Might be because in the current economy, a multi-use PC is easier to justify than a game-only console. *shrug*

PC. I can build a decent PC for only a little bit more than a console, with better graphics and power, and use it to do a thousand things, not just play a limited number of games. It won't get outdated, with judicious upgrades, for a decade, and I can mod to my heart's content. Multiple monitors means I get to watch movies or listen to my own music, check the interwebs, and play games at the same time. Gaming kb and mouse means lots of shortcut keys so that I can play with my hands in comfortable positions. So many good things. Also, don't pay for an overpriced laptop gaming PC. Not worth it unless you LAN a LOT. Desktops are half the price for twice the power. I also play RTS and Turn Based Strategy, and I'm not sure how you could even do those on a console... Well said.

Aside from what I said earlier, there's more than just gaming I do on this computer (video encoding, NAS media server streaming, etc), so a console wouldn't be up to the task hardware wise. Not to mention certain games I have are only available on PC.

Might be because in the current economy, a multi-use PC is easier to justify than a game-only console. *shrug* I keep hearing the price tag for Scorpio is going to be close to $700. If that's the case, consoles just gave the edge back to budget-gaming PCs. I'm seeing some budget-builds now that are going to last quite a few years for less than $700. I don't see how the Scorpio at the price will not push some console owners to considering a PC. Even $500, and you've got a decent 2-3 year lifespan of a computer with a reasonable video card and CPU. This is going to be worth watching.

Yeah, sans monitor, I can build ya a decent PC with a good motherboard, processor, and GPU that'll run Andromeda like a dream, for around 500-700. The new AMDs just came out, and new Intels later this year, which means the current-high-end CPUs will drop in price a bit (usually around $50-100, depending). The just-released AMDs are about 500, but that's top-end. The intel i7 7700 is pretty darn good and goes about 350, mobo for 150, video card for 150-300. Case with decent cooling and fans another 100-200. Wait until fall, and it'll be a bit cheaper. That'll last you a decade and handle anything you throw at it, gamewise, workwise, anythingwise.
(Happened to look all this up just today because I think my mobo is about to go out lol. It's lasted 6 years.)

I'm getting an intel i7 with 1080ti nVidia, liquid-cooled monster. I won't be needing to upgrade that beast for at least three years to stay at Ultra settings on 31" widescreen. It's my gift to myself every three-to-five years. It's time again and I want to see Frostbite in all of its glory at 60fps in Ultra detail. One choice I do love from EA is that BioWare 2.0 adapted to Frostbite. They're whipping it into something it wasn't originally intended to be. That's pretty impressive. Dagna would agree.

Cutting cable in June and just going internet. My wife watches the same garbage on E! every night. I run away. I retreat to the man cave. Anyway, paying $75 a month just for cable and we're watching three channels... is not money well-spent. An antenna will capture the local stations and all of her crap can be watched from Hulu or whatever.

Started on console, migrated to PC. In a very lose sense, I did too. I remember it as if it was yesterday, when my father brought home a console which could be hooked up to TV via aerial connection. It was in 1975. It even had three games. Pong, of course, tennis and a third one I don't really remember.

A few years later, Atari 2600. Then Colecovision. Then Adam. Then Commodore 64. Then it was back to Nintendo. Super Nintendo and then PC gaming again. Deviated for a bit with the original XBox, but stayed with PC rigs. After the XBox, I took the next step and started custom-building. I can't even look at a prebuilt anymore without wanting to immediately upgrade it.

And I watch all my movies and shows on there (while gaming). Currently re-watching Agents of Shield from the beginning. He tends to want to watch them as they air, so we still have Dish. I can wait till they're available to watch on the computer (usually just a few minutes after they air) without commercials or ads.

PC now after all. Using an Xbox controller. Graphics maxed out on a GTX 1070 @1440p. Getting 40-45fps outside. Solid. Game looks gorgeous.
Had but minor glitches at first and no crashes. But now the issues are starting to pile up after about 30h. Nothing major but definitely the least polished AAA game I've played that's not Bethesda.

