Anybody else feel like Fatal Inheritance side quest was poorly done? YES! Sort of slapdsh and it stands out because it's so wonky. The "twist" literally appears out of nowhere. WTF were you, dude, when I was fighting all those bots? Fortunately, it's the only quest I've found so far that's wonky. Everything else seems polished. No. What I actually meant was... Signal from the barn. Even though you can pry doors open on other quests, you can't pry basic barn doors open. So then I attempt to get in by climbing into the second floor windows. There is a tree trunk that goes up to some wooden think that leads directly to the window. Can I jump it? No. Can I grab a grabby thing nearby and swing in? Nope. So, I finally give up after probably 20 minutes of trying to get in the stupid barn and go back to the house. Someone yelling-ph, some lady locked in the larder. Oh? What was that? I get her out by PRYING THE DAMN DOOR OPEN. Then I get "a key" from a completely bland corpse that I magically know is the chaplain or some such, even though his clothes were just like everyone else's clothes. Only THEN can I get in the barn. I meant the Tear Arrow, sorry. Use it the first time, it really screws them up, can even take like 50% of their HP. Then I guess there are no more components to tear off, so it becomes useless.

Ah yeah Tear arrows sole focus is to tear away all the armor and after that it just does barely any damage. Ah yeah, Tear arrow is all about tearing away the armor on opponents and after that it's mostly pointless to use, might even be better to use the basic hunter arrows or the pretty decent hardpoint arrows

Yeah, those are only good for a few shots, mostly with something like a Thunderjaw where you just want to knock some of their guns off rather than raw damage.

Anyway, started a new playthrough on Saturday and yesterday I got my first Tallneck. Ah, beating the machines is as satisfying as I remember, and the constantly respawning machine herds are just as annoying when I'm just trying to get to places.

I meant the Tear Arrow, sorry. Use it the first time, it really screws them up, can even take like 50% of their HP. Then I guess there are no more components to tear off, so it becomes useless. Huh. The weapon I use most often is the Shadow Sharpshot Bow, both for sniping with the high damage arrow and with tear arrows. I also have it buffed way up with Handling and Tear. Tear is great for these situations: Shell-Walker: Remove its cargo shell without damaging it, yielding more loot (such as it is). Also remove it's weapon and shield arms. Usually takes me 3 or 4 hits, sometimes more if there are a lot of them and they pick up their cargo canister again. Snapmaws: They have tons of armor, easier to take down if you remove it with tear. On the other hand, if you have a lot of Blaze-based ammo, its easier to just burn them until they die. But I'm chronically short of Blaze, so Tear + damage is my secondary. Stalkers: Tear is absolutely essential for these invisible stealthy panther machines. I wait until they turn visible (about once a minute) and tear their stealth device off of them. Level the playing field. Only takes one shot per Stalker, though. Corrupters: remove their heavy weapon. 1 to 2 shots is enough. Stormbird: If you don't have the Shadow Ropecaster, the only way to ground this giant raptor is to tear off all it's flight engines on it's wings. Takes me 6 to 8 hits to ground them, with a lot of scrambling and dodging while it's aggro. Thunderjaws: Already mentioned, got to remove their disc and automatic weapons. I think I used 10 Tear arrows on the last one I fought.

Now I look forward to Glinthawks attacking me. Yeah, eat some rope, you dirty bird! Get the Shadow Ropecaster as soon as you can. Trust me, you'll need it.

I think I used 10 Tear arrows on the last one I fought. Additionally, with Stormbirds once you remove the Lightning gun they are pretty much toothless, being limited to melee and the easily telegraphed and dodged air blast attack. I usually don't even bother with the engines because of this. Then you have Deathbringers which are bristling with guns to knock off and use against them. Ravagers are always worth at least one Tearblast arrow for their cannon. Another bonus is if you take all the guns off the Thunderjaw they'll do nothing but charge in for melee, the patterns of which are easy to predict and avoid (and usually expose the machine core on the side). They also provide stagger/knockdown. This is pretty useful against charging machines or high level humanoids like Helius. Tearblast arrows become a lifesaver on the highest difficulty where ranged attacks can end you in one or two hits.

