I was unable to get kotor 2 running from the old DVD version for my kid on the modern laptop. Not that she'd played it anyway, I think. Still, a bit sad. Hmmm... Did the disk actually load? You should have no issues installing the DVD version of the game on Windows 10. Even the 4CD version works fine.

I have the 4 CD version, the KotOR Collection DVD, and I believe one other hard copy version, in addition to Steam. The Steam version is actually a no-brainer. However, I do not recommend using the Workshop for installing your mods. It makes installing mods properly more difficult than it should be, because you have to configure the TSL Patcher to install to the correct new directory rather than the default. Some patcher mods auto-run, and will need their config altered. I have the Steam version installed, as it does have the Aspyr patch included. Aspyr gifted it to me for owning three different copies of the OG

^^^ It works great with minimal mod installation, and both of those mods have had the DeadlyStreamers attention in great detail, as they got a fair bit of notoriety at release and were contacted by Steam to make it work initially.
It is when you start to install more mods, that it can become problematic.
I do know that many people have been successful installing the Steam version of the exe and the Workshop of TSLRCM, but from there use the TSLPatcher and have it locate the Worshop Override folder. I did this for a while but ran into some issues I created myself working on a mod, and so I have gone old school except for the exe.

You should have no issues installing the DVD version of the game on Windows 10. Even the 4CD version works fine. Oh, I think I actually have the 4 disk version. Anyway, the game crashes at loading, which I vaguely remember as being a thing I overcame in 2013 when I finally reloaded it and played it after my gaming hiatus. But I am just not into fixing it up for my daughter, until I see her actually playing any RPG on her own. I have DA2 running on her laptop just fine, because I play it on it when I travel, and she did not really go anywhere with it. So... yeah, not till she actually wants to play an RPG. She just really used to like Atton when she was younger and I played it, and she played Pazaak with him for hours on end. It's mind boggling that Atton Rand makes an awesome babysitter for little girls....

I own the GoG, Steam and retail versions of both games. The ones I find easier to use is the GoG versions. It allows you to install mods easily. The only somewhat complexity is when you have to choose the game directory for the mod to install correctly. Other than that they both games work great.

Well, this brings back some fond memories.
One thing I recommend is doing a playthrough right up until you leave Peragus on the Ebon Hawke, so if you wish to do another playthrough you can pick up from there instead of having to do all that again.

Oh, Kreia has a unique ability to boost EXP gains when in the party, so if you like power-leveling and thought-provoking dialogue she's a good pick. She's not very nice all that often, so it can be off-putting for some people.
The other nice thing is that you start as a Jedi class (Consular, Sentinel, Guardian) and can later specialize in one of 6 prestige classes.
3 are Lightside, 3 are Darkside, and are analogous to the starting classes.
Jedi Master/Sith Lord (typical of Consular) Jedi Watchman/Sith Assassin (typical of Sentinel) Jedi Weapon Master/Sith Marauder (typical of Guardian)
Even better, you don't have to pick the "matching" prestige. If you want to go Consular->Weapon Master you can.
Plus, you can hold off on picking a prestige if you aren't the alignment you want to be, so there are options to be the kind of force-user you wish to be.

For anybody that's interested both games are going cheap on sale at GOG.com at the moment. Just bought them again.

My only issues with TSL specifically is how the Ultimate Saber Mod conflicts so badly with the Restored Content Mod. I'm currently using a previous RCM build to work around it but there's still a cutscene that hangs indefinitely if I don't use the warp console. I know there's another mod with most of USM's content that doesn't clash with the current RCM, might try that instead on my next playthrough...

I know there's another mod with most of USM's content that doesn't clash with the current RCM, might try that instead on my next playthrough... Well.... The USM has mostly been made irrelevant by the TSLRCM. Also, there are many newer and better saber mods if you just want diversity of hilts. As a guy who spent years bugging cHaInZ.2da about all things KotOR, the last thing I am doing is dissing USM. IN its day, nothing was comparable and it is still a fine mod. I think you might enjoy things more letting it go and trying a newer saber mod for your hilts. My 2c
