Warning: The turret still doesn't work right post-patch if you are not hosting. You NEED to be the host for this build. BUILD: Cryo-Beam (Rank 6): Rank 4 - damage, Rank 5 - Radius, Rank 6 - Cryotrap Assault Turret (Rank 6), Rank 4 - Recharge speed, Rank 5 - Omni-link, Rank 6 - Cryo-ammo Overload (Rank 3) Offensive Tech (Rank 5): Rank 4 - damage/duration), Rank 5 - Shield damage bonus Support Systems (Rank 6): Rank 4 - Radius, Rank 5 - Health & shields, Rank 6 - Shield Regen every 10 secs from power use. JUSTIFICATION: Cryobeam Rank 4 damage over recharge speed on cryobeam, you will boost your recharge speed with the turret anyways. Cryobeam Rank 5 Radius over brittle freeze. Your turret armed with cryo ammo will already be doing a 100% armor debuff! Couple this with your cryobeam's existing armor debuff and brittle freeze is just overkill to tackle armored foes that are fewer in number. You need a balanced build. You need the radius evolve for this build and you will be be spraying cryo all over the place, cryotrapping everything (walkways, chokepoints, etc). You can easily freeze things that are sitting in cover with this evolution. Offensive tech: Rank 4, you need damage and duration to extend your chill effects. Rank 5 - Shield bonus, this will be a great universal boost to your turret's damage to shields, overload's shield damage and your cryobeam's shield damage. Now, you're a balanced/optimized cat who can tackle armor, shields and chill the hell out of large groups with your cryotraps. Support Systems: Rank 4 for radius offers 2 benefits. It greatly enhances your cryobeam/cryotrap's AOE. Another important effect is that it expands the radius at which your omni-link works for recharge speed and turret healing. Its not always practical to hug the turret real close. The increased radius helps a lot with positioning yourself better in maps. Rank 5, health and shields (YOU NEED IT!). Rank 6 shield reset every 10 seconds (YOU NEED IT). This is the equivalent of a energy drain or shield boost with a recharge time of 10 seconds to keep your squishy self alive. Tech sabotage debuffs enemy damage output by 30%. But it ain't freaking enough! They will still take your squishy self down with their debuffed damage. The human engineer has always been very squishy (in comparison to other characters). You will notice that your survival rate will go way up with shield reset than tech sabotage. This build neglects elemental tech because it doesn't want you to be dependent on some elemental ammo type to do high damage. This build as is, will do plenty high damage. You WILL be very close or beat the scores of ammo dependent engineers running elemental tech. Playstyle: You really don't want a Crusader or Piranha and gun it up close and personal on a group of enemies with this squishy character. You need to play smarter than that (you're an engineer after all!). You need to play midrange with a assault rifle/pistol and ideally seat your turret slightly behind you as you sit in cover (southeast or southwest, within omni-link range). If something flanks you from behind, it will run into the turret giving you a warning/chance to explode it and escape. For enemies in front of you, the idea is to keep the turret alive as long as possible with your omni-link. In turn, the turret will a) attract fire, i.e, less enemies shooting at you cryofreeze the living daylights outta everything, post patch significant damage output c) and boost your recharge speed. Its a symbiotic relationship, a wonderful little thing you can't live without. Tactical usage of cryotraps, i think this has been widely talked about. So i won't bother with the details again. Use charged overload for stun/stripping shields, cryo, shoot, cryo-combo, etc etc, rinse, repeat. Good luck...

Glad you found a build that works for you, but it's a bit silly to say you've optimized it. It's optimized for camping. Nothing wrong with that per se, but it's certainly not the manner in which *most* higher level players operate.
I enjoy the HE very much, but I found the turret micromanagement too cumbersome to be worth its bonuses when I specced heavily into it. IMO, its greatest utility is as an "oh shit" aggro dump when too many things are coming around a corner, or you need to stack up enemies outside an upload, etc. Works fine in that role with no additional skillpoint investment beyond the forced initial point.
Turretless also has great weapons flexibility. I've run it with good results using Inferno, Katana, and many others in between. A build that forces me into midrange or to be static is, IMO, severely gimped.

