I like his hair, it makes a change for a guy to actually have something interesting going on with his barnet in a ME game. Everything else I hate, if I hear him say 'crisis' one more fucking time...just do it Liam. Say it again. I dare you. The actor who does his VA was on a UK tv show called Death in Paradise a few years ago, he played a character called Fidel. It's in the Caribbean so he had that accent and said all his lines in a totally understandable way. So how he ended up doing that super fast London thing, that even I as a Brit find hard to understand, I don't know. Super irritating tho. I liked being able to tell him he was an idiot in his loyalty mission, he stomped off in a huff which was great. I mean seriously, where does he get off thinking that he can meddle in all this stuff and not get called out for it? Giving away the bloody Nexus plans. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How can I court martial you and where's the cell? But it was all good as I could scowl at him until that damn football match. 1. Just because he's English doesn't mean it has to be sodding football and 2. The dialogue options amounted to 'you're great Liam' or 'you're great Liam'. BioWare seemed to have forgotten to add the 'fuck off Liam you meddling twat' line of dialogue. This greatly saddens me. Okay I'm done I just had to rant. Seems mean to go do it in the Liam romance thread, I'm not going to rain on the parade of anyone who loves him.

He acts like a pure paragon Shepard, but with the setting responding in the right way (no impossible level of luck or Deus Ex Machina jumping from every corner, thus things going south really fast and really bad). I actually like him, except those few times when the lack of trust and communication led to some complications (but the power of OP protagonist and friendship saved the day).

I don't see any reason to get rid of Liam. Instead, I'd like to see him mature into a less judgy and goofy person. But, really, why do we have to like them all? Say I'm at work. I have a number of co-workers. I don't like them all. That doesn't mean they get fired.

That and he keeps calling Ryder Paffinder. Who is this?? That would be the glorious London accent. It's legit as far as I can tell....I am a Northerner tho so don't quote me on it. That's how I took it. I'm from New York but that doesn't mean I never watched British TV.

I liked everyone on the squad personally. People find Cora boring because she's bland. They find Peebee annoying because she's not.
I don't think people know what they want in their characters.

Liam is the worst character I've ever met in BioWare games. He's simply an idiot, I thought that Cora is boring and stupid but then Liam showed up. I don't understand why we don't have option to throw him out of the airlock. I hate that every companion in Mass Effect games is forced to be your best friend no matter what, I thougth that it will change in Andromeda, but no. If there ever will be MEA2 I don't want him to be there. Liam's bland, but he's not out of the airlock bland. I watched one video where the author commented on the waving scene right at the start of the game: "Hi, I'm the human squad mate, you never use after the first mission". I tend to agree. But with the exception of Drack and to a certain degree Peebee, everyone's bland on this ship. Gil, in my opinion, takes the cake of blandness. He's not a companion as such, but I find myself avoiding any conversation if at all possible. There's never been another Bioware character triggering the yawn impulse nearly as much. Gil's content is more uneven than Liam's in my books. He goes from interesting (to me) threads about his workaholism, midnight poetry slams and being really aggressive about having his work done his way (the right way) to his biological clock convos that are realistic, but for most people it's a very short intense period which they resolve one way or another, so the chances the theme resonates with a lot of folks are slim, and darn it, it is very, very, very boring when it's not about you. Liam's struggles to find wisdom and dealing with aftermass of a MOF are more interesting to me. Of the two, I'd let Gil go, and would see Liam grow.

I don't think people know what they want in their characters. that's true to a degree. People generally are more aware of what they don't want than what they want. as in: " i don't like my job" " well what would you like to do" " i dunno, but not that " . Also it may be we want so many things we can't commit to one at the expense of the others. teehee. I agree with most opinions about Liam , i find his main redeeming quality is that he's very energetic. Sort of like Jason in True Blood , well meaning, strong but puts his foot in it every time.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I for one would like characters on the same level as in DAI. Not a single one of them bored me. Not even on my third playthrough. Going by these standards, the Tempest crew falls flat on their faces. I can nail it down even further. None of the DAI companions spills their secrets within the first few hours. There's secrets surrounding everyone of them, showing a different aspect of their personalities. In MEA only Drack really rises up to that kind of challenge. After you really grow on him.