I could've told projectpatdc this is a PC community before polling. It always has been. Without the poll, though, we'd have missed some good comments. The above is a good point. I've always been a console gamer, since that's what I had access to growing up. That said, any benefits are dwindling quickly. This community makes me consider PC gaming more seriously all the time.

Yeah I was thinking it was generally pc players so I got curious and made a poll. I find PC gamers, no offense, usually hold higher standards and typically enjoy niche gaming. I don't run into too many people that would rather have completely linear games except my few friends who play on pc. They want everything to quick, efficient, and easily accessible, and they usually don't like anything in a game that "pads" the experience. It's nice seeing a different view/preference from so many people. I am curious how many of these die hard Mass Effect PC gamers will try out Destiny 2. If the story is good like they are proposing, I can see it many of the ME fans gravitate towards that game because of the story, lore, and linear level design. Although I think we are getting larger overworlds this time. On the Scorpio, I think Xbox is a little out of touch but i like that they are trying something new. Some will gravitate to it for the specs, but I feel like its the library of games and the community that ultimately sells consoles. Xbox's library of exclusives has been lackluster, and Playstation's community has grown tremendously do to more community based games/online play. I won't leave Playstation solely because of the people I play with. The games are a bonus at this point. Xbox lovers will stay for their community, but its never a good thing when there isn't growth. Xbox needs that growth in sales and consumer base. I don't see it happening. I would rather get build a PC myself in addition to my playstation. Mods intrigue me, and I want to learn how to do them to enhance games.

PC, always. MEA runs almost glitch-free, I have the Cinematic Tools and probably mods later. Even if Frostbite is a pain in the backside to mod, the modding community managed to make mods for DAI. And I can plug in an Xbox controller, which I'm using for the Nomad.

I notice the prices of the individual components you list add up to $750-1000, but the total quoted is $500-700. Also, it doesn't include a cpu cooler, power supply, ram, or any disk storage. I recently built a new rig, so all of that is pretty fresh in my memory. I used fairly high-end components, and the total cost was quite a bit more than what you've stated here. I do sometimes wonder if it's possible to build a capable gaming rig in that $500-700 range. I suppose it depends on what kinds of games you expect to play, eh?

I won't leave Playstation solely because of the people I play with. The games are a bonus at this point. Xbox lovers will stay for their community, but its never a good thing when there isn't growth. Xbox needs that growth in sales and consumer base. I don't see it happening. I would rather get build a PC myself in addition to my playstation. Mods intrigue me, and I want to learn how to do them to enhance games.I'm with you, especially on the bolded stuff.

Well I was pricing with the current top of the line intels, which are 350. A lower cpu that would still run Andromeda amazingly could be around 150. My cpu is 5 or 6 years old and I can still run Andromeda on Ultra. So 150+150+200 (for a good vid card, not the top end ones) is 500. Case (which includes PSU and fans) around 100 or 150. RAM is still pretty cheap, 8-16 for around 50. 1 TB HDD for 50 or a 128 ssd for 70. So I'm over by a bit, 700 or 750 for those parts. Still a better deal than a 700 console And of course, we can go another step down and still run Andromeda like a dream. My rig, other than the new video card, is 5-6 years old, as I mentioned (i7 3770) and everything is set to Ultra.

It's lasted 6 years.) I notice the prices of the individual components you list add up to $750-1000, but the total quoted is $500-700. I set myself a budget of $3500. I'm really, really hoping to come way under budget so I can get a PS4. I'm buying a new monitor, a whole new, liquid-cooled rig (i7, 1080ti video card), 64MB RAM, and the best PSU to accommodate all of that. With prices expected to tumble, I may be hitting the market just at the right time to save some serious money. This rig is going to last me about three years at Ultra settings, 60fps or better on Frostbite. Maybe, three years down the road, I'll need to upgrade the video card, but it all depends on how low I have to go on the settings. I cannot wait. The end of June won't come fast enough.

You can skip the water cooling in my humble opinion. All of my pc's have been air-cooled. I can run Andromeda at 1440p Ultra and keep the card at 53 with just the fans. I also keep my rigs well into obsolescence and none of them have over-heated. Usually the only hardware that breaks is the hard drive. Everything else lasts forever.
