Fwiw, in the game where I had Templars as allies, it took ages to gain Solas approval to the point where his Fade conversation & Faded for Her quest unlocked.

Dorian experts - I need a reminder:
How far along do I need to be in the romance to get the dance scene? Next time I'm at Skyhold will be the "rumors" convo with Giselle. Didn't take the flirt option after returning from meeting Dad Pavus so no kiss yet.

Didn't take the flirt option after returning from meeting Dad Pavus so no kiss yet. I suppose, if you now in the Winter Palace, Josephine will offer a drink to relaxation after a difficult day, and no dance scene. To starting the romance you need a kiss, and the dialogue option, that you want to start the romance. (My Trevelyan kissed him –Giselle scene–, but doesn't continue the romance, and I got Josephine at the balcony).

Didn't take the flirt option after returning from meeting Dad Pavus so no kiss yet. I was under the impression that with ALL romances you need to be fully locked in for the dance scene. With Dorian, that is after the quarters scene. I usually have it all set before I do Adamant and WEWH. Because of my style of play, I only do some of Hinterlands before arriving at Skyhold, so I have several maps to hang around in if I want to space things out to make it seem like some time has passed for the friendship to marinate and start a romance.

I would add that if you don't take the kiss scene with Giselle then it is still possible to start the romance. You just have to go back to talk with him and will be given the option of wanting to begin a romance (heart icon). You don't get a surprise kiss that way but you do get the messenger from Leliana telling you about his amulet and then it proceeds as normal from there. I would assume that you would need to have done the bedroom scene before the ball in order to get the dance but may be so long as you have done the amulet quest and the romance is still active then it qualifies. However, that is a bit chancy so I'd follow Nightscrawl's advice and make sure you are well and truly locked into the Dorian romance (bedroom scene) before the ball. By bedroom scene I don't mean you have to sleep with him. If you ask to slow things down, that still counts as locking in the romance.

Darn. I was hoping I could do the bedroom scene AFTER the ball but still get the dance while there. Maybe I'll try it that way anyway and see if it works. If not, I can reload (ugh, I hate the ball) and get more Dorian.
I'm still out in the boonies so I've got a while before doing more in the romance. Once back at Skyhold, I'll take the surprise kiss option at the Giselle scene and start the romance there.
I might also do the bedroom/no sex, reload to before, run around doing more stuff, then do the bedroom w/sex, but head-canon both ways still happened.

Actually that is the way I like to imagine it. I was disappointed that slowing it down meant you never get a sex scene with Dorian but that fitted my Lavellan better, so I played through both versions and then head cannoned the sex scene happening a bit further along. I loved the fact I could go back and have a kiss whenever I felt like it and it became something of a ritual that I would get home from work, play a couple of hours before turning in and the last thing I would do in the game would be go back to Skyhold and kiss Dorian goodnight. It was a great way to see me through the long winter months.

I love the surprise kiss. I can just imagine Mother Giselle getting all outraged about it. (It's also really, really sweet. My heart skipped a bit, it did!)

But frankly, I'd really like a repeatable sex scene, too! It all feels too short.

When talking with Dorian at Skyhold, he said a line I don't recall seeing before:
"Come back tonight, then."
This was after Marcus ended the convo with the famous (infamous?) "I should go" line.
Maybe it has to do with the state of the relationship? I did the surprise kiss after the rumors talk and then told him I want to get to know him better. Later I received the amulet quest. I think he made this comment both before and after I asked him about the amulet.

I think I remember it, but I don't remember where I was getting it. In my game it took a long time to have both Dorian's quests to trigger, as I sided with templars. 'Becase, you know, I took the Mage quest on the first character, who was a girl. She did not progress far past it. But as a result my Dorian romance was a very slow burn.

I think the reason I haven't seen it before is because I pretty much rushed through all the content asap.
Edit: pic added
I really wish the lighting in the library (well, ALL of Skyhold actually) was better. I keep hoping Dorian will wander over to one of the torches so I can see his face when we speak.

I like the line: "I think this makes the rumours somewhat true." I think it is amusing that in a way Giselle made the very thing she was concerned about actually happen through interfering. My somewhat shy Lavellan might never have got the courage to provoke that kiss if he hadn't been so incensed at what she said.

Nice. I think all my kisses with Dorian are animated in the mirror way, with Qunari's back on the forefront. edit: and that dialogue with Giselle never made much sense to me for a non-romanced pc.

What I'd like to know is how all the supposed rumors actually started. Inqui also talks with Cass, Leliana, Josephine, Solas (ok, not this game), Varric, Cullen, Cole, and everyone else on a semi-regular basis. Yet, there are only rumors about Dorian. The two Orlesians in the Great Hall gossip about everyone. Did Giselle actually *start* these rumors in an attempt to get everyone incensed about Dorian and force the Inquisitor to do something? If so, well, yep, that totally backfired.

If so, well, yep, that totally backfired. I... thought that was implied with the dialogue. If you take the option, "Oh? I'd like to know what these rumors are, exactly," she backs down when she realizes the Inquisitor isn't taking any of her shit. She doesn't like Dorian because he's Tevinter; she doesn't like that he has the ear of the Inquisitor; she would have been quite happy if Halward had just kidnapped him away (again).

Oh yes, she backs down. It's unfortunate the dialogue options listed don't really reflect what is said (as usual) so there's no way for the Inquisitor to actually get from point A to point B based on the options *shown*. Giselle says she "could not repeat" the rumors and the Inquisitor replies she repeated them before? That line didn't make sense to me logically, and she never answers the question of what the rumors are. You only get that from Dorian. Which reminds me....how did Dorian hear these rumors if he hangs out in the library all the time while Giselle is minding the garden?

Well, he does need to eat, sleep, and move around, so it's just a nice coincidence you find him in the library every time. I think he gets it when people stop talking when they notice him and what not.

Went to meet Ponchard in Val Royeaux. Tried going back to talk to him a second time after agreeing with Dorian to leave him alone but he's no longer interactable. All you get is the WT op instead. Boo. Reloading to intimidate the toad on the spot. Dorian can be miffed all he wants; that guy's not getting the best of me. Still giggle madly at the "He's not my friend...." Inquisitor face.
