There have been many types of romantic arcs in Dragon Age; the lovable goof, the hitman with heart of gold, the femme fatale, the hedonist, the "I can't believe someone like you would love someone like me", and so on. But of the plenty of scenarios that the series hasn't done, which would you like to experience? Oh, and just to get some of the obvious one out of the way: - The Gay Knight in Shining Armor -A proper Dwarfmance. -Orientation or even gender flipped versions of previous characters. Morrigan, Cassandra and Cullen seem to be the most popular in this regard. - New ones somewhat based on characters for whom romancing would have been unlikely (Duncan or Loghain) or downright squicky (Bethany or Cole). Any one of these could be interesting if done right. Me personally, I would prefer to go a little further than what has gone before: - A ruthlessly ambitious and pragmatic Companion who honestly sees no reason to change, and would only take a like minded lover. Most importantly, upon solidifying your new empire in the endgame, they stay with you as the ultimate evil power couple. - Alternatively, we could have a dangerous tango with an antagonist throughout the game, redeeming or joining them in the end. Unless the Inquisitor is somewhat playable in DA4, Solas doesn't count. Even then, I would prefer to play this "Dating Catwoman" trope out in the open from the beginning. - Someone who wants to settle down to the quiet life and raise a family. Not another Jill, this one would be fine with adoption . No more quests for fame and fortune, oaths of vengeance, revolutions or grand crusades. Just a nice little happy ending. Should the player agree, it would be reflected in the ending slides. - Basically, anything that subverts the Betty or Veronica dynamic; maybe the prim and proper one is a freak behind closed doors, and the crazy party animal is a virgin this time. - A love triangle where both you or the rival could equally be good for the Love Interest. No heroes or villains, no right or wrong paths, just a realistic and bittersweet tale. - Alternatively, you could join a pre-existing couple in a polyamorous relationship :amirite: . - Someone who already has a child or children, and needs you all to get along. - Someone who is noticeably older, more mature and worldly than the Player Character. This would be acknowledged from the beginning, so again Solas doesn't count . - Someone who has a wise and charismatic soul, but challenges player expectations by being physically scarred and ugly. Maybe a Warden on their Calling or Kal-Sharok Dwarf? - A Spirit that doesn't necessarily need to become "real" for love. This could work as a purely emotional-asexual-demisexual relationship. - On the other hand, a Nature Spirit similar to The Lady of the Forest/Witherfang who switches genders. Any other ideas?

Nice suggestions, Walter Black! - For me personally I like weirdos whose strange behavior isn't just played for laughs or lovable quirks. I guess an example would be Cole and his strange speech pattern or Sera and her weird way of looking at pranks. - Having a mad scientist type like Dagna would be pretty neat as well.

Yes, yes, a 1000x yes to your first two examples. Bonus multiplier if they are combined. A gay dwarf KISA. Give me gay Gorim, dammit!
I'd also very much like to see a soft (or even hard) butch lady for f/f romance at this point. It's crazy that all of the butches are straight. BOOOOOOOOOOO!

A plot-relevant gay (bi) character. And I like, if I can agree with his goals. (I prefer to play as neutral/chaotic good character, and never felt the motivation to play as evil. Asshole, yes, evil not. I like if the LI's similar – I don't believe, that the love conquers everything.) And I don't want a walking stereotype.

The older, uglier guys are the only options you have in Inquisition as a non-elf/human female, Blackwall and Iron Bull. And men challenging your perception of what an attractive man looks like is all of them save Dorian. Someone like Dorian for a female PC would be nice. Plot-important, gorgeous, well-voiced, quick-witted. Aww...
An Asian looking LI would be nice for a change. None since Jade Empire. A wuxia story to go along with it, all the ill-understood Eastern sentimentality you can manage in as romanticized western rendition as it takes, a god-awesome outfit and a sweet fighting style.
Bao-Dur like character, someone who was once doomed along with the PC, always loved the PC who was previously in a station far too high, blew up the world on a wordless nod just because she looked at him, who found his own redemption, and then gives away everything so she could find hers. A haunting story like that, built into the plot would be incredible.
Would not mind a ranger style LI with a bonded companion animal, bird or wolf, outdorsy, low gravelly voice, dual-wielder, like the good old rangers of the DnD games.
In simpler things, just... keep it simple. A good looking, long-haired dark-haired male, no ex, no sisters, no tragic past, high standing in whatever power structures (equaling PC's), plot important, sometimes rivaling, sometimes cooperating with the PC and romance happening during the main storyline of the game and lasting the whole game.
I don't care if it's boring, just want a male LI that is good looking, well-voiced, strong, powerful in his own right and no frills with other relationships in the mix. If his name happens to be Nathaniel Howe, all the better.

