Can we find an isolated spot with very few andromedans around, then land right by some poor unsuspecting soul whom no one's going to believe and then strut up and down in front of them wearing silly antennas on our heads and making beep beep noises.

I'm quite sure that we can find Alex Jones of the ME:A universe and land somewhere in his nearest vicinity.

Going to be interesting to see how Bioware handles the "we are the alien invaders" concept.
In the end, that's what we are, unless there is an invitation somewhere I don't know about.

Going to be interesting to see how Bioware handles the "we are the alien invaders" concept. Now, now. We're space refugees, not invaders. Though the latter should hopefully be visited anyway since there's bound to be "Columbus" Ryders who want to plant a Milky Wayan flag on "random" yet suprisingly resourceful planets.

<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> By the end of the trilogy, Bio gave us a slew of characters. Look at the spoiler for the "Big Picture". It shows the main, minor and support characters. Also, the bad + DLC ones too. Mass Effect 1 gave us The Asari, Turians, Salarians, Krogans, Quarians, Geth. We know of two already, in MEA. Though the Remnant are gone, the Khet are very much alive and our foes. How many new ones will Ryder encounter, I wonder?

Hmm, one person's refugee is another person's invader. It's hard not to see the arguments on both sides... (which makes it interesting). (what, too soon?)

I present to you the wisdom of Mssrs. Merriam und Webster of dictionary fame. Yeah but which definition are you using. Just because you have the right word don't mean you got the right definition. By your phrasing, i'd assume the first, since this involves the military. A refugee, one who flees…, doesn't use military might to gain safe haven. Well, not normally anyway. Maybe if they're scoundrels, which you can totally role play if that's what you're going for.

I'm not sure to whom you would apply for permission to enter a galaxy. That does make me curious to see if there are instances in the game where we do ask for permission to land, whether some hub city or through planetary protection of some kind.

I too am interested to see how they handle this.
Do we request asylum from the galactic hegemon?
Do we just start invading and occupying whatever planet that suits us?
What about finding a species that is technologically behind us? Do we offer to uplift or protect them from a supposedly hostile stronger Andromedan power in return for sanctuary?
Lots of good scenarios, I hope the writers do well addressing us as the alien invaders.

Well its obvious we leave the MW in some sort of joint venture with at least a few of our current 'allies' but who's to say that any kind of alliance based on the politics of the MW will last when we start facing the problems of being refugees, and homeless, fighing for basic resources beyond a new frontier. We will all obviously be 'incommers' and the level of resources available and the exisiting struggles the locals have had to survive will influence the level of our welcome. If some of the locals are in a fight for their own 'lives' 'territory' etc., (which I think it sounds as if they are) then perhpas we will be able to offer them help in return for litterally sharing their space. If the galaxy adheres even loosly to our understanding of just how many planets in the goldilocks zone (at least for human habitation) there are... well we won't find one on every 'street' corner. And our MW allies have differing needs. The Asari may be much more welcome than the rest of us or more shunned... and perhpas it will be the Krogan who will be seen as the most important new species the locals welcome and value. Our 'alliance' may fall apart not only because of local politics but also the civilisation of the species that come with us, including our own, may fracture... whose to say we don't end up with those who will continue to agree to the rule of the 'appointed' political elite and those who will see this is a fresh start away from all rules - Firefly anyone The situation has endless storylines that are available and I think if they handle it well we will feel like the 'last of our species' fighting for our survival... we could be the spanish 'discovering' the americas or the aztecs leaving their continent before they are obliterated by the invaders and trying to find a home in the already settled and advanced europe of the spanish inquisition.

I believe that what they want to accomplish is a feeling of a pre-Mass Effect 1. Like a first contact, seeing new aliens for the first time ever. Remember that in ME1 our characters supposedly knew how an Asari or Turian looked like (although we as the players didn't). It's one of the reasons about why the game feels like a soft reboot of the franchise. And of course the exploration part that people wanted so badly and was nowhere to be found in ME2 and 3. And ME1 exploration wasn't particularly interesting either. A completely new galaxy, new aliens, and we have no idea what we might encounter around the corner. Those are the basics, I believe. I actually was thinking how the game aims to achieve some of the things people wanted in the past. A prequel for instance (I never wanted a prequel, mind you). By all means this is not a prequel, but has some of that feeling (finding new planets, first contact with new aliens, etc). At the same time they are giving us races we already know like Salarians, Asari, Krogans and Humans (duh). So that ought to be "a nice touch" for people who played previous games. Human centered? It'll work just nice for newcomers, that surely will catch their attention in a game that has "weird" aliens everywhere. That's the impression I have at least. omgomgomg I was one of the people who always kind of wanted a prequel. First Contact War movie. I never saw Andromeda in this light. Now I am even more excited.

Ye, if you think about it, it kind of feels that way. I didn't want a complete game centered on events of the past that we knew the outcome. What I proposed back in the day was a DLC thing that showed the First Contact War and some other events like the Skillyan Blitz (and who knows, maybe watching a young Shepard becoming a legend from someone else eyes...). That way one half of the fanbase that wanted the prequel would have something and the other half may just get inclined to buy if it was just a DLC and not a full price new game. I always wanted them (Bio) to move forward with ME. The idea of going to a new galaxy did cross my mind for a very future game. Definitely not in the "damage control" way they're doing it now, but in a more "organic" kind of way.

That was from that marketing survey, right? Awhile back? I'm genuinely wondering if they have mentioned that view again. The survey, at least, did have a focus on humanity; human - centric; finding home for humanity was mentioned specifically.
Maybe as some said that was only referring to it being from the POV of a human. Otherwise, idk how they're going to do it. There may be one Helios alien crewmate, or squadmate?
We did bring our home with us. The Milky Way...ians are one family now. Would be perceived as one family by inhabitants of Helios. All of us new kids on the block. The survey was very specific about humanity, but things change. Maybe they got feedback on the survey that prompted them to go in a slightly different direction.
So far, the only Helios folks I know about are the possible Khet? The Remnant seem now like they are defunct as a civilization, and we're trawling through their vaults for...stuffs.

IIRC, the warring races is what they said they were doing. Makes it so it does not revolve all around us. These people had issues already. We're probably just picking a side and working to help them. Also establishing a mutually beneficial alliance with some of these races.
But the conflicts do not seem to be about us directly. At least not initially.

"We are the aliens" is just a catchy tagline, and I wouldn't put too much weight into it. There will be new species to interact with, so it's not a disingenuous tagline.
