I absolutely love the series, so I can’t wait to get my hands on 5. Loved 2 and 4, enjoyed 1, never played 3, just because I never really dug the vibe or the edgy dickriders who wouldn’t shut the fuck up about it.

So have they eased up at all on the random wild animal attacks and hostage rescues that popped up every 15 seconds in FC4?

I wish there was a way to permanently clean areas from enemy presence.

Ah found the thread! So I've played 3, Blood Dragon, 4, Primal and now into 5. It's fairly formulaic no brainer potter about and blow shit up and shoot stuff. Just what I need at the moment tbh. The AI is dumb, but the comedy ragdolling and over the top driving like a loon is just as fun as ever. And who needs honey badgers when Turkeys are OP as fuck! The dialogue amongst the NPCs is at times very rude and just bloody hilarious. I'm not that interested in the story yet, and I've only unlocked the dog, but i'm looking forward to unlocking the other specialists. But there is so much to DO that its easy to get distracted and just wander off to another incident. I bought the Gold edition so that I get the DLC, but also looking forward to being able to play FC3 on the PS4. The first part of FC3 is brilliant. I wish'd redo Blood Dragon for the PS4, I had such fun in that!!! I haven't tried the Arcade thing yet but it looks like it could be fun. Only problem I've had is with the vehicles. The R2 to accelerate isn't working (but its good you have the option to change the controller layout for each mode) so I'm not sure if its a bug, or an issue with the R3 trigger (I've already replaced it once); except it works fine for shooting so I don't know. As for concerns people have: I think there is less grind for stuff for crafting, and there is shitloads of ammo, cash and weapons just lying around. possibly too much. I can't remember what difficulty I selected, if I did at all, but it seems very easy atm For levelling up skills, its all challenge based and they are dead easy (e.g. 100 kills; two turkeys skinned etc): although I still haven't got the foggiest how to fish properly, despite on-screen instructions. (this is probably a nice mini-game actually) Hostage situations and convoy-type incidences are common, but it's fine to ignore them.

So is 5 worth actually buying? I suggest checking up gameplay on Twitch or YT and decide whether you like it or not? I've looked up a few reviews for FC5 and they were gushing about how good it is but I know I'm not getting it just by watching some gameplay, some bits here and there on the story, on Twitch.

So is 5 worth actually buying? Yes. Best Far Cry Game in a while, i'm sorry this was really good. And man... That was one of the most well-seeded, bleakest endings I have seen in a while. Fucking brilliant.

^ I kind of expect that excellent rating from you. I'm just goofing. I'm interested to hear some discussion on the story / ending from those have played the game. P.S. I'm seeing different reactions to the endings, mostly critique and negative comments on the story. I watched the cutscenes of the game, still a thumbs down from my end.

I'm planning an editorial on this all, the original idea was to discuss the conservative slant of the game and how it is subtle subtext to the differences in the us political yet how we all come together against fanaticism. But I may have to alter that focus a bit after tonight. Regardless I think this was a damn good game.

A lot of people are talking about it. Many seem to have disliked it. Personally I wasn't too bothered. The Far cry series aways had bleak endings ever since the second game. You either die of malaria or explode yoursef. In the third, Jaison either leave the island mind fucked by all the killing he had to do, or dies doing a crazy impregnation ritual. Then in four, regardless of who you choose, Kyrat is inherited by a tyrant, that you yourself puts in charge. I think the most annoying part is how Joseph is the only villain in the series you can't kill, despite being pretty much the most evil of them all. The guy even murdered children for crying out loud.
Personally, I think he set the nukes. There was no war, no holocaust, nothing. Because it makes way more sense for the cultists to detonate the bombs.
A) If there was a war, rural america would likely be the last place to get nuked. When you go to war you attack high profile targers. Like industrial cities and big metropolis. It makes no sense to toss a bunch of nukes in the middle of nowhere. B ) Nothing happens in the walk away ending. You drive off, and everything is fine. Again, implying that Joseph was the one in control of the bombs. C) When you get trapped in his bunker, the damned place looks like a nuclear silo. That can't be just a coincidence.

