www.ea.com/news/an-organizational-update... EA Worldwide Studios will bring together our top creative talent in all of our great studios to work on EA’s powerful brand portfolio and new IP. EA Mobile and Maxis will join this central studios organization led by Patrick Söderlund. Samantha Ryan, who will now report to Patrick, will continue to lead our Mobile and Maxis teams. Sam will also take on leadership of BioWare, where her love for RPGs and experience with open-world adventure games is an outstanding fit to work with Aaryn Flynn and his great team. .... There is one link on forums to that article and somewhere no one can see, so, I'll re-post it here. I do think such serious changes in the company explain MEA delay, personal forums closer and worn about BW studio's future. Combining BW and MOBILE games?! I feel less and less confident about BW future. And also too tempted to say "I told so!" to resist, because I did tell forms closure means BW will become nothing more but a small department with no hint of independents in creativity!

Strange. It does seem that EA Mobile/Maxis and BioWare are still completely seperate, but only clustered because of having the same boss. Or is the new IP a mobile game with augmented reality and..

Seems to me more like a corporate re-organization rather than something that will affect the development studios. They are just streamlining the corporate "chain of command" so to say. I wouldn't worry in advance. Ultimately a company should be judged by the quality of their games.

Samantha Ryan seems to have a decent enough biography, she's not particularly a Mobile person. www.ea.com/executives#samantha-ryan"Prior to joining EA in 2015, Ryan served as Senior Vice President of Production & Development at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. She played a critical role in growing Warner Bros. into a Top 10 publisher and managed successful development studios including Rocksteady, WB Games Montreal, and NetherRealm. During her tenure she oversaw titles including the award-winning Batman: Arkham franchise, Mortal Kombat, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Scribblenauts and Injustice: Gods Among Us. Prior to Warner Bros., she served as President of Monolith Productions where she directed titles such as the critically received No One Lives Forever and F.E.A.R. Her career prior to games included work in promotions and marketing for Infinity Broadcasting and consultant to the Singapore Broadcast Corporation. Samantha is a lifelong gamer from her early days playing Archon and Wizard on her Commodore 64 through personal favorites like Super Paper Mario, StarCraft and The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Ryan is based in the Bay Area with her family."

At this point it does not seem to be more than a technical restructurization. EA need to manage all those budgets and resources.
It's been 'BioWare, a division of EA' long enough already, you know. It's not like 'BioWare, a division of EA Worldwide Studios' is a critical change. I don't think they are willing to drop the old brand entirely, their name still has some value. But even if they do - it does not mean that developing studios are going to be afected directly.
I don't think it's a good idea to demonize EA. They are simply doing their buisness. Take a look at Disney - they release lots of stuff, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's awesome. All the products are different and their quality depend on directors, actors and artists. E.g. recent 'Alice' is a pale joke compared to the first movie, while 'Dory' turned out to be an unexpectedly great and well-made sequel.

But if Pixar-Disney remained Pixar (first and foremost - someone sponsored by Disney), BW has a big chance to loose it's name completely and it will be EA Worldwide Studios' production. Doom and gloom, I know, but it's so much in line with all resent turmoils about the studio, nothing can surprise me now. (Wrong, still can not comprehend combination of Bioware and Mobile)

Ryan is hit or miss, but she has made some good games in the past.
No One Lives Forever comes to mind. She also worked at WB games on the Arkham series and Scribblenauts.
There is some potential here.

And a dying one at that. Meh, at least she's a female. Maybe that'll wake her up.

Worst that can happen is losing a familiar logo on a dvd-case\in game intro, but it only makes sence along with the carefully planned and slow rebranding process. That's if they do wish to abandon the old and recognizable brand.
People leaving seems much more troubling to me, but that had already happened (same true for becoming part of EA). The main question is how many devoted and skilled devs remain in projects, not what their corporate T-shirt looks like.

Seems like the only ones truly affected by this are Aaryn Flynn and other upper management in terms of who they report to and how. The studios will continue to operate as before. I could be wrong, but as an analogy I interpret it as just being the equivalent to EA having a bunch of loose files on their HDD and now creating a EA Worldwide Studios folder with its own Bioware and Mobile/Maxis folders to which they then move all the loose .bioware and .maxis-files to make everything look more neat on their end and easier to navigate.

So I did some re-reading of this.
It doesn't technically say BioWare is part of EA Worldwide.
It does sort of imply it though.
Perhaps it's just the creation of a new division by consolidating the Mobile and Maxis divisions. I think BioWare is still on the EA Games label though. Can't be sure, going to email them for clarification.

Meh, at least she's a female. Maybe that'll wake her up. I find it funny that someone actually believes that of all things - her gender is going to make a difference somehow... Also, not sexist at all, right? I wonder what would be your response to someone saying on a male suit "at least he's a male". Meh, paint me as the misogynist all you like. All that I'm trying to do is point out the fact that some of those games are so vitriolic that they can spew forth such hatred towards women with such ease. Competition is a bitch, and everything is a slave when competition, and/or winning, becomes your number one priority.

This change seems like to be only in name (Maybe except for Aaryn Flyn?). But truth be told EA won her reputation thanks to the bad treatment given to their workers some years ago. Not sure how it is now.

If anything claiming that someone would be better just by virtue of them being a female (at least without a technical reason) - would be misandry, not misogyny. Sexism would be the general term for prejudice against a specific gender. But I'm sure you know that yourself. Which of these games is so terrible? Scribblenauts?... I do agree regarding the vicious competition on this level, which is precisely why I found the idea that her being a female would make a difference rather hilarious. You're fucking fishing, looking for a response. I never claimed that she'd be better, and I dare you to find it.

I've been hearing that 'not the same anymore' crap since NwN. Plenty of people who had loved BG hated NwN back then. Does not stop NwN from being classics that had proven itself as one of the best PC DnD\PnP games (if not 'THE Best'). And KOTOR, DAO&ME1 had it even worse, lots of hatered and QQing about 'dumbing the gameplay& RPG features down', yet I see DAO&ME on your 'golden BW list'. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all the BW games are 100% perfect and flawless. I'm just saying that things change, and so do people, and so do games. We're yet to see what kind of changes are these ones.

Just seems like a reorganization of the company's corporate layout. I don't think it'll harm in any way as Samantha Ryan seems like an ideal person for that slot. BioWare on the other hand just seems lost. Like it no longer feels like its own studio; just a piece of the EA puzzle. They lost 3 of their most notable and prominent execs and/or visionaries.

Hmm. Giving Samantha Ryan's previous track record, she seems like she'll be a good fit for Bioware.
However, can't say this EA restructuring isn't a little worrying for me.
