Since these augments were added I've been picking them up from merchants when I see them and I've started playing around with them to find what weapons they work well on.
So far the best overall weapon for Auto and Single fire I've found is the Valkyrie. An auto Hornet is also silly fun, loses all of it's accuracy and stability but becomes an ungodly bullet hose with a fire rate in excess of 1400. I won't say it's good but a burst Predator is a pretty accurate recreation of the Shuriken.
Has anyone else found some good uses for the fire type augments? They're niche as the other augments that affect what/how a gun shoots but they can be fun.

Not 100% on topic, but I would suggest applying the new and improved Beam Emitter to an N7 Valkyrie. It effectively gives it full-auto fire + 100% accuracy + minimised recoil.

Does it actually give a laser beam like remnant weapons now? Yep - identical to the PAW in terms of function and appearance. Only with the DPS of the base weapon. Which on the Valkyrie means it's substantially stronger. My personal build is Beam Emitter + Coolant Unit + Mod Aug + 2x Kinetic Coils. I use a barrel/scope/stock setup. With a consumable and clip passive you get 29 'rounds', which equates to about 6 seconds of continuous beam i.e. enough to knock down 3-4 troops if you go for the head. You could add a clip mod on top of this but I hate the colour and tend to use it in short bursts

side winder+burst fire+plasma charge system+bio converter. Charge it up to fire three charged shots, or rapid click to spam. Don't try it with the talon unless you want to crash your game though.

I wonder what it would be like on the X5 then? I have been experimenting with the base version without any mods outside of weapon damage for I don't want to lose them if I choose to destroy it.

I was thinking weapon mod, not crafting mod. I forgot that it was applied to the Mattock during crafting. Well, I've yet to get to Kadara yet so we'll see if the Halberd shows up as being able to be crafted.

Well, I've yet to get to Kadara yet so we'll see if the Halberd shows up as being able to be crafted. It doesn't, not from what I could see anyway. On the other hand, with the various fire augs now easily available, there isn't a particular benefit to crafting halberds. The Valkyrie in particular seems to work well with both single and auto augs for the purposes of a vanilla and auto Halberd respectively.

I wouldn't be too upset if it's not, since making the Mattock an automatic works well enough and the Valkyrie would be even better.

I think the thing with the Valkyrie is that the only bad thing is it's derpy dual-shot burst which always manages to be sub-optimal regardless of the situation. In terms of DPS and sustain it's a damn good rifle, and most of the augs fix that. Hell, as I say, it makes an awesome laser rifle on top of whatever the ballistic augs can do.

Is it better to go with full auto or beam emitter on the valkyrie?
Apparently both the valkyrie and hornet are doing twice the dps of other weapons.

I can't say, I haven't really done enough testing with the auto aug. My main motivations for trying out a beam emitter on a Valkyrie was simply to see if I could create a reskinned PAW, as I really like the continuous beam but also really like the Valkyrie's model. It was only after testing it when I realised I might as well have been told by Grand Moff Tarkin that I may fire when ready. I'm not sure it is actually doing 'twice the DPS'. It's DPS is pretty high but can't see any indication its doing something other than what the aug says it does. Same goes for the Hornet. They're both weapons with very high rates of fire/damage per shot ratios, primarily because they were burst fire. That limit can now be removed.

I didn't use the fire type augments much in my first run through as I was concentrating on sniping and everything I tried seemed to make it worse. In fact even on AR's and Shotguns I could never really find an augment I liked. This second run through I tried the beam emitter on a Valkyrie and it's pretty amazing. Definitely keeping that combo!
Has anyone found a use for the grenade one? I tried it on a Side Winder but it seems pretty awful!

If you multiply a weapons rate of fire by its damage per shot you get the optimal dps. At rank 1 (I'm on a new play through), most weapons do around 20k. The valkyrie and hornet are both over 50k. So like you say, if we can remove that limitation with full auto or beam, these weapons should be doing a lot more damage than others. I'm a fan of the blue and white hornet more so than the valkyrie, so I'm trying to use it as a substitute. Problem is it has a really small clip size, so I'm worried that with the beam augment it will run out of ammo super fast.

Ah right, I thought you meant they were doing 100% more DPS then they should be. Yeah, both of these weapons were specced with burst firing in mind. In full-auto aug's case, you're paying for that with burst-level recoil, whereas with the Beam Emitter you're not getting any clip extension without adding any extra mods/augs. The Beam Emitter does something weird with clips, though. I'm not sure every 'shot' it fires equates to a single 'round' in the clip. For me, my laser valkyrie (I call it the N7 Scythe, after the very similar gun in Helldivers) maintains it's 500rpm fire rate with a 29 round clip, which equates to around 6 seconds of continuous beam. Unless my math or understanding of the rate of fire stat is wrong, (500/60)x6 equates to 50 'rounds' fired in that same time. So it might be fine. My advice? Just try it.

Since these augments were added I've been picking them up from merchants Speaking of this, where can you buy them? I have only seen them on the general vendor on the Nexus, and even there you have to board the Tempest and come back to refresh the list, and it's randomized.

Is it better to go with full auto or beam emitter on the valkyrie? Apparently both the valkyrie and hornet are doing twice the dps of other weapons. The damage penalty/bonus on these augments is additive with damage from barrels and skills. This means that ultimately the full auto augment increases dps even before taking into account human error from manual clicking. Beam emitter keeps the dps the same and makes the gun very accurate. You can use both on the same weapon. This guy made a chart with some dps info about the auto fire system and bio converter.
