But I agreed with the critics that the facial animations were flawed and that the story wasn’t as compelling as it could have been." The facial animations have been largely fixed, and I would say, the story never was Pulitzer material in any ME game. I think the reason why so many people find this story less compelling as others is that they went to great lengths painting Ryder as a douche. You're not allowed - a few instances aside - to identify with a strong character. Ryder always comes over as insecure. Not even respected by their crew.

The point I was making is people were expecting a fourth mass Effect game with a great story off the bat. It's taking the name of a great trilogy like the Mass Effect original or Star Wars original and then seeing Episode I. There was never a way that could live up to that and they made it worse by overhyping this game for 3 years. any game made after Mass Effect 3 would have the same problems of starting a new and haveing to build on to a legacy and of course the bad blood leftover from the awful ending of ME 3. Another was Bioware trying to be CD Projekt Red and not Bioware. Stick to your own formula that has worked and don't veer off course To me, they completely fucked up ME3 already. A great story was the last thing I expected from a new ME game. Judging by my low expectations, Andromeda turned out very well.

The biggest mistake was to ever call this game the fourth Mass effect game. The first trilogy was so groundbreaking and fresh even with the ending in mass effect 3. That there was no way with most of the original staff haveing left after MA 3 and new management being under EA's Direct control like Harbinger taking control of a collector. that this game could have ever lived up to Mass Effect. If anything this game should have been referred as a Mass Effect story as it takes place in the same game universe. But the really has little to do with the first three games. I would have called it Andromeda: A Mass Effect Story. If I were to take the game as a Mass effect game I would say the writing fell flat to the point I did not fell a connection to most of the characters. However, one you dig into the game most of the main characters have a great backstory and there is a ton of potential behind them for future titles and expansions. The big glaring fact is that the Ryder's don't have much of a backstory and are thrown into something they're not ready for. Overall the game to me discounting or ignoring the fact that they wanted to tie this into a direct successor to the mass effect trilogy. Is that this game is a good to great prolog to a story that over time could develop into its own and I think that is what the developers were going for. But ultimately EA had to stick their noses in where they don't belong and had to force the Mass effect into the title to make the marketing department happy. I also know the game needs a lot of fine-tuning and fixes but my point is they should just not let this game die. I still want to see more and I want expansions and sequels. I would even suggest a game mode called classic ME where the story lines in the game come at you in the right order as the go anywhere and start any mission thing with this game relly makes the story fall apart and you miss some of the best writing in the game. playing through the game I realized that some missions were written to take place after other missions had been completed. a classic ME mode would be a way not to get bogged down by all the side crap handed to you from the top of the game and would lock missions that are out of story order and you would get those missions after you finish the prereq missions. The other thing is I have never bought a Mass Effect or Bioware game for multiplayer. In EA World that's what DICE is for. I pay for an RPG with great action and story. The fact that their time is going to multiplayer makes me sick as a fan of Bioware. Instead of adding content to flesh out the game more.

You know, it does seem like there were a lot of people poised to hate this game before it even came out. I saw it on reddit and I saw it here. I never even gave MEA a thought because I didn't think it would be good based on how I felt ME3 changed too much away from what I loved about ME1 though I loved the combat improvements. But around Jan I started seeing a lot of stuff coming out and it looked promising to me. By Feb I was pretty sure I was going to get it. That's when I hit reddit and here and was stunned at how many people just wanted to hate on it. I don't quite understand that. I know people now don't like it with good reason. I understand when they have valid reasons though I think some of them might be using the valid reasons of others to justify their hate. Some probably never even played it. But the hate? It's very bizarre that people spend so much time hating on something. Why not move on to something you enjoy I think. That bolded part? I have been asking myself that same question for months. And you're right, it's like folks were so anxious to be angry about ME:A it was a little surreal. Like I told someone in a previous thread; if you don't like the game, I get that. That whole different strokes for different folks thing. But hating on a game, and the developer, just because of who they are? I don't get that. lt might be because they were let down before. Some of this I think extends back to ME3. I remember a lot of people hated on the idea of a new ME way back then because of how the game ended. Or what the game was. When talk began in forums, from news outlets, and on youtube there was a ton of hate or dislike. Mostly around the idea that they frelled the galaxy so what would they do now and nothing would ever be quite as good. At the time I was disenchanting feeling sad about the ending and didn't really think they could pull it off but kind of hoped they could do something but was concerned it could suck. But there were people sure that it would suck that hated it at the start. I didn't think it would be good and stopped paying attention. When E3 came around when fallout 4 was part of it so was MEA in a small way, keeping it alive. I think they showed some initial mako stuff and armors. I remember thinking how little I cared. Haters were probably all over that, gearing up.

That's not the CEO making that statement, it's the author of the article. You should go back and re-read the article, or do a search on the CEO's statement regarding ME:A during the investors call. He didn't make the statement above.
