I am really looking forward to finishing the third Effect, and the fangirl in me wants to immediately restart the MET with another gender/class, maybe a highe difficulty setting. But I also keep looking at DA install, that I've started and said: "meh". DA is the second Bio game I did not like (first was NWN). Usually, I open a bio/obsi game, and I am sold, but da was like... Well, meh.
Is it even close to MET if you get a bit deeper in it in terms of excitement and plots? Or does it stay slow, and really is too late for trying to get into it now, it's so dated?
Anyone who played both, had troubles with "getting into" DA, and then it was worth it?

Anyone who played both, had troubles with "getting into" DA, and then it was worth it? If you have more ideas for ME, I'd say try again. I liked DA, but have given up on the series after DAI. And if you already didn't like DAO, then there's less hope for you. lol. Because that's the better one. But I did like that immediately... but I know what you mean about NWN too. I didn't like that at first. After all is said and done though, Bioware should have never stopped using D&D. There's a reason why it's still vital after 30 years. Bioware ruins their own shit with epic plots. Their worlds get small really quick because of it.

Continue playing ME. Once you get tired of it, take a break and give DA a try. Have you tried playing all 3 DA games? If not, try playing the one you haven't. If interested, here's a thread for posting what you did in DA.

No, just tried Origins. I actually prefer BioWare's own IPs, because they know their world building, and imo do way better job than FR ever did. But the DA setting just sort of bore me. And the game artstyle was not my thing. I guess, it's not going anywhere, so I'll go play to see that infamous ME ending, and then try a different Shepard while I am all hot for it.

DA2 was the best of this, as far as that series goes.

SWTOR did it for me with some of its stories being decidedly unepic, and the character not being a descendant, carrier or recipient of a mighty power of any denomination. Argh, I just want to go home and star unravelling the threads in that other life. Boring day at work. i am also thinking I should buy the dlc's to spice up the second run.

Well I'm in similar position, tho I already know mostly everything about ME and played it for many times, I can't quite get into Dragon Age.

I've never played a MMO before SWTOR, and tbh my experience after was in favor of not really wasting my time on them. SWTOR has 8 solid class stories, but gameplay is really uber simplified now, and its storytelling falls apart after the class story. It is also fairily pricey to play it, for the price of sub. I did end up liking group content and met nice folks there.

As a rule, I prefer SF to fantasy, so you'd think ME would rate higher than DA for me, but it doesn't. Why? Because of the abysmally incompetent way the MET handled some typical SF themes, and because of some tropes whose presence I find unacceptable (blue space babes, ugh) for any SF work that wants to be taken at least somwhat seriously. Meanwhile, DA's themes aren't exactly my favorites, but they were handled in a significantly more competent way.
Then there's the roleplaying dimension, where DA ranks significantly higher by any measure I can think of.
So I'd say give DA a try. While DAO is my favorite I can understand if it doesn't work for some, but DAI should, and even DA2 if you can get over the abysmal encounter design and the overabundance of parodistic elements.

I think I was trying to move around some tower and convince some guy that cheating on his exams as a Mage.... Or something. I just remember being Ina dark tower and it being boring, dark and ugly looking with some sort of background how everyone just hates mages out there.

For me the Circle mage origin (the one you were playing) was the most boring one. It's short anyway, and once you get past it the story really starts. I like both series, maybe a bit more the DA setting.

The graphics of the game are obviously outdated and there's not really beautiful sceneries like in DAI which was really beautiful, but I think the story is worth it. I first tried DAO because a friend suggested that I may like it since I loved Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games. And then he suggested that I might like Mass Effect too. I thing ME1 is a bit bland compared to DA:origins. DA has much more conversations with your companions and the quests are more versatile. It's much more RPG than ME1 which I think is basically a shooter game with a bit of RPG elements.

I liked the mage and the city elf the most. And I agree with Vella completely, the story gets much better after the origin, in fact it gets really exciting and you get this very dark and gritty atmosphere. I love how you get to know all the companions, it's on a much more deeper level than in mass effect. But of course I love mass effect too, they both have their own charm.

If fantasy is really not your thing, stick to ME. But if you're willing to give DAO another try, go for dwarf commoner/city elf origins, the plight of the underdog theme is really well-played here. Also, it's your chance to show the middle finger to the high and mighty of Thedas

I just remember being Ina dark tower and it being boring, dark and ugly looking with some sort of background how everyone just hates mages out there. If there's any problem I have with both the first ME and DAO, it's that they take forever to get past the introductory levels (Probably the biggest reason I don't have more playthroughs of each). DAO is probably worse, that's the origin and then Ostagar and Lothering. If you have the time, I'd suggest trying it again with a different origin to see if you like it past then. Maybe one of the dwarf origins would be more to your taste. If you want something without an epic scale, DA2 is a fairly unusual offering in that regard. You're a penniless refugee fleeing the disaster of the first game and trying to rise in status, getting caught up in the city's troubles along the way. It has plenty of its own problems, but it avoids the whole chosen one thing pretty handily.

I started out with Dragon Age to Mass Effect. Honestly, I recommend trying out Star Wars The Old Republic first since its F2P. The playstyle is similar to Dragon Age, storywise its more closer to ME because its largely space opera but veering at the edge of fantasy.

Just start Mass Effect again. It can be a very different experience if you choose a different class and a different personality. Switching genders doesn't change things too much besides the romance options and a couple lines of dialog but it's still worth doing.
