7 squadmates rumor

After reading those youtube comments I most certainly expect that if we 1) have a female salarian squadmate, she 2) must be romanceable, and 3) be sexually appealing in some capacity, or 4) they will say sjws, gays, women, and minorities ruined ME by making BW put a ugly female salarian in place of a pretty human, asari, or quarian.

I wonder where the comment -that asari is ugly- with 800 likes went. Actually, found it- was actually "Well, Liara was way hotter" 890 likes, but there are ugly asari comments.

There's more but you get it, right? There is so many negatives about romance quotas, sjws, gays, women, and I always saw ME as kinder to its straight male audience, a game where they at one time declared Shepard is heterosexual, while femShep has a relationship with Liara and in ME2 Kelly Chambers.

She was born with or has developed a incurable medical condition that has made her sterile, unable to produce eggs, or we eat them.

I don't think any leak mentioned exactly this number (Edit: nope, main one actually did, I just went senile), but 7 seems reasonable, enough space for variety, not too much for proper interaction between them.


What an opportunity for team building.

I'd prefer 8-9 squadmates, 7 is on the low side.

In regard to possible female alien squad-mates; Mordin, Legion & Wrex prove you don't always need romance subplots to keep players emotionally and intellectually invested in these characters. Romances more often than not are used as a bit of a crutch and eschewing them in some cases forces the writers to get creative and tends to lead to more interesting and memorable, less predictable encounters for me.

I don't begrudge anybody who wants alien romances like Garrus and Tali having more of them but so often it seems the choice is either romance a character or miss half of their conversations and that sucks. The more squad-mates you have the worse it gets - i.e. you have an entire ship full of characters in ME2 who refuse to talk to you after 3 or so conversations outside of missions leading to an illusion of choice where you end up with less squad-mate dialogue as a result of more romance options.

Personally I'd rather have fewer deeper (mostly human) romance options and more crew interaction like Citadel party and ME3.

Seriously youtube comments are horrible. I no longer check (or leave) them anymore. It's terrible. 

That being said, I agree that ME started by pandering to straight male demografics, but I don't think that's the case anymore. For all I hate a lot of their decision, BW is one of the most inclusive game companies.

On the topic of companions, 7 seems a decent number. What I want is for the crew/ship/main host characters to be expanded, to make them interesting with good missions to flesh them out. Like I actually would have loved to have some kind of mission to help Joker with his family or something (other than to bang a fembot)

I doubt we will have a female Salarian, Turian as a squad member.

In any case, the Word Budget + a dialogue that emphasized a more complex , deeper / organic romance limits the pairings. These
can be with some team members and outside of it.

I lean towards this team:
2 Humans, 1m+1f
1 Asari
1 Krogan
2 Helios, 1m+1f = 2 different species
1 Turian / Salarian, male

In romance, I lean towards this scenario:
There is no Krogan, Salarian or Turian options.  The romanceable species are humans, Asari, Helios.

We may see the option for casual sex, though.

I'm thinking they included any initial squadmates in that "recruit seven distinct crew members" statement, because that would be the PR thing to do.

I wonder how many squadmates they'll dish out through paid DLC....

This better not be the case.

Well, hopefully a lot more diverse than this. Maybe one that can change their sex depending on need. The male/female binary is getting a little played out in a game where there's supposed to be new and interesting alien species in every game. While i enjoyed what was provided in the trilogy, it tended to make the different species more acceptable than alien.

It also seems like, once the temporaries are out of the way and the introductory section is over, the male squadmate is more the straightforward, "stand-up guy" type (Kaidan, Jacob, James), and the female squadmate has a somewhat edgier personality (Ashley, Miranda) or at least a more unique perspective (Liara).

I'd prefer fewer, nine seems like too many to me. More squadmates means less time and resources to devote to each of them individually, and you know one or two of them are going to be the golden children ala Liara, which leaves even less story and character development for the rest. Quality over quantity imo, even if it cuts into the romance options.