Defrosting the ice queen, as a bi or f/f romance. For some reason this trope is always the straight male love interest only. I'm thinking along the lines of like Morrigan or Miranda from ME.

A throne with my gay prince! The thought of two gay kings/queens ruling together Not to burst bubbles, but monarchies are kind of predicated on the idea of right to rule passing hereditarily. So eventually someone would have to bone someone of the opposite sex to produce an heir.

Could work I suppose, would depend on the succession laws of the monarchy some are stricter than others; real world some kingdoms were strictly agnatic (male only) some were agnatic-cognatic (male prefered but women can inherit if there is no clear male heir). Plus, thinking about it, isn't Ferelden an elective monarchy, that is the nobility chooses the king and it just usually passes from parent to child?

You know there is one thing about fiction that is good, and that is that fiction is not reality, big shocking news! It would be interesting how two gay royal rulers would surpass and beat those rules about biological heirs. I'm smelling this is going to turn into a "gays are not important for Andromeda Initiative because they can not have biological children of their own" situation, I'm not willing to stress my fingers discussing some bullshit like that All that I'm saying it's that it would be cool if Thedas would evolve into something new and not a copy/paste of medieval laws, I'm not saying they should reboot these laws but evolve and be something more! I'm all for a struggle for these two gay rulers and how they overcome together that adversity. SO YEAH TWO GAY KINGS GIMME HATERS ON THE LEFT

I suppose, Ferelden was not really an elective monarchy, normally the throne passes from parent to child, but if there where no heir of the royal blood, then election decides the new ruler. I think this happened not once in the world: Antiva always pleased to send an assassin to solve the heir-problems...

SO YEAH TWO GAY KINGS GIMME HATERS ON THE LEFT Sorry if I came off phobic to the idea, it was just the something that occurred to me. Honestly I’m kind of with the Gay/Bi Knight in Shining Armor crowd, as it’s a trope that fits my tastes in men, though maybe not a knight in the occupational sense, but in the personality sense, but I’d take it either way (no, not in the dirty way).

I think this happened not once in the world: Antiva always pleased to send an assassin to solve the heir-problems... So, going off the succession laws of England (just the closest real world analog I can think of), it seems that ultimately Parliament has say over who becomes king/queen. The only qualifiers seem to be 1. Blood relation to the royal family. 2. Religion, must be an Anglican Christian. 3. Cannot have been convicted of treason. There is some technical weirdness regarding “blood relation”, such as it only passes so far (something like only the first 6 children of the reigning monarch matter, and then only first 3 children of everyone but the heir apparent whose line continues indefinitely). In the event that the reigning monarch has no children then their oldest sibling is the heir apparent. In the event they have no sibling it is their nearest (usually paternal) relative. In the event that they don’t have any provable relatives then well... they haven’t planned for that.

I understand why nick got a little defensive about it. It's just unfortunate that it's another example of LGBT posters discussing what they want to see and having someone "just" point out that it doesn't make sense or wouldn't work or some other such stuff. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but it's just exhausting to see it over and over. Thanks for the apology on it. And, yeah, a gay KISA type would be pretty cool, so I'm glad you support that. We've been asking for it for a while, so hopefully it happens this next game. I'd even be fine if we got Tekehu's booty 's human werewolf guy, if if meant I'd have a chance to get swept off my feet by a Knight.

A few things I'm curious about:
no ex No great love that he's still on good terms with, or no past relationships at all? How exactly is this idealized lover supposed to measure up if he doesn't have the emotional experience and maturity that can only come with having been in a previous relationship?
no sisters No sisters? What does that have to with anything ?
no tragic past This is Dragon Age, everyone has a tragic past. Well, Calian didn't, and well all saw how that turned out...
So you are an admirer, then? Nathaniel would be good catch, except that he had a tragic past, had at least one sister he cared a great deal for, lost his high standing, and flirted with psychotic elves .

Anyways sorry for dragging this into the muddy waters that are European royal succession laws.
As for the subject itself, I don’t know, I’d really just like to have the sex be optional.
