Ha! Considering I've written upwards of 740K words in my ongoing series featuring Dorian, I'd say I'm right there with you on being able to talk about him endlessly! Geez. I have numerous smaller fics (over 20), with none over 10k, and one large project I'm slowly working on that is currently at the 30k range. I'm frequently amazed by authors that can churn out 100k+.

Do you have them posted anywhere? What I found writing novel-length stuff is have a decent idea where you're going with the main plotline, have some subplots and know how they tie into the main plot, and let it be as long as it wants to tell everything, but finish writing it. Editing can fix any problems after. And to tie this back into being about Dorian, a classic by Tamarandom:

Do you have them posted anywhere? What I found writing novel-length stuff is have a decent idea where you're going with the main plotline, have some subplots and know how they tie into the main plot, and let it be as long as it wants to tell everything, but finish writing it. Editing can fix any problems after. No, it's not posted anywhere. There are various reasons, but the primary one is that I write my fic for myself to read -- I don't read other people's fanfic. There is really only one fic author whose Inquisitor and Dorian I'm interested in reading, but he's not at the point of actually writing it out (currently working on other projects). As far as plot, I dislike the idea of creating a fully fictional story because I don't like to depart from the events of the game(s). One reason the majority of my fics are so short is that they're meant to be interludes during actual DAI gamplay, showing aspects of the relationship that the game can't show. I can actually read my fic in a certain order so that it flows with the gameplay, and there is nothing in the game itself to contradict what I've written. Because of this, my headcanon for the relationship is fairly involved. I don't deviate from the game. My single "fix fic" where I dealt with the post-Mythal conversation still has that scene intact, but it simply adds a later scene so they can have a greater discussion on it. Even my larger project is more of an AU, but it still closely mirrors actual events, but with certain facts shifted. I don't mind sharing that here. The conceit of that story is based around a thought my Inquisitor actually has: what would it have been like to know Dorian when they were young? He is a Trevelyan warrior, so the struggle for him comes in being a soporati in a society that values magic. We know that's not something Dorian cares about, so I can use that to my advantage in writing. Even so, that story does eventually shift into the DAI timeframe with events more or less intact, but with the difference being that the Inquisitor is actually a Tevinter soporati and meeting Dorian is actually seeing him again after many years. The whole thing is a giant "what if" scenario to examine the relationship through a different lens.

The whole thing is a giant "what if" scenario to examine the relationship through a different lens. The fics in my series that take place during the events of the game are much the same -- I don't go all AU, it's to fill in the gaps the game didn't have the time and word budget to cover. The longest of those is 83K (novelization of Trespasser, with an emphasis again on filling in the gaps, particularly concerning Dorian and Trevelyan's relationship), with the others slightly to significantly shorter. The novels take place after the game, since the whole state of their relationship was left very much up in the air. I'm sure when DA4 comes out they'll become AU, but for the time being they're my extrapolation of events following the conclusion of the game.

I honestly prefer Dorian romancing an elf above all other races. I romanced him once with a human Warrior, but he was an exceptional pretty boy. It's an unwritten rule for me to only pair Dorian with someone as aesthetically pleasing as he is. It breaks my heart to see him with someone ugly. I'm not going to point fingers at anyone in particular though since I am not that much of a jerk.

Eh, people can be attractive in different ways. I think my own Inquisitor is damned good looking, but certainly wouldn't refer to him as "pretty." Tbh, I don't even consider Dorian to be "pretty." His features aren't soft enough for that. I do think he's classically handsome, though. As Dorian says, he pictures his profile in marble. I occasionally use the word "gorgeous," but that is partly colored by emotion, my own as well as my inquisitor's, who thinks the same thing.

pavellaning Please put images in spoiler tags. Since you like this pairing, I'll just know not to click on images from you, but do people the courtesy of allowing them that choice. It's also nice to just reduce visual clutter and page loading times.

I laughed my ass off yesterday when I finished my main storyline Q/Dorian playthrough (I quite liked it btw, probably my second favorite romance so far). Every other Q, homeboy decides after the final battle at Skyhold "No, I've decided to stay after all." This Q, his Amatus? "I'm heading out soon, lots of love!"
(But you know. Without the lots of love bit. 'Cause Dorian.)
Granted he said he'd stay on awhile but it was the first time I'd ever had him decide that yes, he was definitely going soon. I wonder if that triggers for extra feeeeels during a Dorianmancing playthrough?

I wonder if that triggers for extra feeeeels during a Dorianmancing playthrough? There are only two options with Dorian: he stays for two years, or not. However, you should be aware that there is a bit of a bug. If you ask him to stay during the post-Mythal conversation, which triggers him staying that further two years, and then talk to him at the party, the dialogue you get post-game is the one where he says he's going. If you do those same things but do NOT talk to him at the party, you get the correct dialogue. It's a bug that was never fixed, and will likely never be fixed. It also affects your Keep import, so be sure to check that. I never was able to determine if it had an impact on Trespasser, since I don't care for it enough to do a test.

I don't think I asked him to stay though, unless you mean the general what-about-us dialogue? I remember telling him that if he had to go, I would understand, and I know other Inquisitors that he decided to stay for said the same thing. Torrhen's pretty duty-bound so even though he loves Dorian, that ending sorta worked for me anyway. And then well I know in Trespasser they get their weird instant messenger crystal so it'll mostly turn out.

I'm referring to the post-Mythal conversation, where he talks about going back to Tevinter and the Inquisitor has certain options. If in the post-Mythal conversation, you said you understood, then he doesn't remain for those two years. I asked him to stay and he stayed, and said he would remain in the South "for now." He always has that caveat. Whether friend or romance, regardless of the Inquisitor's choice, he never says he will remain permanently.

That really bothered me

A team on Tumblr created an artbook of Dorian images that raised money for charity. David Gaider wrote the forward; the team decided to share it with everyone. Link to Tumblr.

Don't know if this has been brought up or not, but why do you think Dorian wasn't at Varric's Wicked Grace game? At this point in the game, Leliana is too busy with the Inquisition spy networks, and is sadly not as social as she used to be . Cassandra could be rebuilding the Seekers, probably wouldn't approve of even friendly gambling, and definitely wouldn't approve of Blackwall being there. Vivienne wouldn't see the benefit. Not to mention how all three women could be actively trying to become Divine. Solas is good one on one, but never seemed to socialize in groups. But Dorian? He loves fun and competition, is on friendly terms with everyone, and didn't seem to have much else going on. Was his character word budget simply on the block then? Does David Gaider not like card games? A pity, as I would have loved to see his reactions to the stories, the various play styles (Cole and Josephine especially), and Cullen lose so badly .