I usually don't even bother with the engines because of this. I must suck at observation then, because I've died many times to Stormbird dive attacks. I always seem to be looking the wrong way while I'm scrambling and the <!> attack warning symbol is always behind me.

So, I should be finishing the game tomorrow evening, probably around level 40.
I think I just finished the mission before the final mission.
Anyway. I kinda wish dragon age and horizon zero Dawn would have a baby
All the threads about how DA should be like TW3 and this game just blows it out of the water in all ways but branching story line/dialogue choices/ romance options.
Which sadly, kills potential replayability, but man. It sure is a good single ride.
Suppose I'll finish my review tomorrow upon completion.
PS: Queens Gambit. I died a LOT. Then a combo of luck and learning by trial and error brought the Thunderjaw down in under 3 Minutes. Felt pretty darn proud to loot it's corpse

So this is where I differ most heavily from Aloy I adore Nil. She thinks he's creepy. She seems to have a thing for Varl. Who was such a non entity to me I almost forgot who he was. Also. A boring Nora? Come on. You're an atheist, Aloy. Still working on the end of the game.

Non spoiler, Papa: I just finished and hot damn. Difficult final battle followed by a couple punches to the feelz. Gotta say I shed a couple tears. How amazing that they bound an origin story "who is my mother" so tightly to a save the world story. Now I know why there is an expansion. Because
Helllloooo? GAIA still ain't on!
Edit ADD: bejeebus! I disliked Sylens all along (literally nicknamed him the "dick Jedi" on the spot. WTF is he doing with Hades in a lamp playing with Titans?
I don't even know where to begin. This was amazeballs from start to finish. Aloy was a way better stand alone adventurer story than Geralt-- I never felt I was her. But I could empathize/sympathize so strongly that I couldn't help but be frustrated with her. Grieve with her. Even occasionally laugh with her. The story is compelling. The world reflected events happening- like being able to update Rost on all your adventures by visiting home. Towns being locked to you at the start, then opened, then locked again. All of the side quests have connections to either the world, so you learn about it, or ties into the plot in unexpected ways. (Okay, i can think of a few exceptions, but they were exceptions, not the rule.) There were two instances where I was having a good ol chatty cut scene and we were suddenly attacked- like a mini war zone, people getting sniped. A need for gathering and crafting that is immersive. There was more than one path to get to a lot of places- trust me, I couldn't find the proper climb holds half the time and jumped my way to places HAHA The combat mechanics are excellent. REPEAT. EXCELLENT. And I don't even like battle stuff-- most of the time when battle happens in a game, it's the trial I must pass to get to the good stuff. Bad guys are usually just HP doors to the story. But these were actual challenges. I HAD to look at the surroundings. I HAD to think. I HAD to scan them to find weak spots. I HAD to consider which one or FOUR of my stockpile of weapons would do the job. I felt proud of myself when I killed the difficult thing, instead of just going "ugh, finally. Boredom of button mashing can finally end." The weapons allow for near anything you could want. Tie them down, trip them up, bomb them, arrow to the face. Proximity traps. From the back of a mount-- the mount self directs (mostly successfully) and it's not awkward. Yeah, occasionally some dumb AI. But for the most part, I'm concentrating super hard. Stealth, Sprint, swim, climb, leap, slide, hide . Occasionally there were non intuitive puzzles that made me want to smack my head in a wall, but for the most part, they were the kind I could handle. Investigate surroundings, see if you can interact, get to teh place in alternative path. But back to the story. People died I didn't think would die. People I did think would die (by my hands) sometimes didn't. Like that dick kid who scarred your face. Mocked you at th elodge before the Proving. Bast. And then he tried to help protect the escape path with the girl. Mild redemption. HE DIES. And I'm like WAIT. That hurts my feelz. But in a way, he was a rival. I dunno. It was just unexpected. I spared Olin because of his wife and kids-- but then again, I'd always assumed he was a dumb pawn, so I'd never really felt any rage at him. AND NIL. FUCKING ADORED HIM. And then he invites you someplace- TO KILL HIM. Not that I expected a date but you could have blew me over, I was so thrown.
Music: Excellent. So much of the time it made me ache with wistfulness that made me "want to go home." The Chanting stuff at festivals and churches were unique. Reminded me of the music singing in Xena Warrior Princess. I wasn't buried in Codex. Beautiful vistas, of course. Lovely Day/night and weather cycle.