A build that forces me into midrange or to be static is, IMO, severely gimped. The squishy human engineer is not a vangaurd. The character's gameplay/design is optimized for this kind of build/playstyle. Dependence on an ammo type DEFINITELY ain't optimized if you're one of those guys running elemental ammo for damage output. I throw a revenant with a barrel/scope on this build and i've beat scores of turian soldiers, asari adepts, havocs, angara, (all your typical high damage output characters), etc. My score tends to sit around 22000 to 24000 (and i'm not using elemental ammo). If you feel that you're a "high level" player and i'm not, feel free to contest me online on a 2 man squad mission with your engineer build or any of those "top tier" high damage characters out there. We'll figure each other out that way. Fact is, the turret (post patch) is a beast when you're hosting and it works as its supposed to and you use it correctly. You are still heavily mobile with this build since you can easily relocate the turret post patch. Its just that if you're a squishy human engineer and you're out of cover a lot, running around in the great wide open, you're probably going down a lot too. If you're sitting in cover anyways, its really good to have a beast of a turret next to you. I rarely ever die with this build/playstyle and this should be future proofed for platinum difficulty as well. But, i suppose, thinking, managing a turret and using some strategy (instead of running and gunning) may not be for everyone.

I thought the turret's flamethrower primed, but only while it was firing, like the turrets in ME3? I remember getting fire detonations with it off-host pre-1.06.

I'd be interested in learning more about these cryo trap strategies. I did try it once post 1.06 and found it very lacklustre.

#NoCamping. Also, have you actually used the Crusader? Yes, i use the Dhan and Crusader on a higher risk play-style at mid-close range. This build is tailored to beginner players as well who may want to do high damage, take fewer risks and stay alive longer. Once you "git gud", you can go all kindsa wild stuff with ice squishy. Knock yourself out (nothing's stopping ya). On the same note, SITTING IN COVER IS NOT CAMPING (its a smarter way to play than dropping like a deadweight fly multiple times every round and aggravating your squad. Most human engineer pugs i see tend to be deadweights). You can be very mobile within mid to close range, and move your turret around, but this character is still very cover dependent. You should be sliding from cover to cover. The reason i suggest a higher range than way up close is to enhance the turret's life. Group spawns will fry the turret fast when you're up close, before the two of you get the chance to unshield/freeze the group. P.S. I have done successful gold solos with the human engineer post patch. Believe me, i've spent some time strategising with this character.

Stopped reading at cryotrap. Shit is ABSOLUTE garbage compared to the alternative.
Max overload, max for snap freeze and use elemental tech to help yourself and teammates.
Also cry ammo will keep elemental tech going until a boss dies if you set it off with cry free.
I hate to be so blunt and I am sure it will extract on gold, but its just horrible and not optimized. A 6 chain exploding cry-combo including ascendants and anointed in the mix? That is an optimized build..

I'm not going to state my average score, because it makes me feel like a gross tryhard. Not saying you are, just a personal thing. (You might be though, so don't think I'm ruling it out.) My initial impulse was to respond with an eyeroll to prime and a wank motion to detonate, but meh, if you're on the same platform (xbox) I guess I'm game. With a few stipulations: 1. I will not take this seriously. I've been playing the HE largely with an X5 lately since it's a good use for my cryo ammo, and I won't "optimize" weapons to make a point. 2. I will play Eye of the Tiger over the mic for the duration of the match, and you're not allowed to mute it. Failure to sing along at regular intervals to prove you can hear will constitute forfeiture. 3. If Kett, I will kite Fiends to you. If Outlaw, I will try to kite both Berzerkers to you whenever practical. It's not personal; I do this to all campers for lulz, especially if I know them. 4. If Remnant, I will rocket every Destroyer that opens its dumb face unless I've only got one left and we haven't hit the second objective yet. It's force of habit, not score-chasing, and I will not change for a one-off match. Literally 95% of my rockets in this game go to Destroyers. 5. I may or may not pretend to get staggered while reviving you when the meter hits 80-90%. Depending on the situation, possibly several times consecutively. I will not let you bleed out. Probably. 6. To be seriousish for a moment, in a true 1v1 (2-man team) a CQC engineer will be at a severe disadvantage to the camper due to aggro-soaking. I also don't trust you to leave a campsite to revive me, since I'm not sure I would in direct competition. If we're doing this, it'll be with a 4-man team (don't care if PUGs or friends), averaging scores of several games. 7. If I win, you will change your name to one of the following (your choice) for one week: - Biotic_Duck_A_L'Orange - Talisweat69 (probably taken) - Marshmallow_Manhole - Those_Who_Cant_Camp - Pyjack_The_Ripper - Trump_Sucks_Dump_Trucks 8. Yes, your name, not your gamertag. I will demand to see government-issued ID as proof. 9. Thunderdome, bruh.

