Just saying the dinosaur line is not unique to anyone. Kind of like how Jenkins will always be mentioned even though of the group only Kaidan and Shep knew him. IIRC (not to diminish the romance feels) they all say something in response to Shep's origin comment. Been a while since I've brought an LI but more or less I think they're always comforting. Perhaps romance just depends on who speaks. For me, EDI always responds to my spacer Shep's comment about growing up on ships. I guess because, you know, she is a ship.

FemShep only have a referred line for Spacer with Garrus when talking about his family and that's really the extend of his knowledge of Shepard's personal history.
Kaidan does have prior knowledge of Shepard's Mindoir past and they have discussed it several times in ME1. He was also on Eden Prime when it was attacked and his friend was killed. He was stationed on Horizon and he left his family behind on Earth during its invasion, all perpetuated by the Reapers. His father was just killed. So yes, I do think his words does carry more weight, depth and meaning than just an offhand empathy comment by a romanced character.

Just played Shadow Broker and during the visit with Liara on the Normandy she asks Shep what they're fighting for... and I'm reminded of wondering why "See Kaidan again" or something isn't an option? Why not a line about your VS LI if you didn't romance anyone in 2? I don't have an ME1 romance with Kaidan this playthrough, but still. Eh. I'm close to seeing him again in 3 anyway.

Tbh, the amount that Kaidan refers to Ashley is annoying in retrospect because she never mentions him in 3. Not a single time that I know of or can recall. Ashley mentions Kaidan twice during and after "Tuchanka: Bomb". Dialogue in the shuttle: Ashley: You know, Shepard, this reminds me of Virmire... of Kaidan. Shepard: Yeah. I was thinking about him, too. Ashley: It's been a long time. Shepard: A long time. On Normandy (near the memorial wall): Ashley: I just miss Kaidan. Thought I'd stop by and let him know. Shepard: Put in a good word for me. Ashley: I will. UPD: Even thrice. The third time is (cut?) Tali/Ashley banter after the mission.

Does anybody know what exact conditions influence on two possible "paragon" dialogue options for Shepard after Kaidan says following lines: "No bull, Shepard. I wanna follow through with this. It’s tough keeping it separated from duty. But when the mission’s complete, it’ll be different. At least I hope so. Ma’am." On testing I get this: Shepard: That sounds wonderful, Lieutenant. In the meantime, we save the galaxy. Kaidan: Yes, ma’am!
instead of more "meaty" option:
Shepard: That sounds nice. Careful, you’ll distract me from saving the galaxy. Kaidan: It’ll take care of itself one of these days. Or nights. Shepard, you are hard to step away from. We’ll get this done, Commander. The sooner the better.
Hmm, maybe it's after/before Virmire?

It's not hate...it's frustration. Frustration at not being able to say/react the way you want. At being yelled at for taking on a role you (the player and character) have no way to refuse. It would be like everyone getting on your case in DAI for becoming Inquisitor when you really couldn't turn it down, even if you tried. If you don't want to play that role, the only way is to not play the game. But even if you (the player) skip ME2, you (the character) are still imprisoned in ME3 for "joining" Cerberus, while everyone else gets promoted or offered swank positions for helping you. How does THAT make sense?

Shepard: Put in a good word for me. Ashley: I will. I didn't have Ashley for the Tuchanka Bomb mission, but from the video I had seen of it I didn't remember her saying anything about him. Still, sucks it's hidden away in a mission that she might not even be a part of, unlike with Kaidan who talks about her in the hospital. Hm, I don't really know. I think I've seen the second one more often so that might be specific to before Virmire? I tend to hear all of his dialogue before then so the only conversation I get with him after Virmire is about Ashley/Shepard's service history. I think.

We've even already discussed it in this thread. I get it. People had their feelings hurt. I'm not one of them. Kaidan was just as forced to act that way (and I must have a different definition of "yelling") as Shep was, and then not even consider his point of view -- double-standard. I think it's unfair to blame him. edit: I'm not trying to be an asshole here, just, like I said it's tiring.