I feel the same about Liam as what I felt about Del in Gears of War 4. Bland, boring, and not humorous. Its a damn shame they can't make a descent black character.

I had high hopes for Liam since he instructed us on weapons and was the first squadmate.
Jacob and Kaidan were likable despite being quiet people. Liam on the other hand is an idiot
I wanted to smack him out of the airlock when he goes on his fruity airhead idealistic rant.

Some of what he said was a bit odd (still not figured out what on earth he was getting up to with Jaal, and I don't think I want to), but how he said it was natural enough that I didn't conciously notice anything odd about the way he talked. It would've been more fun to have a character with a strong Geordie accent, then see what people on here had to say!

Yeah it's hard to deny that DAI's companions have a much stronger presence overall, and more meaningful content, but as I've said a few times before, DA generally had the upper hand on Mass Effect when it came to companions.

To me this game felt like the DAI deep roads dlc: characters are bland, focus on gameplay, simple no divergent storyline, little to no character roleplay options, etc.
Perhaps being made by the same devs explains why it is like this. Difference is MEA took 5 years to make.

I didn't like Liam, but it was more about what he said and did vs how he said it(accent).
I still believe one main issue with the characters in MEA is the lack of them. The game seemed to double down on combat, and the fact that they gave voice to so many random chars (the number 1200 sticks in my mind). ME2 had 10 companions, plus chars like the doc, joker, kelly, etc. MEA only gives you 6. If you dislike, (or just think they are ok) 4 of them, MEA becomes pretty limited. ME2 still gave you 6 good options. I would rather have a few more companions, and skip being able to have a brief, meaningless dialog with 600 random settlers on Eos, or Voeld, or wherever.

Pretty much sums up my own feelings. I don't know who's behind the character writing, but they obviously weren't up to meet the standards of previous games. It's certainly not in the looks of Liam or his accent. I was determined to like him because he looks nice. But talking to him bored me to bits. Which is the case with too many characters in this game. Which also is a shame, since the characters always were Biowares forte.

I actually like Liam's look more than Kaidan's or Jacob's, and I don't have a problem with his accent, though being related to people who have the exact same thing I guess that's a different story. The only thing that bothers me is imagining him managing to get all that hair into his helmet.

The difference being that other characters made up for that. Not so much with ME1 and it's rather limited crew where I only really liked Wrex and Garrus, but with ME2 that featured a very interesting selection. Especially if you count the DLC characters of Massani and Kasumi. I even get the feeling they tried to appeal to Kasumi fans when creating Peebee.

I'm not sure they were aiming for a Kasumi type with Peebee, though honestly I'm not sure I can really peg who they were really going for there. She's not really like Sera, and is a way different character from Liara despite sharing that whole studying ancient shit with obsessive resolve.

And it's considered one of the cardinal sins in writing. If there's nothing left to explore, why continue reading - or in this case - talking to the companion?

...Plus the silly haircut and how he doesn't make any damn sense most of the time. I don't know how the artists got him so wrong in-game. In real life he's a good looking guy: As far as his personality...yeah it sucks that they made him so bland and goofy. The only other black character in the series was Jacob and he was just bland, minus the goofy. I wish they'd write in a decent black character for once. We're already hated and stereotyped just for being black...now Bioware gives actual reasons to hate black characters. You can see the resemblance here. But still they messed it up. Liam looks like he's high out of his mind. Something about his eyes. And his face looks different than our model here. Like maybe a 2D bus shot him in the face. And of course, that he sounds like he's got marbles in his mouth doesn't help matters. Maybe the VA was eating while recording?
