who determines what is appealing though? I'm sure BioWare goes into each game with an expectation of who the most popular LI will be, and I think this time it was supposed to be Cora, but I don't think its really panned out the way that they've wanted it to, with the exceptions of Bastilla and Morrigan maybe. well, how about they make the characters that they show in the marketing campaign be exclusively gay? Or the more plot relevant companions be exclusively gay? Well that's not the same thing though. Featured prominently and super plot relevant aren't the same thing. Solas for example did not get an inordiante amount of focus for DA:I's marketing despite being one of the most important character, even before his reveal as the Dread Wolf.

Strange, I never saw that first tweet. What reason could she have to not have Suvi no-hetero Scott? i think chee was worried that people might get upset if suvi pull the no hetero. like she didn't want people to complain that suvi being a lesbian was in their face or something. i think her never talking about her sexuality is a serious miss though people would lose their shit over her being written as such a lesbian romance like they did for Steve and Dorian

I mean, lots of things are intended in characters but either change or don't come to pass. I don't think that's a particularly strong argument. neither is a reddit post from a notoriously bullshit game guide you'll notice I'm not quoting that as proof she was intended to be bi from the get go or anything, I'm just saying that such an impulse seems to have existed at some point, but hey I'm not perfect.

To crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentations of their women, but that's neither here nor there. I seem to recall a tweet from the maiac days just before release were something Suvi's VA said that cast doubt on her status as an exclusively lesbian LI

Suvi was never intended by her writer to be bi or straight. She is the one lesbian central character, so until we have another arguing that she should be something else is a dumb argument. I didn't say she SHOULD be, I'd have liked it if she were an option for Scott, but Das ist Leben What I'm saying is that its a mistake to say that she was originally envisioned as a lesbian and this is the immutable truth of the universe, it seems that at some level there was an impulse to change that, and impulse that ended up not being included.

So if I'm getting it right, Suvi was written from the start to be a lesbian, but somewhere the idea made it in that she should be bi as seen in that guide, in the end she stayed a lesbian at her writer's insistence
that sum it up?

https://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/comments/62x612/mea_spoilers_suvi_used_to_be_straightbi_early/ This is old news and we have discussed it already, because of that I wrote the Sheryl had to fight to not make her bisexual, those shots in the guide are very revealing which it's another proof of how dudebross pandering these devs are and how Sheryl is the fucking hero of lesbian representation. Either way no code, no audios, bi Suvi is not a thing in the game, bi Jaal in other way exist in the code and has audios. alas that we got stuck with Cora over Suvi, a trade I'd make any day

What? That doesn't make sense at all. Especially knowing the history of America. Not the same at all. Why doesn't it make sense? There's not a "history" of homophobia? But fine, let's drop America. If someone says, "This country is already..." The point is that the statement is subtle but don't you think it has racist undertones? not necessarily, xenophobic perhaps, but not racist in either the "other races are inferior" definition or the "racism is a series of power structures that disadvantage people outside of the accepted groups" Both things could very well be true, but you can't tell that from a statement just about ethnic make up, you need additional context to make a determination one way or the other.

But the files are there. That is the same as the Jaal's files being there. Either way, I don't support bi Suvi or Jaal, especially if their writer didn't make them that way. Cora can respect the Asari and not be into them that way. People talk about their mentor or role model, but that doesn't mean they want to sleep with them. The VA herself stated weeks ago that Suvi was always a lesbian. You don't have that confirmation about Jaal from the VA and only have abundance of support from Scott's VA about Jaal m/m romance. So Suvi's VA was actively trolling when she posted about the potential for Suvi being an option for Scott?

Bi Suvi would basically allow a straight male Scott to screw every woman that is available to screw. Hetero males will always get representation, no matter what. That is the reason I have no sympathy for people who want bi Suvi. There are 3 squademate options for you, plus Avela and Keri. Too bad for you if you don't like any of the FIVE options given to you. In DAI, hetero women got 4 options! That was 2 more than everyone else. So I feel like it is only fair that m/m (and f/f) players get the most appealing options next game. who determines what is appealing though? I'm sure BioWare goes into each game with an expectation of who the most popular LI will be, and I think this time it was supposed to be Cora, but I don't think its really panned out the way that they've wanted it to, with the exceptions of Bastilla and Morrigan maybe.

I think the Bloody Baron Quest is fitting in that it can't be resolved in a tidy way. Tamara is driven to a fanatic cult to find the guidance and sense of family she wasn't getting at home, from either of her lousy parents. I've known people like Tamara. People who have made disastrous decisions in adolescence because of a broken family life. Fortunately, the guy she attaches herself to is a decent fellow. You do see some of this layered ambiguity from Bioware, but I experienced most of it in DA:O, not Mass Effect. I think BioWare has been much better at developing a reputation for ambiguous story telling than actually delivering on it.