Egh. When facing Kaidan hate: Keep Calm And Romance Kaidan And so my ME3 journey has begun... Jealous! I have yet to beat my no-romance-til-ME3 playthrough, a lot of side quests in ME2 I have ahead and my Shep is so forever alone! Maybe I will consider this my canon world state, after seeing his ME1 romance is not that special, and actually I really like the from-friends-to-soulmates route. As much I hate the handshake he gives to Shep in ME2 (friends who happen to be men like to hug as well, Bioware ), the is like to loose a limb line is so... well

As much I hate the handshake he gives to Shep in ME2 (friends who happen to be men like to hug as well, Bioware ), the is like to loose a limb line is so... well Yes, after two games I'm ready for some Kaidan! By the way, ME2 side-missions don't actually have to be completed (non-squad-related ones, I mean. The N7 types.) I skipped most of them this time because I wanted to get to 3, but if I'm not in a hurry I'll play them because I do think they're fun, they're just not imperative in regards to 3. The ME1 romance might not seem special in itself but it really adds to/fills out the ME3 continuation -- at least it does for femShep. I don't know how the modded male-Shep import works because as I said in the past I can't mod anything, but without that it still carries the friend-to-lovers relationship well, I think. Just, would've been nice if players had the option to play it another way (without mods.) And, yes, the limb line is totally Perhaps it's no surprise that I felt the same way that one time he died on Virmire. For this Shep, it was fun in my headcanon. Being single in 2 was more a choice. There was a tempting connection with Jack, but it would've been like hoping two anchors could float and Shep knew that. There was a brief moment with Tali that surprised me, and he had a crush on Mordin. But after losing LI Ashley, then the Normandy and crew, feeling hung out to dry by the Alliance, being an undead prisoner to the organization that slaughtered his unit on Akuze among other things, who forced him to to do the "impossible"... he was unapologetically bitter and just focused on the mission even resigning himself to dying during the Suicide Mission so he didn't want to get involved with anyone. He wasn't able to. (Suffice to say, some of the relationships with the squad helped him through the mission as much as he helped them.) But as Jacob says "Things look different when you come back from a suicide mission alive..." So, this Shep is feeling lost in 3. Perhaps Kaidan can help him with that.

SpiritVanguard I'm in a near-completionist playthrough, so the N7 missions are my enemies right now (near because I refuse to do the pyjak hunting mission on Tuchanka). Oh I saw the other day Samara's dialogue that you mentioned about the varren fighting pit, I already liked her character, now even more, this justicar has a heart of gold The imported romance with bro!Shep is pretty nice, the game acknowledge ME1 romance, for example during their discussion on Mars, bro!Shep says something like "Kaidan, you know how I feel about you" after Kaidan line about how in love he was with him, that is why annoys me the two/three lines that were not dubbed (bro!Shep remains silent while the subtitles are on). I LOVED the imported romance (lovers to friends to lovers again), but I think I will love even more the ME3 romance because the immersion will be greater without all the ma'am and lady that my Shep had to endure in ME1 with the modded romance xDD I know that ME3 romance with bro!Shep has less content (the butt scene), but I think I will be pretty satisfied I like the way of thinking of your current Shep, mine is more simple, more like guuuurls this junk is not for ya y'know leave me alone already! Kaidan save me!! XDDDDDDD Now seriously, in love with Kaidan in secret and being a badass in the meantime!

Kaidan: Yes, ma’am! instead of more "meaty" option: Shepard: That sounds nice. Careful, you’ll distract me from saving the galaxy. Kaidan: It’ll take care of itself one of these days. Or nights. Shepard, you are hard to step away from. We’ll get this done, Commander. The sooner the better. Hmm, maybe it's after/before Virmire? I always go here when I need help with Kaidan's dialogue; the work done there must have been exhausting. But even that site is stymied by this discrepancy. The adjoining neutral option differs too, probably for the same reason. It should be possible to test whether Virmire is the reason. I will try to do that, just not sure when.

