Don't understand why Bioware put a stop to it.
Mordin was easily one of the most beloved sidekicks.

Their reasoning was that the salarian squadmate felt to similar to another squadmate from a previous ME game. My guess was that they basically made Mordin 2.0 lol.

I did like Mordin, but actually thought he was a little annoying, talked way too fast for my liking. A bad ass salarian would be good, although he would think Ryder is too much of a wimp to join his group.

Mordin was a beloved character, but being salarian was a very small part of why he was.

Kirahee though. I can't help but do the side objectives for him. It's my moral obligation to do so. His cameo in ME 3 was nice. We need another STG hero.

Mordin's voice actors (there were two) sold their character. Mordin, too me, is the perfect representation of the Salarians. The Krogan grudgingly respect them. Also, as a combat medic, I totally agree with his philosphy: “Lots of ways to help people. Sometimes heal patients; sometimes execute dangerous people. Either way helps.” And he could sing. And he sacrificed himself willingly. The universe wouldn't allow a substitute. It had to be him. Someone else would've gotten it wrong. He's in my top 5, too. #5, to be exact.

Regardless of his race, Mordin was well written. Storyline-wise, you do have Kallo and Suvi. There is also the whole thing with the Salarian Ark missing. Last, Patrick Weekes and David Gaider are no longer on the writing team. Come to think of it, the only squadmate I actually like is Drack. Everyone else is pretty much a cliche piece of cardboard to me.

He's about the only squadmate I care about. I don't even think, they are that badly written. It's more on the lines that they spill their personal beans pretty much in the first conversations on the Tempest. There's little new to learn after that. As for a Salarian squadmate, we only had Mordin in one game. In ME3 he was crucial to curing the genophage, but he wasn't a squadmate as such.

Honestly besides Drack who was still subpar the rest of the crew annoyed me. Where is my Zaeed or Jack?.
Why is everyone so emotional and good natured?.....

Would have liked to have had raeka as a squad member, a double pathfinder team would have rocked. If this game suffers from anything then it's bland character syndrome. Take Reyes, take Sloan even, Raeka. All side characters, but there seems to have gone more love into developing them than went into the actual squad. I mean, do the direct comparison with DAI. There's enigmatic Solas, loudmouthed but sensible Varric. Leiliana, who had grown into something entirely different than she had been in DAO. It's glaringly obvious with the gay character. Dorian vs Gil, who isn't a squadmate in itself but still on your ship. He's the cardboard of cardboards. Dorian's witty and even as a female character you could flirt away with him. Gil on the other hand rubs his being gay into your face at the first opportunity. For him they really seemed to have a checkbox, which they implemented in the most bland way possible. Gay, having a female best friend, wanting to become a parent, introducing you to female best friend for 5 seconds, becoming a parent. Boring is the only word coming to mind.

I think the problem is a pattern - same as in ME1 - you need to get Human romance options Ash-Cora and Kaidan-Liam. So you got two humans. No matter what you must get Asari and Turian. So it leaves not much space left. BiOWare knew how much we love Krogan, so we got Drack. And because this is Andromeda, you have to get a new guide - which is Jaal, same as was Javik in ME3.
Javik was a great addition to some missions in ME3 - Thessia for example. MEA problem is, that you need to take Jaal with you MANY MORE TIMES, if you really wanna learn something about Andromeda, cause he is telling you a lot of stuff. Your call if you wanna miss it, but what about lore then ? So it leaves us only 1 space left.

I can't really argue here, but that's because I've always considered the companions of each DA game to have more substance on average than their Mass Effect counterparts. There's no truly proper equivalent of characters like Morrigan or even Varric (Garrus is basically Diet Varric) or Cassandra or Solas. Dorian is one of my favorite of the lot, and I enjoyed that my F!quisitor could flirt with him playfully and his being gay never got in the way of their playful banter, not unless you actually wanted it to (post-personal quest dialogue). I like Gil fine, and think he's more than whatever Adams ever offered as a character, given his role on the ship, but I feel a lot can be learned from the other side of BioWare's IP's.

We've only had one Salarian squadmate, right? I'm not sure if that can count as putting a stop to it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a non-science Salarian like Jondam Bau or Kirrahe as a squad mate. It'd be cool to see the martial side of Salarian culture.

I didn't understand the whole Liam-Jaal frenemy thing until my second playthrough. Also, Jaal apparently falls in love with Peebee if you don't romance either one of them.

No, I heard one dev said he was too similar to Garrus. I don't see any problem with it, since for some people Drack is just another, slightly different Wrex (just an example). Get that huge stick out of your tush!") and I loved Dorian. Dorian, was just as scared and concerned about Corypheous (sp?) as I did. He was the gay version of Alistair and I loved Alistair. Dorian was a properly, developed character that I cared about gay or straight. I appreciated the writing that went into his character and he is definitely in my top 10 all-time greatest companions. He's there with the best of them and helped literally carry Inquisition through his banter. That's writing. Not "let's bang, okay?"