What is a shitty opinion for you? The meaning of homophobe is changing, similar to other words. Homophobe - "I don't think Bioware should be wasting their time with LGBT content." Non-homophobe, but taking as homophobe - "This character is already straight, I don't think they should change his sexuality." I mean if you support Bi Jaal because of the files found, then you have to support bi Suvi because of the files that were found. But I get why y'all support Bi Jaal over bi Suvi, because m/m were the only ones to not receive a squamate. Bioware hears it and they're working, which is why they've been silent. I'm curious what they have plan. So you're saying if someone said, "America is already predominantly White, I don't think we should change that racial balance." That wouldn't be a subtly racist statement? uhhhhh what?

Nat is the only mod who fulfills my expectatives, but I'm not going to make of this a political forum discussion. congrats, Nat was the mod who defended me

I don't remember him being all of that. I only remember Lady getting mad and saying that she hope they don't fix the m/m. Massbass was voicing his opinion and the people here didn't like it. If he would've said Bioware should get rid of the LGBT content, then of course I wouldn't support that and it was by y'all right to drill him a new one. But other users were definitely saying how you guys aren't never pleased, not MassBass. I mean we can always go back to those pages. Well this thread is filled with LGBT people, so when some of the straight people do come in this thread with different opinions. they are mostly ganged up on and are called homophobe. It doesn't mean they're jerks or homophobic. I don't think all the LGBT people here are mean and unwelcoming, but some do make non-LGBT people not feel welcome, hence why Nat had to make that long post decades ago. Now, if some people do come in here actually being homophobe, then I wouldn't blame you for trying to make this place your safe-haven. At least in this thread, I haven't seen any straight people come in here spewing actually hate against LGBT people. There are several regular straight posters here who are truly allies and very welcome tho and some of us have to have the mods step in and tell people to cool it with the accusations of bigotry, because not agreeing about something =/= not an ally

I read this article this morning and agree 100%. It's not that I hate DA:I or ME:A, because I don't, I just really really want to play a true Bioware game, not some EA slog with the Bioware name slapped on it. In ME:A, I honestly feel like a robot, constantly scanning my journal for pointless tasks to do that have nothing to go with the story whatsoever. In the ME Trilogy, I don't recall ever having to open my journal, quests appeared and were completed organically. If they need to go back to a linear corridor shooter style of play in order to tell a good story, then do it. Going open world has done nothing but diminish the quality of the story IMO. I would argue that focusing on story has done nothing but diminish the quality and range of roleplaying opportunities available to the player. BioWare used to make these great big games with 80+ hours of content. Then they started making console games (KotOR), and voicing the protagonist (ME), and the games got smaller. They told much more focused stories, yes, but they were lesser roleplaying experiences. DAO was the last game in BioWare's old style, and because it launched the Dragon Age franchise there are always going to be these old-school RPG expectations associated with the series. But old-school RPG design is simply incompatible with these tightly-woven narratives. Forced to choose, I'll side with the RPG aspect every time. I'd be perfectly happy to see BioWare never attempt another short linear narrative ever again. I think that DA:I and MEA are both attempts to break out of that linearity in terms of gameplay though. They are trying to provide more of a sandbox for players, but it does not work for a variety of reasons, namely the lack of RP possibilities in filling the worlds with fetch quests and mobs. Or were you referring to the linearity of the story? If so then yes I agree with you. The problem to me seem to be that BioWare wants the best of both world, the open world freedom to define your character ala old school RPG's (or more likely the wildly successful Skyrim) and the tighter linearity that made them a household name with KOTOR and ME. I know you have little nice to say about the latter, but I think the ship has sailed for BioWare.

and from that chart the US alone is as big as Europe, the ME, and Africa put together.....

Guys there are other countries out there, but I doubt Zimbabwe and North Korea are buying a lot of MEA copies There's also this continent called Europe, which might be smaller in landmass than the USA, but also has about double the population. Yeah, if you add up all of Europe, but really we're talking about the more prosperous ones, like Germany, France, and the UK, which added together are still less in population than the US, you can keep throwing in countries but the fact of the matter is that the US dominates video game sales, with a few exceptions such as Japan (though I doubt MEA sells well in the land of the rising sun)

Here's total sales for the trilogy. Looks like PC represents the smallest segment by far. Seeing as EA continues to base their estimates (3m first week) on that data, I don't think digital has made up that huge difference in sales. Plus, Origin sales would be WAY less than Steam sales. Feels good though - sales SHOULD be down based on what was offered. I know that upsets you, buts it's ok - hopefully this means Andromeda 2 will be a lot better. www.vgchartz.com/article/250066/mass-effect-a-sales-history/I like how you completely glance over the fact that there are indeed more countries on this world than the USA to pretend as if you somehow still have a point. Funny man. P.s. the game isn't sold on Steam. Had to throw in a little lie there, didn't you? Cutie. Yeah there's a lot of other countries besides the US, but the US is by far the largest market for video games.