I don't kill the pyjaks on Eletania because they are just doing their own thing in their home environment. But I always kill the pyjaks on Tuchanka because there, they are vermin stealing food supplies. Plus, you get a discount with Ratch and can get Urz to follow you around after you give him some pyjak meat. ME2 needed more Urz.

Yeah, I know they are hurting the folks living there, by stealing their food but still, I hate having quests that want us to kill what might be a potential pet for Shepard, if the circumstances were different. (Also, I can't figure out how to work that game anyway so I had to give up. My Shepards are lousy shooters).

Well, if you are on PC and using kb/m: use the WASD keys to control the location of the target dot and hit spacebar with your thumb to fire (sometimes I use my right hand to fire instead). If you are using something other than kb/m, I got nothin'. It seems like the perfect mini-game for a joystick though.

Samara... It's... idk embarrassing for me to talk about my characters, so... hide in a tag Thanks. This Shep is fairly worn-down, poor fellow. I think the unrequited love of your Shep is super sweet, and I'm sure you won't be a disappointment. There was definitely some attraction to or maybe a crush on Kaidan in 1, but he wasn't interested... In truth, even if Ashley survived, her and Shep wouldn't have lasted. His reasons for being drawn to her weren't... sustaining. He cared about her but I think more as a sister he never had -- he just didn't realize it at the time. Kaidan in 3 is like an epiphany at the perfect time -- it just makes sense. I think, if it was possible, a relationship with Thane and this Shep in 2 could've been interesting... Or just add more trauma before finally being happy with Kaidan.

Kaidan: Yes, ma’am! instead of more "meaty" option: Shepard: That sounds nice. Careful, you’ll distract me from saving the galaxy. Kaidan: It’ll take care of itself one of these days. Or nights. Shepard, you are hard to step away from. We’ll get this done, Commander. The sooner the better. Hmm, maybe it's after/before Virmire? Pretty sure its always the last conversation you had before the near kiss scene and if you don't talk to Liara at all since somehow she always trigger romance path and Kaidan have a different dialogue set for that.

Trauma is good for narrative and bad for the soul, and good for the tears Somehow I am grateful that Thane wasn't available for bro!Shep because he's a really charming character, I listened the unused dialogue for bro!Shep and is so great, the fact that Shepard would have been his first male lover because of his personality, just wow, it would have been a great romance if this game would have been released in 2017, a pity really. Like you said, Kaidan would be the perfect catharsis after Thane's death :3 Is your current Shep a female or a male? I recall that you mentioned how he/she was interested in Jack, but I don't know if that is headcanon XD Oh, about Jack, it annoys me how she explicitly said about having boyfriends and girlfriends, and yet no romance for Fem!Shep :S

Like you said, Kaidan would be the perfect catharsis after Thane's death :3 I've never heard any of the unused dialogue, that sounds so sweet. I love Thane. I think there was a theory that the LIs for ME2 might've been originally intended to be available for both Shepard's similar to DA2 since there is unused dialogue. As controversial as that can be, I can't help but think it's a bit of a missed opportunity. At the very least they could've had male/female bi choices (other than just Kelly/Liara ) rather than just all straight. But, as it is, can't change the past... Current Shepard is a male. It was headcanon, but I did also get stuck in Jack's romance dialogue... I didn't flirt but didn't shut her down either, and I didn't think the rejection would sound so damn harsh (even if it did actually kind of fit) so I ended up just not talking to her for the rest of the game. Idk, I didn't think it was strange for Jack to be unavailable at the time, because she more or less says she's not interested in having relationships with women -- granted, isn't really keen on a relationships with anyone, but she mentions something along that thought if you talk to her enough as femShep.
