Am I the only one who likes Jacob more than Liam? I don't hate either of them but neither is my favorite. Jacob looks like a bad guy if you romanced him but less so if you didn't. His major problem was that he was a Cerberus apologist, just like Miranda. If I were to extrapolate from what we knew in the game, I'd say that most of the things we knew Cerberus had done were kept under wraps. In ME1, we were told Cerberus was an Alliance black ops group that had RECENTLY gone rogue. It looks bad when your black ops division departs so you keep quiet about it. Beyond that, I suspect Jacob didn't go searching for Cerberus. They probably recruited him, knowing he was dissatisfied with the way the Alliance did things (same as every human colony in the Terminus Systems). They put people like Kelly Chambers in front of him to serve as the face of Cerberus. He was probably told that they could take action without all the red tape. It sounded good so he joined. Maybe he had his suspicions, but he was probably sent on some "feel good" missions and then put on the Lazarus Project. He'd stay because he knew Shepard was a hero and if Shepard would work for them so could he. This proved Cerberus wasn't so bad. But then he, like Miranda, started to peek behind the curtain a bit and see what they were all about, which eventually led to him leaving and trying to protect other defectors. He's not a bad guy but a little naive.

I really like James. He whined a bit in the beginning but immediately shut up after being told to and grew up along the way. He also had the guts to turn down Femshep's shameless sexual advances. And this? F*cking priceless Kinda wish he was romanceable!

Kaidan is one of the best characters in the series IMO. He's got good development and a good set of squadmate skills. I usually save him regardless of male or female Shepard.
Zaeed would be next because he's so useful in combat, I love his battle chatter and his voice is awesome. Wish he had more things to do in ME3 though.
I don't mind Jacob or James. Both are alright. Liam was just annoying.

kaidan is dream hubby material He's sincere, sensible, and he's Canadian (like me! only the Canadian part lol). The face model is very handsome and the voice actor fits the face so well. I just totally made this about looks and attraction but REGARDLESS due to ADDITIONAL qualities he has he will always be my number 1 squadmate

Oh, look. The "boring, beta male" is the most favorite human male squadmate. Shocking. How could that be possible? Probably because Kaidan is actually pretty damn awesome. (Sorry, this came out of a discussion in Kaidan's own thread - I'm a Kaidan fan, if it's not obvious.)

ETA: after playing through ME2 again, my first full replay, I actually thought he wasn't as boring as people say -- I romanced him in the initial PT, which was a mistake (prizeeee), but as a squadmate I liked talking to him more than Liam. He's only just a slight bit more boring than Kaidan and James for me while Liam is hella boring to me. Liam was just such a "kid at heart" in a way that annoys the hell out of me...it felt like babysitting. :/ Not at all....I actually like Jacob more than Liam. Liam is hands down the most boring and dull character in the series. This poll....had me deciding between Zaeed and Jacob, really. James was a very close second, and Kaidan behind that. But Liam....hoo.....no thanks...... Just....very bland.....so I went with Zaeed....and if I could pick two, I'd have also picked Jacob.

Kaidan is such an underrated character that doesn't get the respect he deserves, so it makes me incredibly happy to read all the Kaidan positive posts.

(Sorry, this came out of a discussion in Kaidan's own thread - I'm a Kaidan fan, if it's not obvious.) Bruh, who told you he's a boring beta male? But it was so strange to hear Kaidan be called that because its not true. And to be fair, the competition on this thread makes it a very clear choice. Zaeed is cool as hell, but he doesn't have the development of Kaidan. I'm alright with Jacob, but he doesn't really say much, and Liam acts like a dumb twit half the time. Kaidan should easily win this. I can see why James would annoy some people also. My point was always that he is hated for being a boring human, but most of the loved aliens actually act more human than Kaidan. Plus, they have the same baggage that us boring humans have as well. I just never understood what made him a hated character. Dunno about you, but having this man all the way through to the beam run and then making sure he gets away safely since he's been with me since way in the beginning (like the very first scene of the series) is kind of epic actually. He feels like a true brother to me. He's one of the best squadmates in the series easily. Though I am pleasantly surprised that Kaidan is well liked on this forum at least. The last forum I looked at or Mass Effect was overwhelmingly negative towards Kaidan. And don't worry, the people calling him a boring beta male are probably boring beta males themselves.

Everytime someone calls someone beta unironically as if to genuinely insult them I tend to roll my eyes. But maybe it matters wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy less to me as a gay man. Actually, it's bonus points for me if they're "beta" in the sense that they are kind and caring.

I want to say Liam, because of how funny, ambitious and compassionate his character is, but I also want to say Kaidan but I don't have anything good to say about him like I did with Liam. Maybe it has just been a while since I've played the trilogy.
Personally every human character so far has been quite bland and just very predictable. Not enough there to grasp onto and truly like. That's kind of why the alien characters are so popular. Because their stories and characters have more depth and more intrigue.
GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND MAKE A QUALITY HUMAN SQUAD MATE.
But, uh... that's just my opinion... of course.
I choose Kaidan.

I would go with amdiral Hackett seems like a sturdy good man) As far as the squadmates go, I'd pick James. He doesn't do drama or come to my Shep for reassurances or consolation) He's solid Kaidan will be the second. He feels like a real person. I mean I love all those crazies - Wrex, Garrus, Tali - but they are a bunch of hotheads. It's cool they follow you to the hell and back without a second thought. But it's also nice to see someone with doubts, and a nit more weighted opinions. That Horizon stuff was unpleasant but understandable. And that's why its cool. I like to have Kaidan around to have insanity balanced a bit. Then Zaeed. He could have been that cool sheriff that talks little but gets stuff done. And he kinda was for me.. But his character, as well as Kasumi didnt have much to offer except that one storyline. Its a pity he had to spend most of the game in the recycling center (or whatever) on Normandy just muttering some stuff under his nose from time to time. Jacob - no comment. dont like him at all. Tried too hard to make him that one good man that served Cerberus out of his hearts goodness. and his trust talks... Liam.. hehe. I had hopes for him. But each time he's around I somehow feel like I'm in kindergarten. Even the sane thoughts he has are lost for me in the bunch of vaguely understandable nonsense he is spitting out (and I do use subtitles in my mother tongue )

This isn't even close for me. I like everyone, including Jacob. Liam took time, but he's tolerable. James Vega is the best human male by far, though. He's a good dude and a great teammate. His writing and VA work were both stellar. James is my bro.

Poor Jacob!
James is entertaining and Kaidan's a nice guy and obviously has some conflict with Shepard, which is cool, but for me it's Zaeed for sure - such a hardass and I love that voice. I like that paragon Shepard gets to punch him!
I actually don't mind Jacob - I like the bit where he talks about getting loud on the Citadel. Apparently he ditches your arse if you romance him, but that wasn't an issue for my blokeshep obviously. Rarely took him on missions, mind.
