I'm rather certain Ryder don't start out as such because Ryder is suppose to be inexperienced and N7s are the very anthesis of inexperienced. It might be that Ryder becomes N7 over the course of the story but I hope not: if Ryder has to become an N-something then I'd like for it to be one of the lower numbers.

One time's the fun, two times the ride again? On topic, I think that was extremely early in development. I don't think we'll see an N7 character (or rather playable) in this game.

If I recall correctly, it was. If you look at this armor and compare to the father's armor then you can see the similarities between the two like the flap by the neck. I think this concept armor for the protagonist became his armor likely as some ideas were dropped, some remained and some were changed. The protagonist may very well have been N7 initially but the development team decided to go a different route.

Ryder starts less exprienced than Shepard was, so no N7. He might become N7 at the end of the game? In this video from 2015 the N7 Guy was called the Pathfinder. They still changed stuff. The upcoming novel for example was first anounced as Mass Effect: Pathfinder Initiative and now Mass Effect: Andromeda Initiative.

They've been clear in emphasizing that Ryder will be inexperienced. N7 could end up being a designation we achieve in the course of the game, but probably not at the start.

It's a journey like people already said, a journey to prove you are a hero.
I believe that in this game the N7 designation will only be granted to the most talented and intelligent soldiers, only to those who have proven they are worthy of such an honor. So I think that Ryder will be promoted to N7 Rank in a key moment of the game.

I'm curious to know why the N7 logo is not in the same spot as what is seen on Shepard's armor.

I'm curious to know why the N7 logo is not in the same spot as what is seen on Shepard's armor. I think it is just due to the armor having a different design that implements the N7 aspects in another way. You can see on the picture below that N7 also has the arm stripe on his armor only it either ends at the shoulder or it runs down his arm in a non-straight line unlike Shepard's arm stripe. It looks like it possibly curves around his arm below the shoulder but it dosen't look it continues all the way down.

Shepard has the logo on the upper right chest while the logo, on Ryder's armor, is near the heart. Was it changed just to be different? Was it changed just for the character in the game? Do other N7's have armor with the logo on different parts of their torso? Its possible Ryder was issued the new N7 armor, but wasn't handed out to other N7's at the time since maybe Ryder was "testing" the abilities of the new armor. Maybe the Alliance had plans to have the armor approved for production, but because the reapers showed up, they weren't able to do that. Its something I noticed and would be curious as to why.

I actually hope that we don't become N7. You earn your N7 designation by playing MP missions starting at N1 and working your way through the ranks. In order to get the optimal ending and save your family members you have to be N7. But remember everyday you don't play you lose ranking points. Alternatively, you can buy the rank on a per playthrough basis for the low cost of 9.99...

Maybe "your father" will become your mentor after you have gotten through quite a bit of combat. Training you, being the N7 mentor and all that as part of helping you survive as it becommes clear that the galaxy is very dangerous.
I don't know how official it would be but one N7 can sponsor another for N7 training etz. In reality anyone could be trainined in those skills without officialy being an N/, the actual designation is more of an honour.... Then again, I guess if there is some kind of Human alliance government and military structure for the collonists then they might as well utilise those old ideas, standards ranks and training regiments etz, perhaps adapt them to the circumstances they are in.
It would make sense for them to train their defenceforces and special operations teams for when needed. Maybe there is an N7 program of some type in Andromeda aswell.

I actually hope that we don't become N7. Maybe it's a choice. Tbh, it's more of an honour than something that changes who you are, what might change things would be special training, but you can probably get training wihout it. I don't know, I just hope it's a damn good story, not much else you can hope for in a Mass effect game.

I'm curious to know why the N7 logo is not in the same spot as what is seen on Shepard's armor. Shepard's N7 insignia moved around a lot depending on what armour or chest mods they were wearing in ME2-3, although the logo tended to remain always on the left (when viewed from the front), rather than the right as it is on Ryder's armour. I don't think there's any significance though, it's probably just a design variant.

I'd rather the N7 designation be a rare thing in the ME universe.

N7s go through crazy training; it should be enough that we have one on the team. I'd rather the N7 designation be a rare thing in the ME universe. Seconded. The N7 designation is meant to be reserved only for those who have gone through the insane Alliance survival training that regularly washes out even the lucky few who've managed to pass the grueling ordeals that constituted ranks N1-6. Having Ryder's father have been an N7 graduate would make sense in terms of story, as whomever is organising the Andromeda Initiative would want to send people who have proven they can handle surviving in unknown and potentially hostile territory. If Ryder's father dies during the story (the devs have implied he's dead or no longer around at the time of MEA), the younger Ryder deciding to take up his armour and/or adopting the logo as a tribute would be an understandable and fitting way to the N7 symbol still appear, but not actually require Ryder to be N7. Similar to how the various strike teams in ME3 decided to adopt the name of "N7 forces", which Hackett let slide as it was good for morale.
