Basic interactivity.
I can actually speak to many meaningless NPCs in those games. Not just get run away from or crouching in fear.
That's an incredibly low bar, but base level of actual conversational interaction with most creatures in the game world is important to me. I am not you, so how we measure this is likely quite different.

That's why they often work quite well when properly spaced. Bethesda makes good worlds. But cities - that is some challenge in world building.

Being a contrarian doesn't make you appear more intelligent y'know, both The Witcher 2 and 3 are excellent, I can understand not liking them but that in no reality makes Cyberpunk 2077 approach good by comparison.

I don't play Asscreed or GTA insertnumber - last urban world I played in was this film noir detective story guy, I think. FO4 isn't really "urban", though they did a good job with the city. I've played the two most recent AC games and GTA V on PC. Throw in RDR2 (not a modern urban setting, but the main city in the game - Saint Denis is large with a lot of people wandering about, day and night). AC is a bit different in intent, you're not 'supposed' to interact with them unless they fill a certain role in allowing you to distract guards or whatever. They all stare at you as you walk past them, and freak out if your horse gets too close, but beyond that, they're puppets on string. GTA V and RDR2 are different. Hell, even add Watch Dogs 2 (haven't played Legion). City NPCs have routines and conversations and tasks and can seem like real people (insofar as the game allows) if you follow one around long enough. CP2077 is not as good at the urban open world as any of those three, in my view. Not even close. I liked the gun play (and I hate guns, in games and in real life), the visuals were stunningly good in select settings, and more than adequate in the rest, but the open world and characters in it were utterly redundant. CDPR may have been making a commentary on the emptiness of modern life and the - seeming - general lack of purpose and authenticity of the modern person, of course.
But I think it's more likely they spent too much time trying to work out how first person perspective sex scenes were going to look.

If not, YMMV. I have several friends, who have similar tastes (mostly) to mine in games, that loved it. Me not so much. I am too storyline oriented, I think, for that sort of a world "without rules" lol. I want my fantasy storyline fed to me by spoon

I've never played Skyrim (nor any Elder Scrolls game). I thought about it when the Special Edition (whatever it was called) was released a few years back, but all the mods everyone said I "NEEDED" looked like too much hard work.

Giant patch of nothingburger. World is still lifeles for now. Back on the shelf until 2022 at least, and definitely time to uninstall. It has been real, and at times fun, but it was never real fun. What a gigantic epic failure this game is, regardless of how much you may or may not like it just look at the destruction it has wrought. Makes the Andromeda debacle seem quite tame really. I wouldn't say it's an epic failure. It didn't live up to expectations for sure, but they were ballooned to high heaven anyway. Don't ride the hype and you might even enjoy the games. I cannot blame hype for this one, a lot of the faults I have been reading are based on what CDPR said and showed about the game prior to its release. They even continued that trend with the comment just a few weeks prior to release with how "great" the console versions were running. If CDPR wasn't so explicit about how the game was going to be then I could see the hype, but the complaints I have seen are based purely on what CDPR told us the game was going to be like. I didn't believe a lot of it, but multiple features of the product that I think were key for a lot of people weren't as advertised.

I considered a LL run, just because some of the videos are pretty hilarious, but good god the volume of modding necessary is daunting and put me off. Hasn't been reinstalled since. I did finish the main path in about 20hrs, and shocked my friends. I have one friend that has a PC that hasn't finished the main quest and has a couple thousand hours in. He is happy being a blacksmith, with wife and kids at his house
It is a game that offers variety, I will give it that. Like you said, too much work for me.

They are releasing it again soon, but with fishing. I find watching people constantly fork out money for this game to be more interesting then the game itself. So the plan is that if you already own the Special Edition of the game you can buy an upgrade to the 10th Anniversary Edition. Now since they are also talking about the new consoles its probably going to be released again on those platforms at a price close to a new game since they are updating the graphical settings for those consoles.

I will push back on this slightly, because I followed this game religiously prior to launch. A lot of the so called "promises" was not anything CD ever actually said. The Dynamic AI was promised, and was the biggest lie of all. They flat out said, before release, that Wall Running was out. Can't claim they lied about that. They flat out said there would be no car customization, no third person, long before release. The multiple apartments was a lie. A lot of the shit people expected was shit CD never talked about. Like GTA style mini games like playing darts, pool or w/e, hanging out with friends GTA style. These things were never promised, yet people act like it was. CD never promised a sci fi GTA, people just assumed it would be because it was an open world game, with a city. A lot of the disappointment, is people's own fault, for assuming a lot of things that were never even discussed.

A lot of the disappointment, is people's own fault, for assuming a lot of things that were never even discussed. Its about where you tread on the internet as well. I never really saw the complaints about the GTA approach, but I tried to stay far away from a lot of things because I had expectations on what the game was going to be like based on how The Witcher 3 launched. The majority of complaints I personally saw and waded into were about the AI, the statements about the console versions and how well they ran, and comments about the areas that were demonstrated by the press not matching the rest of the game. A few were about the areas that were removed from the game, but to me that kind of thing can happen if cuts happen. I will admit I was a little disappointed with the state of the AI, but I didn't believe the statements they were making about it either. It just sounded too complex for what a video game can do. I think for me the biggest issue and why CDPR is near the bottom of developers for me at the moment is that the comments about the console versions just before launch. Combined with the unrelated (and maybe related) DMCA takedown bonanza of people streaming the game because it was shipped to them early by BestBuy or some other retailer. I don't doubt that is what you saw, but I wasn't going too deep into areas so I couldn't comment on that kind of hype.

It's PS2 level programming and an absolute travesty for a game in this era. That basically dooms the game going forward since that's not something developer's ever fix post launch. I'm not sure if that's something they even could fix post launch. Honestly anything after the AI problem is secondary for me. I never expected the god-tier AI they were promising. But I sure as hell expected AI from this decade.

I subscribed to almost ZERO of the hype This explains why I am mostly loving CP 2077 I didn't watch any videos about Cyberpunk 2077. I didn't even read any articles about the game. All I knew was that Keanu Reeves was in the game from the news headlines. I bought the game, played the game, and I was still a bit disappointed. They built a beautiful world and yet there was nothing much to do. It's a good thing that I have the game on PC, so at least there are user-made mods to keep me entertained.
