There are others, though you have to look at smaller, indie companies Obsidian Entertainment (Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, and the upcoming Pillars of Eternity 2 as well as older games like Fallout: New Vegas) Harebrained Schemes (Shadowrun Returns) Stoic Studio: (The Banner Saga, Banner Saga 2, Banner Saga 3 due out next year) Not to forget Divinity Original Sin and Divinity 2 coming this year. Indeed, that is true.

Abandoned? HA! When MEA was first starting out and they were sharing teasers with us, people were shitting on it, shitting on Ryder and acting salty over ME3's ending still. Now they want more MEA after all the trashing it before it was even playable? Game fans. The only reason MEA was doomed from the start was because it had the name "Mass Effect" in the title and people wanted blood. Anthem will be the current new focus with fans who will actually respect and enjoy it. I call it deserved karma to the ME fans who wanted their cake and to eat it too.

Hmm, it does rather seem like Mass Effect was pushed to the backseat so Anthem could ride up front. Can't help but feel a little bitter about that. Different studios. And handing them a 40 million budget doesn't sound like taking the backseat either. The screwup happened somewhere but it wasn't because of Anthem. Different studios is what I mean - the (less experienced) Montreal team was tasked with creating Andromeda whilst the other (more proven) teams worked on other stuff. And sure the game had a big budget and long development, but time and money alone don't make a great game. I'm just not sure MEA got the attention it needed.

Yeah, how dare people not like ME3's ending! Or not appreciate MEA being half-*ssed! There is no way Bioware simply f*cked up! Must be those darned fans... *the views here are not expressed by a Mass Effect fan, and who doesn't care if another Mass Effect game is ever made or not, but simply wants Bioware to start writing good SP RPGs again, regardless of setting*

The only reason MEA was doomed from the start was because it had the name "Mass Effect" in the title and people wanted blood. Yeah, sure. Same argument since the realease of DAII. The vampires are coming and they want blood. The game design is never at fault. With the added goodie of them royally screwing up the prerelease phase by promoting Origins Access and making the first ten bugged hours availabale to everyone. Every youtuber could posts their memes to cash in on ad money. Hope it paid off for you big guys. The money gained by access subscription against the shitstorm one of your flagship brands ran into.

Do you really think they willingly placed a gamble on a 40 million investment by not giving it full attention. And that's not even counting the manpower tied for 5 years.

So people are feeling abandoned by BioWare after acting like spoiled brats after Mass Effect 3 and how the forums at BioWare were overrun by a childish segment calling for firings, the company to be dissolved, people to be blacklisted, and other wishes to harm their careers. Now that team releases a new game is announced which gave them free reign to create a new IP and they feel abandoned. In some ways BioWare is just treating the "Mass Effect true fans" the same way they were treated. If you don't like it, don't buy their games and move on and support a developer that makes the games you enjoy. BioWare is moving on and you should too. Such a simple concept it's a shame that more people don't do it. I don't like The Witcher video games, the DCEU movies, and Michel Bay's Transformers movies, I don't buy game, tickets, watch them and I don't waste my money and time on garbage that I don't like. NO ONE has ever held a gun to my head and forced to be pre-ordered and/or buy ANY game (or any other form of media for that) that I didn't want to buy. I made the choice to buy ME:A on my Xbox One and PS4 and I don't regret it. Yeah even with the best critics and reviews and ignoring hype culture it's always a gamble that it's not going to be something that you like. You roll the dice and sometimes you get get gold and sometimes you get shit. I bought Man of Steel and that abortion so god damn awful that it killed off my dream of seeing a Superman/Batman team up movie that I wanted to see since 1989 I bought The Witcher 2 on the Xbox 360 and didn't like it so I sold it and I don't regret buying it or reselling it. Don't like Mass Effect franchise then don't support it, shut the fuck up, and go away.

Whoever decided to hand a delicate flower like Mass Effect to man-hands Montreal devs is the person to blame here: "Aww well, see what they can do with this massive franchise entry...they haven't made a full game before, but meh! I'm sure it'll be fine...." - Best Ever EA/BioWare Management Douche: 2013.

The problem is the nastier crowds are the ones who spoke the loudest, so those that felt truly hurt by things are not heard or listened to and shoved in with the big mouths who didn't care. The whole situation that caused patch 1.08 to occur was becoming downright abusive, with threats and all, and now that the patch has changed a character by demand, they are getting a whole other form of abuse for it. If I were them, I'd be glad to step away for sometime too.

The problem wasn't time, nor was it money. So it must have been something else. Lack of vision? Direction? Talent? The loss of the trilogy's core development team?

*watches everyone who replies and sees they are all users who have bashed MEA repeatedly here for months* Well, some people saw this disaster coming from a long time. I see nothing wrong with MEA and the patches have improved a lot of things people disliked, so I see no issues. I liked the story, the characters and how it is played. The attacks on the writing and ending is opinion, but nothing that would have likely changed if they had more time. They did end up a bit too careful with it, but they planed a saga, and the game was meant to end on a happy note, with a hint of more adventures to come and that's what happened. They aren't done with MEA either. Gamble said there's more to come.

Might help BW improve on things in the future if they read this stuff, and they do read these threads. A saw a lot of things changed in patch 1.08 that were mentioned here many times.

But that's not Anthems fault. It may have been a bad business decision to hand it over to Montreal that only worked on supporting content so far, but the cold hard truth is, we don't know if Edmonton would have come up with something more exciting. They tried a whole new concept here. I wouldn't have expected them to take the same approach as in DAI with open spaces to explore. I rather expected them to stay on the linear path the OT had. That obviously was a chore for them to develop without managing to come up with a convincincing result.

Yeah, I bought ME:A at full price on release and spent £800 upgrading my rig to do it justice fully determined to hate it. I mean why would I? Mass Effect is my favourite game franchise of all time, the idea that ME:A would be such a damp squib I wouldn't even finish it just didn't enter my mind. What doomed ME:A was low ambition, they gave it neither the time, money or experience required. They should have been shooting for game of the year candidate, instead they pushed it out the door, premature, weak and malformed, they had to know the reception it was going to get, but obviously they calculated they would profit anyway because die hard Mass Effect fans would lap it up. Did Mass Effect haters buy it, probably not as they are haters obviously, who got shat on here? the fans that had faith in the studio and expected more.

I did the same, but I knew they'd patch it up and now it's a new experience, with new cutscenes, and new animations. They even scrapped the Tempest intro we used to tease about.
