groundwork of the coming rebellion to be really compelling. It's rare that I find something that just fascinates me continuously from start to finish. I also liked the lack of "cuteness" that's become an annoying hallmark of Star Wars...that would have really detracted from what is simply a well thought out serious-minded drama that just happens to be in a SciFi setting.

Bioware romances have become the biggest waste of limited resources and the biggest point of fighting...arguing over fake videogame romances has always been a headscratcher for me. I hope they revert to DA2's playersexual approach so they're maximizing fan satisfaction without sacrificing other more important elements of the game experience. My 2-cents for whatever it's worth. Or better yet, don't do romances at all. Oooh, the riots that would ensue...might be worth it for the entertainment value. But alas, it won't happen. I don't mind romance inclusion, but I loath all the "why can't we have 15 different orientations/preferences included" mentality. It's a resource suck.

Occasionally I do. Far less than playing "good" or neutral characters...but I definitely want the option to play as I feel like playing. Sometimes it's just delicious to play a complete villain.

I have been thinking about this for a while, Andromeda combat was Andromeda but the combat ME1-ME3 was not consistent all threes combat was totally different in each game, pick a combat style that carries over through all games. Feel the same. I think about games like Uncharted that fundamentally remain the same...with basic improvements to gameplay. Bioware wants to reinvent the wheel with every iteration...it's part of the reason development is so long. There's no reason that the follow up to Inquisition should have taken a decade. The gameplay and environments are still pretty good...if they'd leave well enough alone and focus on just story and role-playing we could get these games every few years. Kind of frustrating.

That actually didn't surprise me that much...Japan is a pretty feisty team that frustrates others with excellent well disciplined defense. The Saudi's beating Argentina was much more of a shock. Waiting to watch Uruguay this morning...kind of my adopted team 'cause my Ex is from there.

MEA had the best combat system but the enemies weren't varied enough and were tactically predictable. With the mobility provided it ended up being far too easy and only a few rare encounters were challenging. ME3 was the most fun and well put together system...good enemy variation with many more challenging encounters. ME2 encounters had the best ambience. For me lots of enemy variation with different challenges associated. I don't know if it's even possible but enemies that can "learn"...alter their tactics and attack patterns would be an awesome innovation.

I'm afraid that an increasingly convoluted story resulting from attempting to combine the two galaxies will end up making no sense.
I'm afraid that they'll continue with the trend of gutting story in favor of "exploration..." (snooze).
I'm afraid that people will prejudge the game based on reviewers with clear anti-Bioware agendas instead of thinking for themselves. What am I saying...that's a given.

If you wanted to start with the First Contact War I would suggest a 4 hour miniseries as a way to setup Human infancy in the galactic community then time skip for actual series with Shepard and the start of the Reaper threat. You could use the miniseries to plant some seeds foreshadowing the threat through the study of the Prothean ruins on Mars. That'd be my approach if I were writing the script.

Just started watching the Witcher series, and holy shit this is soooooo much better than the Wheel of Time. That's in part thanks to Amazon trying to cram a novel with a wordcount of around 300K into an 8 episode series with the writers incorporating elements from more than the 1st novel. I think it should have been at least 12 hour + episodes. My hope is season 2 makes a similar leap that the Witcher did from season 1 to 2, (supposedly the episodes are going to be longer) but am doubtful because they broke some critical lore and ruined one of the most, if not most, beloved character in the series (Matrim Cauthon). I found the Wheel of Time season 1 to be a mixed bag...certain aspects I really love and other things I was left scratching my head with the decision making of the writers. So ultimately I have to agree the Witcher is a better series...though I think that's because the shorter source material and less number of POV's to account for make the task easier to bring to audiences. Both are among my top 10 book series with WOT #1.

I've looked around a little and keep coming across the Bobiverse and the Expeditionary Force series but after reading the plot blurbs and some reviews, they don't really appeal to me that much. Am I misjudging there? Would also be grateful for less well known titles if anyone came across something cool that may not have made it on the bestseller lists. So here's the rundown on Expeditionary Force. Overall it's a pretty entertaining series...it's up to 14 books. The author tends to reuse plot devices but does a good job with characters and battle sequences; and has a good understanding of military terminology and doctrine; as well as general politics (which is integral to the overall story. And there's some really great humor. It some weird amalgamation of Independence Day, Futurama, and Black Hawk Down with humans being the lowest of the low in the galactic pecking order. The main character, Joe Bishop, is an Army infantryman who comes across as a bit of a dufus, ends up meeting a super intelligent A.I. in the shape of a beer can that's a complete A-hole. I know, WTF, right? Through circumstance and dependence upon each other they form a friendship...albeit a contentious one. Like I said it's entertaining but it's not going to rank up there with Hyperion or Dune among SciFi literary classics. Also, I'd highly recommend the audiobook if you're tempted because the reader's delivery really brings this series alive and delivers the (deadpan) humor with precision.

