I'm not able to do any of that with my fanfic. I don't ignore canon events to suit my needs, I work around them. For example, I didn't like the way that the post-Mythal conversation played out, so I wrote a fic to "fix" it, which takes place after that, and essentially is just more conversation.

Thought I'd post my favorite Dorian art of all time. It looks SO much like him, but still with that artist's style, that it's uncanny. I can imagine him looking like this in the morning. xla-hainex on Tumblr

So, do you guys like Dorian's moustache or would he look better without it?

I'm sort of torn because I've seen mods of him without it but with a sort of designer stubble effect and I think it makes him look really hot but then again he always looked sexy and somehow Dorian isn't the same without his moustache. I also imagine the lengths he goes to in order to get it looking just right, which is all part of his character since it is clear from conversations that good grooming matters to him. Plus I think he likes having a moustache as a bit of irony because everyone thinks of Tevinter mages as "moustache twirling villains" and he is a moustache twirling good guy. Basically if it is good enough for Dorian, it is good enough for me.
(The only real reason I would like him not to have it is the bug in the graphics that occasionally makes it rise up his face in some cut scenes, so it looks like he has got a bone through his nose. It really ruined some scenes for me but luckily didn't occur during the episode with his father or the bedroom scenes, thank goodness!)

I am totally into the "Dorian in the Rough" look, and if I could have prevailed on the dated moding tools, I'd have him running around sans moustache, because with that stubble/clear upper lip he is basically the hottest thing that wore pants on Thedas historically, presently and for the foreseeable future. But even his manly stubble crashes Trespasser, so I got used to his grown-up, clean-shaven default look. Also, his in-game cards and pics always have the mustache... how on earth do you even spell the moustache? Anyway, he is so very, very, very handsome.... If you shave Blackwall with the mods, he looks decent. But in Dorian's case, I think he keeps that facial hair thing in order to avoid collective swoons among the population.

Just wanted to pop in to say that I have a huge crush on Dorian I never played as the male Inquisitor, I always play as the female Inquisitor. I have never seen his romance firsthand but he's sweet. I feel like I'm Scout Lace Harding in real life. (she looks like she has a crush on Dorian, too)

I have never seen his romance firsthand but he's sweet. Never regretted it, since getting to know all the companions (save for BW who I did not recruit) that he was the one in this game. His Inquisition romance is very good and the male Inq voice/cc are pleasant. Would recommend.

Works great with Dorian's fireworks. If the British VA does the same style, it's pretty cool.

Yes, the male Brit VA is pretty low key, which is why I like him. He's my favorite Inquisitor voice and just perfect for my guy. As for the mustache, I like Dorian with it. I can't really think of him without it; it's just a part of him for me. I also think the mustache, as well as his grooming, are just a part of his personality. I've even incorporated it into my fanfic. While the "Dorian in the rough" IS super sexy on its own, it's just not Dorian for me. However, I will say that, before meeting him in the game, when I got my first look from the character page, I thought he looked ridiculous. I adore the man.

Lol it's always amusing to see the results of dialogue options that I don't take.
Because my Inquisitor is pretty serious, and is also direct with his feelings, Dorian tends to match him in response (well... minus the "direct with his feelings" bit). I don't get many of the sarcastic remarks that people tend to associate with Dorian. He's still that way, to a degree, but does respond like with like most of the time. For example, when you give him the amulet and he explains why he didn't want you involved, my Inquisitor says, "I did it for you," and Dorian replies, "*sigh* That's the problem," and goes on to explain.

I came to terms with the ambiguity of Dorian's feelings. One of my favorite dialogues of his was a short comment he shares on his first visit to the Fade back when he was starting as a Mage. He talks about meeting the demon of seduction and eating grapes with him. The whole mood of that snippet captures Dorian well, and that's part of his charm, being evasive. Heh, I think my M!Ryder is heading for more of the same "we'll never know" with Peebs/Reyes. Universe, in BioWare's guise, must be paying back for my Mark Shepard, Lord and Commander, and the first rate a-hole, lol.

