I just purchased Horizon Zero Dawn off of Steam due to it being on sale for 40% off. Any tips or things I should know going into the game? Almost every loot you get from machines and animals is used to trade for armors, weapons, tools and upgrades, so maybe you want to save one or two inventory slots for each item. So upgrade your inventory quickly.

Anyone playing it on a GTX960 with 2GB VRAM? Steam sale will be starting today but I have my doubts about being able to run it decently.

I would highly suggest you re-map the key bindings to something that you are familiar and comfortable with. Personally I have never ever used the 'Default" W A S D key bindings....I have always remapped the all the keys to things that for me are functional and easy to use.
For example I used the directional arrows for Movement, Number Pad 0 for HUD or Tactical Displays, F9 for Quick Save, F10 for Quick Load, TAB for Map, Page Up and Page down for Looking Up/Down, Delete for 'Reload', Mouse Wheel up/down for switching weapons etc. ENTER for Interaction. If I am needing to use a Vehicle or Mount, I use the Number Pad on the right side with my left hand so I can continue to control the mouse with my right. Basically whatever I am doing, I try to keep my hands as close together as possible during any point in the game so that I don't have to take my hands off any keys or mouse to reach across the left side of the keyboard and leave my character motionless, defenseless or inactive.
Try this for yourself and see how it feels.

I just purchased Horizon Zero Dawn off of Steam due to it being on sale for 40% off. Any tips or things I should know going into the game? This isn't a recommendation exactly, but if you're having trouble against the biggest machines later in the game then a decent Blast Sling equipped with a couple of high-quality Damage modifications will blow the shit out of pretty much anything much quicker than trying to engage it by going after its elemental weaknesses, at the cost of eating a lot of parts for ammo. That said, targeting elemental weaknesses is what makes the fights tense and interesting, and it can be really powerful in its own right. Shooting fire/cold arrows from stealth at a couple of exposed explosive cannisters on the backs of machines grazing together can bring a whole herd down without a fight at the cost of just two or three easily crafted arrows, and causing an electrical explosion by targeting some machine's exposed coils will stun every machine nearby, leaving them open for going after other weaknesses and AOE effects. Chain reactions like that are a great way to thin the numbers and soften everything before a big fight. At the same time, don't expect elemental explosions to be as easy to trigger in normal gameplay as they are in tutorial scenarios, at least on higher difficulties. A lot of vulnerable parts will be protected by armor plating you'll have to shoot off before you can get to them, which just isn't always worth it compared to other, simpler strategies. And this isn't for everyone, but I enjoy Aloy's bow-and-arrow gameplay way better without crosshairs. It's hard at first, but eventually you'll get a sense for it and hit fairly consistently and accurately, and every single shot will genuinely be a tiny thrill throughout the entire game, which can't be said for shooting with the crosshair. And doing target practice with Watcher eyeballs in the beginning region is a great way to start off. They're big enough to be hittable, move fast enough that you have to work for it and develop good instincts, and usually kill the things outright with a bullseye in a very satisfying way while you slowly collect a decent pile of parts for crafting ammunition. And because they're so aggressive and acrobatic and come in packs you'll be dodging every moment you're not aiming, so it's good practice for learning general controls and environmental awareness as well which will be really useful later on.

I just purchased Horizon Zero Dawn off of Steam due to it being on sale for 40% off. Any tips or things I should know going into the game? I think the most obvious one is to have fun. Try and do all the Cauldrons if you can as they open up opportunities t ohack the machines which you migh tfind helpful if you'e rdealin gwith a lot of them. I often find hackin on eor 2 machines and watching them take on their fellows quite satisfying. If you like Tomb Raider type games then you certainly will enjoy this. Another tip tha tcan be helpfful is t otry and disarm the machines that attack you by hitting there weapons as sometimes you can pick them up snd use them yourself and whilst Aloy quite oftem moves slower when carrying a heav yweapon they often pack quite a punch and can help you save ammo for your own weapons if ammo is tight and you don' t have the resources to make more

Yeah, to have fun is good advice. Haha. The one thing I'll add is that the ropecaster is your friend. Upgrade it and it will get you out of any jam.

Yeah the rope and trip casters aer good once you've figured out how to use them they can do a fair bit of damage. Been thinking of starting a new playthrough of it myself recently. Thankfully each of the weaopns have tutorials which can help you get the most out of them.

Sadly, I can't play any games until I get my new PC built and up and running...And it's been delayed another week because I've had to order to new PSU. I didn't realize that my old motherboard and PSU (the 850 P2 with the Phoenix SLI) only had 1 CPU Power Connector; I've never come across any board or CPU that required two. And I know EVGA always gives you waaaay more cables than you actually need....But over the years my parents have done a "Great Purge" and thrown out odds n' ends, 'junk' etc.....And I guess the unused PC cables went with it.
SO....I've had to upgrade, adn I've chosen the 1000 Watt P2 80+ Plantinum from EVGA. The only other brand I might have considered was Seasonic, but their 1000 Watt PSU was as much as EVGA's 1200 Watt which is $500 + CAD, so I stuck with EVGA. I'm sure 1000 Watts will be mroe than enough. Plus it's the PSU I've been eyeing for at least a year or two, so Im happy.
I wasn't expecting to have to spend more money though.

Not just for your arrows but because they also happen to be the main currency in the game as well. As you'll need to have a pretty decent bank of shards to handle both. Thankfully you can carry an infinite amount of shards but other inventory you have to be careful with given you only have so many inventory slots.

My guess is that they want more people to buy it on PlayStation to get people into that ecosystem. That way they get the percentage per sale and potential of people joining PS+.

Sony is playing catch-up to Microsoft integrating the PC into their Xbox gaming experience. That's what they are doing.

I don't think you can compare the two approaches that easily for there is a much different management culture in the two companies and the approaches they have been taking. Its more about the way Sony is seeing the situation over what the situation really is or how it is working out. I am not saying that is how the market does react or how people are actually going to treat the product, but it boils down to have the top leadership see things and what I have seen over the last couple of years with Sony they seem to believe the old methods are best. The purchase of Nixxes might signal some minor directional changes, but right now I am skeptical.

Hey, I don't mind having to wait.....If I know it's 98% a sure thing (as you said given the popularity of HZD on Steam).....If they can pretty much guarentee that it WILL come to PC, even if it's three years away, I don't mind the wait.....As long as it comes out eventually-- and with a PC-Enhanced Complete Edition like they did for HZD. That would be gnarly!

Yeah that's my guess as well we mustn't forget that so PS is always likely to come first in isnstances like this. I think it will cfome to PC eventually the fact that HZD is very popular on Steam kind of gives that away but it's likely we'll always have t owait for it and the sales t odrop off on PS first before they consider the idea. Guerrilla is owned by Sony after all whic his anothe rbit of a giveawa yas to wh ythey'd prioritise such a move. Not to mention that I do think the HFW probably counts as a system seller. It's gonna be one of the early games that really sues the potential of PS5 (maybe next to Ratched and Clank but that's very different in style, so HFW may attract a different audience).
Right now, Sony may not need a system seller since the consoles are selling way quicker than they can produce them but that will change (and surely Sony didn't plan for this particular situation), so I am fairly certain they'll keep it on the PS for quite a while.
But like Energizer Bunny, I don't mind waiting either. I am also very sure they'll port it eventually and if I play it in 2024, that's fine by me as well. Just have to avoid spoilers, that's my main concern.