I could give a rat's ass about your generous revive (In other words, not necessary, no necessito). And yes, it will be a 2 man game. No one else to confound our business. But, if i came on top, and you went down like a dodo, you would get a sex change and call yourself "Becky McBackFat" for the rest of your life. I will demand to see your goverment issued ID as proof. We'll even stream this game to the whole world. God bless. P.S What's a "thunderdome" by the way? Is that what happens to a dude named "Becky McBackFat" when he's constipated for a week and the doctor gave him a lethal dose of laxatives, for instance? Thunderdome! pfffttttt.

Well, well, my dear elemental ammo dependent friend, the only way to find out is to join me for a 2 man squad. 2 engineers, you and me on a gold match. Scores, survival rate, etc, etc ,etc will decide what was ABSOLUTE GARBAGE and what was not. God bless.

Simmer down a bit turbo. You do have an imagination though, which is good in this day n age. I am on PC, Sure, bring your engineer. You can kite whoever the Fk you want with any faction to me. Thunderdome! pfffttttt. Well, that was disappointing. You're not even clever enough to troll properly. Given your douche-quotient, silly self aggrandizing streak, and account creation date, I strongly suspect you're a Vegas alt. Good luck going pro.

Yourself, your daddy, your grand daddy ,(everyone, the list can get long) , we should all take a IQ test together, a wee li'l IQ test.... (Heck, it could be any measure of human IQ they can ever come up with in this world). If you, your daddy and your grand-daddy fail miserably, you will be "Becky McBackFat Jr", you daddy will be "Becky McBackFat Sr" and your grand-daddy will be "Becky McBackFat S.Sr". Oh boy,,,,did your momma tell you you were the "gifted" one in your podunk li'l town? Well, its time to bring you to back to reality boy.

Let's let the world know if you're "thunderdome" or plain ol' "Becky McBackFat"..... You're adorable. Imma do you a solid. You seem to be roughly 15, so you'll be taking standardized tests soon that'll have a big stake in determining the shape of your future. Among the most important subjects - for those tests and the long, full, post-pubescent life ahead of you - will be reading comprehension. Now, that said, scroll up a few posts and you'll see (probably?) that I clearly stated I play the game on a console, namely, the Xbox. You have clearly stated (good job - you may make up some ground in composition!) that you are on PC. I'm not gonna lead you all the way to the answer - teach a man to fish, and all that - but I hope you're starting to catch on to the problem. ... All that said, I'm still not playing you even if you steal from you mom's purse and buy an Xbox tonight. See, one day you'll find that gaming is an escape from the drudgery of the real world. I'll whittle away my smoke break trolling a simpleton who's young or dim enough to think "Becky McBackfat" is a killer burn, but I'm not gonna waste my game time on you. I've got friends for that. Look me up when you go pro though - I'll eat my words when I see how you're drowning in MEA groupies. XOXO

You also don't need elemental ammononnansnap freeze build but why would not you not spec into ET and run ancryo 1 on this character? This is the only character I run cryo ammo on and its beastly.

And you say running ammo consumables isnt optimized for this build, but you do realize that RANK 6 of its offensive passive is elemental tech right? You should be running ET and cry ammo in your camping build.