So I started and finished Children of Ruin, the sequel to Children of time I wrote about above. I flew through the first 60 to 70% of this book with the excitement of seeing what transpired from the end of the last book which I had struggled with and was a a bit confused with the ending. CAVEAT: I really enjoyed the book, probably a bit more than the first one. I flew through the book because I was really keen to see where it was going to go both character wise and culture wise with the various life forms. However like the first book and like the second (and I am now wondering if it just me) again he agonised over the development of the main characters (in this case the squids) with the occasional leaps and bounds but again the author for me failed to stick the landing with an over simplified everybody gets on scenario. The book concludes but then has this wishy washy epilogue that seems to again make this enormous leap forward to end it at which I was like what the hell. I think and as a non-author/writer I say this only from the perspective of a reader and watcher of Sci-Fi stories, he gets bogged down in the detail at the beginning crafting wonderful characters etc. He then however too often and as he is getting near the end stops the narrative and starts at a point where things have evolved extensively technology and story wise. I find this a bit jarring and unlike with the spiders in the first story with the squids it was hard to relate to the iterations of characters over time. I have no idea whether what I wrote above makes sense but it frustrated me to find I was at the end and a lot of things had happened fairly rapidly and then here's the epilogue with no perspective of who is the subject speaking and again it has taken a huge leap forward. Again I want to reiterate I enjoyed both books and will buy the third one but as with both I kept reading mainly I think to see how it ended. Recently finished listening to the audiobook. I too am looking forward to the 3rd. Excellent and imaginative world building and storytelling. I wish the Mass Effect folks would take cues from such works when building environments...taking in to consideration of how differences in gravity, type of star and proximity of planet its sun, radiation exposure, atmospheric pressure and ratio of gases...and how such would affect the development of biomes and the impact in the development of life...or how intelligent beings "playing at God" with lifeforms can have major unintended consequences. Everything in ME tends to be Earth inspired or barren wastelands...which doesn't make me want to explore.

My feeling is sure, why not? Such things are not geared toward the fanbase anyways. The Witcher, Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time, and the new LOTR's deviate quite a bit from source material but have been successful to one extent or another. Yeah, some of the fans piss and moan but hey, that's what fans do. Movie and TV adaptations are for non-fans that are actually hyped up by the base. Personally I separate myself from the books (or games) and just enjoy (or not) the production as presented. If someone did a Shepard adaptation I'd just view it as their take on events. I'm good with that.

I miss Dog. Merrill did tell an interesting story concerning a dog chasing Fen'Harel. However, no self-respecting Mabari would be seen up in Tevinter. However, what about a Cat? The Archon is said to love cats. I think we should promote Ser Pouncelot. Anders was forced to give him away, so he could easily have jumped aboard a ship bound for Tevinter. We first encounter him again living it up at the Archon's palace. I wouldn't mind a cat, one that roams around the base that at times shows the main character, and possibly other characters petting him/her while making comments or gestures. I would like a tiger that could be a companion like dog was in dao. I would love a cat. I'm a cat guy. It'd be cool if you could customize it's behavior, i.e. hisses at Qunari, has particular fondness for elves, or however.

I have the weirdest relationship with this game. I won't touch it for a couple years then I will play it almost obsessively for 2 months straight but always starting over from scratch and while trying to play all the class stories which means I have 8 characters I alternate between then I eventually burnout and repeat the same process a couple of years later when I get Star Wars hungry but never getting anywhere. That's totally me too. I'm finally running the republic trooper...about halfway through KotFE...which is definitely some of the best story offered in SWTOR...though I haven't played any of the newer expansions. The rinse and repeat combat is what usually does me in...man, I love characters with a stealthing ability to avoid 50% of that crap. Anyways, for now I'm having fun.

Abelas would be a good candidate...we can just say in the event that Morrigan kills him that some link to Mythal or by her grace he survives. His ancient knowledge would be useful for contextual purposes; fulfilling the role of the mentor or wise archetypes. He would be Solas's opposite; but filling much the same role. Maybe his tie to Mythal would make him aware of Solas taking possession of her and he wants revenge. Just spitballing here.

Cool! Now what we really need is Metaalien. Oh you know I'd be creating Turians left and right! Can I get a Tali concept piece? Really awesome too btw.

And that's why I play on PC with a keyboard and mouse...one key for one action.
