What was this thread about again? Liam was suspended a dozen times in two years. Alec's strong suit was definitely not in hiring. And thank you.

What I wrote is not exaggerated. Exaggerated would be if I labeled Republicans as racist misogynists, but not all of them are, clearly. Learn what stereotype means. Prove it then. Give me the numbers. How many are for? How many against? I honestly don't know where you figured it was a good idea to get on this triade. 85% of registered republicans are evangelical Christians who believe the Bible is the literal word of god... and the Bible is black and white on these issues. Faceman might be in the 15% of deplorables who think otherwise.

To keep things on-topic and mod-friendly, further discussion about what is/is not a Republican will not be discussed by me in this thread - political discussion goes in the Politics thread here.

just butting in here but given how respectful bioware has been towards religion its one of the only safe places out there for People who have a conservative versus liberal bent. That reminds me, I was watching a video interview of one of the Dragon Age devs... I think it was Weekes. It did strike me how respectful he was with the idea of religion and the role it plays in society. granted i haven't seen said interview but from what I've heard it wouldn't surprise me either. And how their games...especially inquisition...turned out.

The AI is full of rejects, guys. That seemed like a very obvious theme.
Nothing about the AI screamed "the best of the Milky Way"
Alec is a dishonorable soldier.
Cora is a failed Asari Huntress wannabe.
The Ryder twins are military child outcasts.
Liam is an ex-cop.
Drack is past his glory days.
Vetra's a smuggler with mommy issues.
the list goes on....
Everyone is running from something.

It does make me wonder about what would happen in the unlikely event the Pathfinder, Ryder and Cora died. Is Liam next in line to be Pathfinder or at the very least put in the running? If Cora had lived and not the Ryders, would Liam have been her understudy? In either case he doesn't strike me as the type ready for the responsibility. That's all that needs to be said. He'd have "extra duty" until that attitude was broken. He's salvageable.

Ok so they were not the best of the Milky Way, but at least some screening and vetting of people? Isabelle Haysley says she hates the initiative, why sign up?? Elora wanted to blow up the Nexus, the Outcasts, the Outposts, everyone! How did Knight and her kid (with lifelong medical issues) get in? The benefactor is putting up a lot of money and knows the Reapers are on the horizon. This is the selection process for ensuring civilization continues?
This is why I say the Squad members you got and the Milky Way characters in the game are Deus Ex Machina. They wanted to create an interesting universe, a new IP, but decided to separate the logic of a screening and vetting process for something like a Civ-Saving-Scheme, from creating an interesting set of characters. I think the better way would have been to have the Pathfinder arrive first (not the Nexus) and invest time in creating characters from new races with shady backgrounds.

Its more of a question to me whether that will end up being part of a 'past catches up with you' theme in a future game (or even MEA DLC..). Or whether I'm totally off base and NO MILKY WAY EVER THEY SAID.

I don't think they can really do a "past catches up with you" theme with most of the characters since the past they left in the Milky Way is 600 years dead at this point in time. I suppose, if we see subsequent arks arriving... people involved in the past of these characters could turn up unexpectedly in Andromeda.... perhaps most likely in Vetra's case.

Makes the whole Ryder v Shepard thing kind of a joke, no? King/Queen of the Rejects vs, well, King Kong Shepard. Lulz Ryder is and was in a better positioning at his age then Shepard. And with more accomplishments (even with any assistance and 'boost' you can imagine; though in the trilogy and especially ME2 Shepard got his own 'boosts') at the end of MEA than Shepard at his age (war history, N7 training). It isn't Ryder > Shepard, but I think the point is Ryder might end up > Shepard if his journey continues like this. Reject? Somewhat, in that Ryder never proves himself until MEA whereas Shepard has more intense formation of who we see in ME1. But Ryder is given relatively more and then over MEA does relatively more with what he's given. Stronger then Shepard? No, at least not without higher tech helping Ryder quite a bit. Smarter? Probably, and that can matter a lot in broadening horizons. Sometimes I think Shepard was dumb enough that this is what hardened his 'will' against the Reapers. If you can't even start to see possibilities, the Reapers can't mess with you about it as easily/quickly. There wasn't 'grunt' symbolism in the trilogy for now reason - Shepard is a glorified superstrong.... grunt. He'll punch Ryder's face in. But Ryder can still end up being a more powerful character if actually given the 2+ game arc.

I suppose, if we see subsequent arks arriving... people involved in the past of these characters could turn up unexpectedly in Andromeda.... perhaps most likely in Vetra's case. Yes. Or whatever else. Important data. Wormholes or whatever. Long historical secrets of Helius tying into secrets of Milky Way. Some in MW actually having more to do with Andromeda than we supposed. Patterns of the MW starting to repeat as people alive from the MW don't change quite so easily or quickly (my personal fav might be Cora indeed having something to do with TIM, even if in mostly ignorance until that point, starting a sort of Neo Cerberus under different name and ethos). Point is, when there's a theme of 'running away' acknowledged, that's okay and they can 'run away', but that doesn't mean others (or rather, other related concepts) can't catch up. Its a pretty common dramatic scheme. And it can be done indirectly enough that no one needs to know anything from the trilogy, but it just gives more information, and a certain unnecessary but enjoyed perspective. This always exists in Bioware series, but it was less of a thing in ME due to consistent protagonist and antagonistic force.

The initiative has many people with shady backgrounds. SAM says Sloane has a "nearly spotless record" but then follows it with saying she had multiple incidents with superior officers. Thats not 'nearly spotless'. The way I explain it is that they did not want to have vetted people for the initiative since they were not creating a new world in Andromeda, but a semi-new one. You arrive 14 months after the Nexus so they can set up the cluster for you, and hence you only end up with 3 angara only worlds, only one of which has a complete map (Voeld). To create the same range of characters (the noble, the scoundrel, the dreamer, the by the book...etc) they draw it from the initiative. So you get people like Liam, Sloane, Spender, Reyes and so on who would have never made the cut if there was any kind of real screening going on. They all seem like bad apples as opposed to apples that went bad in Andromeda - because its less effort to write it that way. Exactly. This is not really explained in the game but it really does make it easier to understand why Liam and Peebee are the way they are and are on your team. Liam and to a lesser extent, Peebee , drive many of us crazy with why would we keep them. If you compare them with the general population of misfits that ended up on the Nexus though it makes sense. All of these people had problems or situations they were running away from. Sloane, Spender, Reyes, Knight, the exiles on Kadara, are not untypical. Actually the people left on the Nexus after the revolt were the better ones...and still you have Spender and the saboteur after that. If you look at who ends up on Kadara or Elladen as outlaws it looks like there were MOSTLY complete bad apples. This makes Liam and Peebee saints comparably. I mean who would you get to volunteer to sleep for 600 years and go to another galaxy?
