ME:A writer Joanna Berry is also at Montreal Comic Con, although doubtful she will take part of Q&A Panel. Also 2 hours until ME:A's Q&A Panel. Since no one from here is going there it will probably be the same questions again: talk about Shepard/ Garrus/ Tali etcetera...

With 4 hours until ME:A Panel, @masseffect posted this:
Hmh... Hmm trying to get more new people into the game maybe? It sounds like they're pretty confident they have a "finished product" after 1.09. Well tbh I think they did after 1.08 but yeah I think it' kind of close to where things should have been at launch now I think. There's going to be more patches as there still are 1 or 2 problems that still need it I think but I think the worst is over in that the game's in a workable and presentable state now so that's got to be a comfort for everyone (Bioware included) and they can think about what to do next.

Replay OT and you will see a difference. A HUGE difference. If you have young and inexperienced characters talking like hardened black ops types, it would sound... disjointed... at best. God forbid you portray young people accurately in a game about a ragtag bunch of greenhorns with zero experience... Injdeed I kind of expected the kind of dialogue we got when I heard that Ryder was going to be a young hero so it wasn't so much of a shock to me whereas I expected Shep to have a more mature dialogue because they were in the military and also a well established officer considering they carried the rank of Commander which was kind of a giveaway really. Whereas in reality Ryder was kind of at best an ensign or Junior Lieutenant in truth albeit a very talented one. Either way for me it worked well enough to sell the story and premise and I'm glad I bought the game as I thoroughly enjoy playing it.

All things considered, I wouldn't mind Scott using some military slang, albeit as a "old habits die hard" thing more than regularly. And even then, things like Deuce kit, Jody boy, Oh-Dark-Thirty, Balls Watch, etc. Not going full "This is Arse 1 to Arse 2, requesting high altitude JDAM CAS prior to HALO to AO, over." (To translate, he's requesting some fighter bomber to drop guided bombs before they do a high altitude low opening parachute jump into an area of operations - and I probably got it wrong somehow. Arse callsigns brought to you by Vietcong the video game, god'amn classic.) Do we have any boots on the ground? In case they do show something. Well, better have fast movers on station, preferably with precision munitions. Trolls are bound to have foot-mobiles in the area. Since no one from here is going there it will probably be the same questions again: talk about Shepard/ Garrus/ Tali etcetera... for their sanity i hope not. I like your thinking - Rebellions are built on hope!

I bet people would still shit all over the character if he was a bit more hardened though, sadly.

Yup, I enjoyed that particular bit of character growth. Of course if you've only played around ten hours on the preview you'd miss out on that, but endlessly moan anyway.

Ryder twis were recruits. ME1 Ahsley probably was higher up in the chain of command. yeah that's what I mean they were relatively new recruits so at best were at ensign/junior Lieutenant level at best whereas Ash was moer of a senior lieutenant/Lieutenant Commander of course in ME3 so was really only a rank or 2 below Shepard so was in a position to act as a first officer if need be should anything happen to Shep although perhaps not in overall command Ash in ME1 is a Gunnery Chief. It's an Alliance-specific rank, though considering she's with Alliance Marines, it could be similar to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) of the USMC. Ensign/Lieutenant Junior Grade are US Navy's O-1 and O-2 (Officer) equal to 2LT and 1LT in the Army and Marine Corps. The Navy's rank of Lieutenant is actually correspondent to other branches Captain rank, while Navy's Captain would be on par with a Colonel in other branches. Shepard is a Commander, or Lieutenant Colonel throughout the game. Ashley by ME3 is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, which is ironic, considering Gunnery Chief sounds more Marine-like. This puts her one rank below Shepard in Alliance chain of command, at rank equal to Major. (Kaidan gets the promotion from Lieutenant to Major, in those exact words) All in all, Ashley would be an E-7 or thereabouts, jumping eight or so ranks. Still, she's quite above Ryders who aren't even in command of a squad far as I can tell. Neither Sara nor Scott probably made it past E-4 (Corporal/Specialist/Petty Officer 3rd Class in USMC/US Army/USN respectively) before the Initiative left the Milky Way. Sheesh, I should probably stop doing these comparisons since the ranks in ME often are chosen to sound cool, not because they make sense - see GyCH Williams becoming a LtCdr.

The only real problem I had with the writing, and I wouldn't really even call it a problem, is that I had a really hard time getting used to playing a 22-year-old instead of a 35-year-old. That's a huge difference in life experience, and it should show. And it did show, but I went from combat veteran to green youngster who'd kind of had weapons training. All that to say that I don't know if the writing was necessarily weak, or just a product of having to write a much younger character. I wish I was 22 years old again. I wish I was 35 again. I just treated Ryders as my kids. I felt like Ellen Ryder watching over them. I felt dialogue was immature only once during PeeBee quest when she gave me directions that sounded like something from Dora the Explorer, something like Good thing we have our own reprogrammed droid! Overall, I like the upbeat style, and the swearing actually felt funny unlike the DA3. But DA3, I gave up on it, after the stronghold quest it's just too boring for a second run. Andromeda does not leave you hanging like that imo.

Damn few ranking systems actually are explained and make sense just sort of thrown together.

Should be harmless enough for the question to potentially not breach NDA. I'll leave actually asking it for people more familiar with how the NDA might work. Not getting anyone in trouble, nu-uh.

Shepard is already a seasoned 30 year old LT. Apart from Tali in ME1 everyone is very experienced, even Garrus have been on his job for some time. So yes it was kinda funny how no one seems to give a shit to what Scott said in my game during those briefings, made it all the more nice when he starts to control Remant ships with his mind without SAM. Like he is finally filling his father's shoes. Which I think is incredibly fitting. Us young folks don't generally respect someone because of a title. No, they have to earn that respect, and Ryder does earn the respect of his/her crew as you advance in the game. What people call "bad writing" is actually "this writing doesn't suit my tastes" and they refuse to see that. Nah, it's bad writing, Ryder is immediately treated like the second coming by the general populous and given massive power and responsibility with zero oversight on their first day. The whole Pathfinder concept is a giant plot hole made even more jarring by the inexperience and attitude of the Ryder character. Even Shepard considered being given command of the Normandy really out of left field, the idea that they would send 'that' crew out unaccompanied in the Tempest is just incredulous. Ryder's youth isn't the issue, loads of games, TV series and movies work just fine with young protagonists when they handle them in a more convincing manner.

Alas, no. Apparently one place we don't have Bio fans is in Quebec. There are lots of BioWare fans in Montreal, just none of them are on BSN it seems. Or there are Bioware fans on BSN from Montreal, but they are just stuck at work and can't go I went to the Montreal Comic Con yesterday with some friends. Was kind of disappointed there was no Bioware booth like in past years. I always liked meeting the devs and talking Mass Effect/Dragon Age with them. Meanwhile, Warner Bros and PlayStation had massive booths with stations to play their latest games. All EA had was one small booth advertising play testing sessions for Bioware and EA Motive. I would have loved to have a few PCs setup with some MEA MP! Hopefully the panel has some goodies for fans craving a Mass Effect fix.