There is talk however, that there is indication that other countries were getting bombed if players listen to the radio. However, it seems to me the cult is controlling the radio waves? Who can say what people are hearing is true? How can the player verify it with an outside source if there's no way to contact anyone outside the county? Additionally, the marshal couldn't have walked into his HQ office and tell a clerk; hey, typed up the arrest papers for father crazy, and then left without telling anyone. No way no one outside the county was not aware there's a problem there. When he failed to report in, was the Federal Agency supposed to pretend he didn't exist? The bunker doesn't look like a nuclear silo to me.

Alright didn't play the game, I probably won't given I have looked at the prevalent information now. It in my eye suffers from too much of the "Spec Ops The Line" sickness. A game of self depreciating moralization.
A game that buys into it's own bullshit and expects you to as well to enjoy it.
But that's not enjoyable to me. Also like spec ops it's plot loses the moral high ground six seconds in and like spec ops it just keeps whining despite it.
... I'm glad they included Hurk though.
Good call back.

Doesn't it look like the place one would store missiles and other WMDs?

People already finished the game? Damn is really that short or did you skip a lot of quests? It was a solid 25 hours for me, and I admit I did skip on several quests, mostly because I found out you can get a lot of money grinding them after you free each region in the game. Also because I am doing a writing project on it now, next time around i'm taking my time through it all.

Not to mention the radio host himself said Montana's area should be safe. That is were the game is set. Coupled with the fact that in the intro sequence, it's said that radio and internet signals are being scrambled by the cultists. I'm pretty suspicious, to say the least.

That plus the usual bleak ending from Far Cry and i am not going to bother wasting money now since steam version is too expensive. I will either wait for when the game is cheap or a sparrow version (whatever happens first ).

I'm kind of set on the following at this point, as it makes the most narrative sense to me. Id argue that it is chaos theory symbolically. The only way the apocalypse happens as seen in game is with your intervention. Notice how Joseph says the seals keep breaking...it is a very clear biblical reference to the book of revelations of course, but they are accompanied by his apparent "visions" of them coming.
The first seal was trying to arrest him the first time with Whitehorse, we had the three heralds dying, the taking of Dutch's island, and finally the sixth seal to resist him, with the 7th being his defeat.
So in one sense, it can be possible that the bombs only drop in Montana because of our intervention...but that is then going into the realm of coincidence vs faith and inevitability.
We see the hints all over the game of it too...Jacob's more pragmatic view of the end being inevitable is the most striking. Out of all the heralds he was the only one who was not a psychopath, but he was sociopathic and, likely through his PTSD, was looking out for his own survival through all of this. He questions whether Joseph even talks to god, but he is thankful for his help for quelling his own demons and giving him a purpose...if Joseph wasn't a preacher I would suspect he would be another prepper in Hope County, only to an extreme amount.
As to the radio, I noticed that after you destroyed the radio scramblers in Jacob's territory it opened up the radios more than what they were. Plus we had a radio or two that was always playing other music besides the cults propaganda from the reaping.

I'm not one for the cultist type of story; they make me very annoyed and impatient, especially when they start to sprout being the special one, the untouchable one. After watching the first hour opening, I was already deaf to whatever the villain was saying; you're sprouting BS I'm not interested in. And in the crashed helicopter scene, I was A] Good points! B] I wouldn't be surprised Joseph was in control of the bombs. C] I thought they were in Dutch's bunker? Dutch was dead beside them and the place looks familiar. The bunker doesn't look like a nuclear silo to me. I'm not talking about that. The bunker I'm talking about is the one the protagonist is taken to during the middle of the game after getting captured in order to be indoctrinated. I mean, look at the place. Doesn't it look like the place one would store missiles and other WMDs?
Oh that one. yes, it's definitely a missile silo. There're three because I saw silo three on the wall and there's the computer voice when the hatch to the silo was opened. There's no way a cult could gain control unless the silos were defunct so I'd say there were no missiles in there. Mr crazy would have gotten them from elsewhere.

Of course he would have gotten nukes from another place. But nothing would stop them from storing the nukes there. And just so it happens, that in the ending sequence, three nukes detonate in total.
