You don't. I have. I think in all my playthroughs he has survived two of them, one was a romance and the other was an experiment to see him when not in a romance. Nothing against Kaidan, I just felt Ashley's story post-Virmire was better and Kaidan's legacy was better than his post-Virmire story. Plus I always have him with the bomb and her with Kirrahe, and I always go to Kirrahe because it makes sense when they are on my ship. That said, I would have preferred they kept the option to save both. The choice of one or the other was stupid and forced for the sake of drama. Anyway, if you can't resist Kaidan but want to romance Steve you have to either let him die making it easy or muster the willpower to ignore him. 

I'm hopeful that one of the M/M options will be a team member. I'll be glad when we get more info on who our team is. (aside from the little tidbits we got so far)

I did make a new Shepard, but I've only gotten Eden Prime done so far and no new screen shots yet. So have an old one



I don't know when I'll get back to playing it, but I will def try to get some new pics of Kaidan to share. I'd like to get another pt done before MEA, but I'm not hopeful.

Modding in ME1 requires creating the standard FemShep and then using a console command to change the gender.  People refer to Shepard as "ma'am".  He even gets called "princess" at one point.  It's amusing, but still annoying.  And Shepard definitely reverts to female for one brief but important moment later on.  That said, the import into ME2 adjusts well, though Kaidan's voice actor did not record certain lines and so will not say them.  If you have captions on you can still read them.  Ditto for ME3, at least until a certain point when BroShep and Kaidan can actually begin to date.

I've both modded and waited until ME3.  Both are rewarding in their own way.  It can be fun to romance Ash in ME1, then kill her, and then end up with Kaidan in ME3.  I choose Ash over Liara so that Liara doesn't go through rejection in ME3.  I did that once, where Liara thought we were together, and she wasn't happy when she found out Shepard was with Kaidan.  That can be avoided by killing a character that has to die.

Sorry, man.  I think I'd already had a full playthrough before I ever found the old BSN boards earlier in the year.  Sometimes I forget to censor myself.  That being said, don't read the "What did you do today in Mass Effect?"  My posts are explicit about what my Shepard has been doing.  Even the people who are far less verbose than me will spoil things.

Love romancing Cullen in DAI.  Used a mod for that but it was worth it.  I like his romance more than Dorian's or Iron Bull's.  It's funny that BioWare doesn't understand that a lot of gay guys would far prefer Alistair and Cullen over some other choices.  Fortunately, ME3 had good options, a trend I hope that continues into MEA.

I forget are you playing as male shep? if so most of the romances are easy to avoid as long as you don't go for obviously flirty choices. Jack's is a bit more confusing though. There comes a point early on where you can ask her about 4 different things (one is her tats I believe). If you ask her about more then one of those things you enter into a quasi relationship and have to end things with her. The rest should be fine, though Tali you might have to turn down if you talk to her too much as well-though she doesn't take it too personal.  I don't know the female playthrough as well, but I don't remember there being any standout landmines to dodge.