Universe, in BioWare's guise, must be paying back for my Mark Shepard, Lord and Commander, and the first rate a-hole, lol. I don't think Dorian is ambiguous; that's not what I meant by "well... minus the 'direct with his feelings' bit." To me, the looks on his face and everything he does say is quite clear. He just isn't direct or explicit with his feelings. Look at the post-Adamant scene. He is angry with the Inquisitor for leaving him behind and possibly dying without him and is provoked into that admission. Almost all of Dorian's admission of feelings (in the base game) are provoked in some manner. At the end in that final scene, where everyone is (finally) safe, he's feeling secure and happy and fully trusts the Inquisitor, he says the opposite, "You are dull and I hate you," and "I hope this ends soon," because they're just words. In the end, words don't matter, and he knows the Inquisitor will understand. I don't think Dorian is evasive to be evasive, as part of his charm, I think it's fear and self-protection. He's even this way with a friend Inquisitor when, after the Giselle scene, he says that he abhors confessions, and yet goes on to state how he didn't expect to find a true friend in the South. Feelings are a weakness. Having attachments is a weakness. Not only is there the (Tevinter and Orlesian) mentality that they can be used against you, but it leaves you vulnerable to being hurt by those very people to whom you are attached. He had that hurt and disappointment and betrayal from Alexius and his father. It's not at all surprising to me that he's reluctant to open up and allow himself to trust again. That is why Dorian is such a lovely character to me, and so complicated and layered.

Yes, I have noticed what you are pointing out, and also that he does show really strong feelings in outbursts. But I am also picking up on the mercurial strike he has. His loyalties are never blind, and I like that. Really, for a video-game character and a relationship, this is very realistic and well done. My trouble in the end of the Trespasser stems not from Dorian, because he stays true to what he is, it stems from the professional lapse for the Inquisitor. The relationship would have worked wonderfully for me, if the Inquisitor was left with a clear and important cause in the South. There is a hint of it in the final cutscene, but the ruthless clearing of the stage for the protagonist #4 left Sin in the fifth wheel sort of position, and that does not bode well imo for the romance. (And omg, why did I go so heavy on the numbers in that last sentence?)

I don't see why not. All of the other romances in the other games are together just fine, even if they are physically apart.
Unless you're talking about your own headcanon, then *shrug*.
I for one am delighted that the game is going to be shifting to the North. For the game world, the South has too much baggage with characters and plots; I want to move elsewhere and be rid of most of that. I disbanded the Inquisition, so I have no issues whatsoever about that. Also, there is the romance slide that says the Inquisitor sneaks into Minrathous occasionally to help Dorian out, and they have the crystal, so it's not like they are totally separated. My Inquisitor isn't "happy" with the situation, but he understands.
Speaking in terms of game development, that is just a consequence of the way they decided to do these Dragon Age games. That clearing the way for the next protagonist was bound to happen. But we still don't know what sort of role the Inquisitor will have in the next game, so I'm not ruling anything out. Patrick Weekes has said that he wants to give Solas-mancers closure, and I doubt that can happen in any satisfactory way without the actual Inquisitor present for some scenes. Whether that will be as a Hawke-style cameo, or a dual-protagonist scenario (even for a short time), or something else is anybody's guess.

The other thing to remember is that no matter what you decide to do with the Inquisition, Varric has given you a new base of operations, an estate and a title in Kirkwall. For my elf, as I imagine that for a Vashoth or ex-Carta dwarf, it would be a pretty big deal. Even a younger or mage Trevellyan would benefit from that new status. It puts you much closer to Tevinter and on a major trade route, which I assume accounts for the Inquisitor being rumoured to have been seen "sneaking into Minrathous". I certainly used it as a jump off point for my ex-Inquisitor's further adventures.
I am now reasonably happy that they put him on the side-lines, mostly just contacting Dorian by crystal, as that has given me the freedom to continue his story, whilst the events of DA4 could still be happening in tandem. I put this in spoilers as I keep getting told off for not doing so on other threads.

I decided to start a new Trevelyan because I missed Dorian (and just needed an Andromeda break) and now I keep hitting the wrong button and activating my Stealth when I'm trying to interact with things. I've been ruined.

I already made a ginger rogue Trevelyan, so I'm well on my canon way anyway haha. Also I've done is so many times, I'm pretty sure I've done every permutation at least once besides dumping him/sleeping with him and saying it's not serious.

But how can they "look so much alike" if he's a ginger?! I've always thought that line was amusing for that reason. It works out for me, but on a different Trev I'd imagine it does seem more like his brand of humor. I know someone else whose Trev is very similar to Halward, like so similar he looks more like Halward's son than Dorian does, so that makes it even funnier.

These are of an older Inquisitor who was a mage, but I'm basically using the exact same face for this Trevelyan minus the tattoo. (I tend to play rogue/warrior Trevelyan as good noble boys, and mage one as a more screw you hell-raiser, thus the tattoo.) Yeahhh, no idea how Dorian could see a resemblance. I just assume he's being sardonic about it.
