It might just be me. I cannot find a reason to use flamethrower except for when my clip runs dry and the bad guy has just a little more health. It doesn't make enemies do the I'm on fire dance fast enough to be a stun, doesn't do much vs shields, the damage output is really poor especially when considering it leaves you exposed and you have a gun(s), and the DoT is mostly pointless.
So tell me, am I doing it wrong or does this power really suck?
I haven't done the challenge for this power yet and would like to do it with the least amount of pain possible without resorting to soloing bronze.

I think that it generally sucks provided you aren't running common weapons. I have only seen it used a few times on gold. I suspect best use for it is blinding heat debuff in team play.
That brings up a question as to whether setting things on fire with incendiary ammo would count for debuff as well. Might actually make it useful in more applications (and without actually using flamethrower itself).

It's solidly meh.
It only works ok when maxed, and most kits have much much better alternatives.

The Flamer in this game should be ashamed of itself.

I use flamethrower all the time, at all levels, especially on the turian agent. You get a lot of points for it and its a mass killer of red bars. It a lot of fun to get the jump on a spawn of red bars and have them all burning to death in a few seconds as you recloak away. It doesn't take long to have them writhing away.

I've found the flamethrower is good on the TAgent, but not worth it on the Krogan.
Flamethrower on the TAgent has some great utility, allowing you to debuff enemies against you twice from blinding heat and passive.
When enemies shoot pea shooters at you, it makes sense to laugh while watching them burn to death while accelerating their demise with your weapon.

I think there's a real imbalance between powers in this game. We only have 3 ability slots, and there's little reason to use abilities like flamethrower, which only primes, over abilities like incinerate, overload, or energy drain that can both prime and detonate.
I really like flamethrower, visually and functionally, but its in a bad spot compared to other options.

Just finished the challenge for it using the Mercenary. One of the faster challenges I've done.
Gonna bin the power now, as it blinds my teammates just as bad as it did in ME3.

i like flamethrower, and it fits fairly well into my playstyle. most of the time when i'm playing kromerc, i'm running around trying to find things to kill, and the less time i spend with each enemy the better.
everything i come across gets a flak cannon to the face. anything that's not shielded also gets a flamethrower to the face (never the full duration, just a 1-2 second burst to set them on fire). most enemies i come across end up with both DOTs ticking on them, and nothing short of a boss survives. and while they may not die as quickly as if i had stayed to continue firing, at the end i was able to kill that enemy after only spending 1-2 seconds of effort (flak + flame then move on). half the time, enemies will die when i am halfway across the map looking for my next target.
plus i also take blinding heat, which i think gives either assist or support points.

I love destroying players who mis-use the Turian Agent and use his Flamethrower. I use Flamethrower on the Krogan Mercenary because Munitions training past Rank 4 is mostly pointless and I love to use that class as the ultimate Tank. I prefer Damage at 4, Reach at 5, and Blinding Heat on 6.

Plus, he's the only kit who can absolutely tank 2 berzerkers, a hydra and one or two interfering mooks. Even the kroguard doesn't tank all that. Well, not in my hands at least.

Unreliable enough for me to skip on Kromerc and go rank 3 on T.Agent.
Just like you said.. too late to put enemies on fire and sometimes even miss enemy entirely for no reason.

Flamethrower being useless against shielded enemy is why that power is big no to me.

I was looking into a KrogEngy build and thinking the exact same thing. Incinerate was superior to Fthrower in every way: initial damage, burning damage, longer range. Why on earth would I choose Fthrower on a build designed to kill things quickly to keep Rage active?

On a serious note, it's disappointing to hear people's opinions on Flamerthrower. I put points into it on my Krogan Mercenary thinking it would be a decent power after the 1.06 update. I guess not. The only redeeming factor I can think of is that it's AoE and doesn't use a power cell. So after hitting a group of mooks with flak cannon you can flamer them to speed up the kill time. But other than that, yeah... It still looks cool though. And it doesn't sound like a jaguar.
