Some good info in this IGN article. Horizon Zero Dawn PC Port Analysis : www.ign.com/articles/horizon-zero-dawn-pc-port-analysisConclusionHorizon Zero Dawn is a very beautiful game, and it arrives on PC in a version which allows for higher framerates, arbitrary resolution rendering, 21:9 aspect ratio support and a field of view adjustment option. It also features some graphics settings and improvements which significantly enhance its appearance compared to the console original, such as dynamic foliage and the “Model Quality” option. The controls have also been ported to keyboard and mouse very competently, largely making the game feel like a native PC action Adventure/RPG when played with this input option.conclusion HZD Gameplay at Native 4k Resolution with the “Ultimate Quality” Preset. However, getting good performance out of HZD is more involved and finicky than perhaps it should be – with several in-game options being actively detrimental to performance or perceived smoothness in non-obvious ways, and an unusually high load being placed on the PCIe bus. While the two games are of course substantially different in their load profiles, it is hard not to compare this port to the very recently released Death Stranding, which is free of these more obscure performance concerns and offers DLSS 2.0 for significantly better image stability at lower GPU performance requirements. Overall, if all you want is 60 FPS and you have a relatively recent system and a sufficiently fast GPU for your target resolution, that should be easy enough to achieve as long as you take note of the settings and configuration requirements I pointed out in the performance deep dive section. However, chasing consistent very high framerates above that (e.g. 120 FPS) seems like a fool’s errand even on top-end hardware. Ultimately the game is a visual spectacle and the gameplay is not particularly fast-paced, so the severe sacrifices in graphics necessary to achieve even relatively consistent 120 FPS do not appear to be worth it in this case.

Lol, lot of assumptions flying around in here for a two-minute trailer. Aloy's narration is a conceit of the marketing. I wouldn't infer anything concrete about the plot or character from it. But even if that dialogue comes directly from the game, which is really doubtful, we have no idea what she might see or learn in the course of a 50-60 hour adventure that would prompt her to say it. Heck, the trailer for the original game had little to no dialogue that actually made it into the final product.

I'm running with a 1080Ti & a 1440p GSync monitor so I'm not that worried, but it is good to know if there's some detrimental settings to watch out for. Ingame frame limiter, ingame Vsync and Borderless Windowed. The usual suspects in every game for the past years. First things I turn off. I am surprised by the claim it runs noticeably better if the GPU is in the PCIE x16. Even the 2080Ti can't completely saturate the x8, so I wonder what shenanigans are going on here. I have tested my 1080Ti in both the PCIE x16 and x8 and there was no difference really. Might test it again just to see if HZD is different.

Updating the Latest Video Drivers Please ensure you're using the latest graphics drivers available for your card. Older drivers may cause graphical glitches or stability issues:
NVIDIA: 451.67 AMD: 20.7.2 (“Optional” / non-WHQL) or newer
Look out for any new drivers released around launch that may offer further benefits for Horizon Zero Dawn on PC.
Initial Shader Compilation In order to improve performance during play, we’ve implemented a one-time initial shader compilation before the game starts for the first time. This can take an average of 10-15 minutes for most systems to complete. Once it’s completed, you won’t have to do it again unless you make a significant hardware change or update your video drivers. We’re looking into ways to further optimize this process.
Known Issues Anisotropic Filtering settings are not working. This is a high priority issue for us to resolve.
Some systems may experience a brief stutter during general world traversal, UI updates, quest updates, or camera swaps in cutscenes. This is a high priority issue for us to investigate.
Some animations are designed to only refresh at 30fps even if the game is running at a much higher frame rate. We are exploring how we can improve this with a future update.
Shader Compilation process does not properly verify remaining storage space on user PC and can result in crashes if the user’s storage drive is low on space (compilation process requires additional ~2GB storage space).

I'm not going to update the Nvidia Drivers yet. I'll see how the game performs. If it stutters, etc, then I'll update. Having read the graphic issues, I'm unlikely to put it on Ultra settings nor go for 120 fps. One thing is certain though. I'll be zzzZZZzzz when the game goes live. So it'll be a 8th August launch on my end, not 7th.

Seems to be a half baked port. Too bad. Even stable 50 FPS at 1440p Ultra would be a pipe dream. I am definitely lowering Reflections and Clouds as much as visually acceptable.
It seems once again G-sync would be coming to the rescue 💖

It seems once again G-sync would be coming to the rescue 💖 Consoles are, imo, stagnant cookie baked PCs that do not progress as their cousins. Hence, any games written for them are restricted / constraint by the hardware baked into them. The devs were originally going for a 60 fps, etc but had to pull it down to the console required 30. They have a lot of reprogramming to do for the port. They'll probably get it right with updates. Despite all the reported issues, I've to say I'm most curious as to how it would do on my PC.

So I just watched the first hour PT of the PC version by a streamer I often viewed; Sony gave him the key to unlock the game. He set it to ultra and it seems to run fine. Not going to take that as a; it'll do fine at my end. I might just stay up late to see if it'll run just as well on my PC.

Define "fine" 😜 If a 3 year old game doesn't run at 80+FPS on almost all Ultra settings at 1440p with minimal frame time issues, especially when it doesn't use obvious "future proof" settings - then it's not fine in my book. I am sure the game will run okish on all Ultra 1080p, maybe around 50ish FPS if you rock a 1080Ti or better. And it will be a decent experience, especially with some Adaptive sync monitor. But it really should perform far above that.

Today is the day I have a new game to play But I might have to send a mayday Because of 15 minutes of delay I really don't get that shader compiling thing. Does it offer any advantage to do that at installation?

Today is the day I have a new game to play But I might have to send a mayday Because of 15 minutes of delay I really don't get that shader compiling thing. Does it offer any advantage to do that at installation? It's for helping the game work smoother on your hardware as you probably know. The good news is that the process runs once... sorta. The bad news is it will have to run again if you update the GPU drivers or change the GPU. Some games do it during installation, some do it when you launch them for the first time. Depends how they are coded.

Well outside of GW2 with d912pxy, but it does it "live" (shaders compiled when required the first time) and it doesn't happen without the mod.
