Its just propaganda, don't fall for it. Liara is liked because she blindly supports Shepard and only gets mad if you cheat on her. They try to make her the perfect blue waifu, but she's not. But she does much worse things. She is also shoved down your throat like nobody's business. I think she might be the one squadmate you are forced to take on missions the most. And loyalty missions don't count since they are exclusive to that character. And I have a head canon for my broshep where I romance Kasumi after ME3. It annoys me that she comes to my rescue on Citadel DLC and flirts with me again. You are also forced to invite her to the party and she sits next to you in the picture. Yech. The rescue thing is even worse if you are with Jack or something.

And I don't really care what help she contributes. Its just Bioware writing her that way. That she's the one with all the answers or the only one smart enough to come up with them. The one positive thing that I will say, and will have to disagree with you on is her ability as a squadmate. She is actually extremely useful. Especially in ME3 with like 2 second singularity cool downs.

But again, I never take her once in ME1 or ME3 unless the game forces me. I can beat both games fine without her. I tend to play Platinum on MP so the story mode is kind of a joke because Shepard can solo everything themselves. She is definitely not needed if your Shepard is an adept though.