I watched the PT on Twitch and enjoyed the story very much. No replay value but the story is really gripping. I seriously want to throttle one char's neck. The idiot who set off the whole thing, Ted, then he FU Apollo and killed everyone in the team. wtf. I seriously wouldn't have included him in the team. What the hell were they thinking of? How did he even pass the medical evaluation? Or did he not even take it at all and they just waved him a pass because he shelled out the money for the project. The team even knew he was unstable and that Elisabet was the only one who could keep him in check. After she was gone, not a single one of them thought of keeping a closer eye on him.
I don't see how Aloy could get GAIA to start. If she found some educational files, she could start learning but that would take a few years. Sylens is tech savvy because of Hades or whatever it was that possessed Hades. There can't be many people like him but I could be wrong.

Yes, I realized that it lacked replayability right off the bat. Sometimes I re read a book i like, but a book takes me a day to read. Sometimes only about 6 hours This vid game took ---hmmmm--- I'm going to call it 64 hours. I think you're getting Ted and Travis mixed up. Travis is the one who made Hades, kept a horrible porn collection, and seemed to romantasize extinction. I was totally setting him up to be the guy that went traitor at the end, especially considering his being the actual creator of Hades. But for Ted to do it seems way out of...character? There were no clues that he'd think such a way. He was an ass, though. They were all locked up. They wouldn't have been able to reverse the deletion. And he killed them.

No, I was referring to Ted Faro, founder of Faro Automated Solutions. He made the decision to branch his company into military robots, the one who conceived the Chariot robots concept, giving them the ability to adapt and self replicate. Elisabet resigned because of this.
When humanity was wiped out, he blamed himself and instead of having faith in Elisabet and the ZD team that they knew what would be best for humanity that would come after them, he spiraled into a guilt trip and decided he himself knew better; just like he thought he knew what's best for his company, etc. The humans coming after them must be innocent, not stained. He killed the Apollo program and the ZD team, leaving the descendants bereft of the knowledge/culture of the old world and the mistakes their forebears had done.
He FU humans twice over. That's why I want to throttle him. I hope he had a miserable end.

There were two instances where I was having a good ol chatty cut scene and we were suddenly attacked- like a mini war zone, people getting sniped.
Think you manage to say pretty much the same things I felt when I completed the game back in march. Game also get bonus points for how new information is fed to you. Learning more and more about the world and what happened before kinda transform the world around you and lets you look at it a bit different than before and I just looooooooove games that utilize that. No need for massive graphical changes, just work on the perspective can be that much more awesome.

Hunter's Lodge? That has "added for replayability" written all over it. You are past where I'm at (I just arrived at Sunfall for the first time), so I'll have to skip your final review, but cheers on the completion! Oh really? I hadn't touched that quest. It appeared to be "be good at killing things different ways." Is it more than that? It's not always kill, but pretty much, that's all it is. It's pure achievements -- although I haven't been accepted into the Lodge at Meridian myself, so I don't know if any side-quests are unlocked once you are accepted. Achievements and timed trials are the bread&butter of replayability adds for most games. Gives you something to do -- as a drop-in kind of activity -- that is still in the game world, even if there's no or not much story involved. Maybe "extended play" or "I don't want to leave this beautiful world yet play" would be better terms than replay.

Non spoiler, Papa: I just finished and hot damn. utiful vistas, of course. Lovely Day/night and weather cycle. Am I the only one who felt guilty about killing the machines after finding out they were there to help the Earth regain it's footing?

Am I the only one who felt guilty about killing the machines after finding out they were there to help the Earth regain it's footing? Ditto. It's unfortunate they were corrupted by Hades or rather the Faro A.I. Even without the corruption, without GAIA's presence to maintain them, they would eventually run rogue.

A good example of what I meant when I said new info changes how I view the world. Did sigh and think about how differently I thought of the machines now compared to much earlier. No longer enemies, just unfortunate obstacles.

Which sadly, kills potential replayability, but man. It sure is a good single ride. Hunter's Lodge? That has "added for replayability" written all over it. You are past where I'm at (I just arrived at Sunfall for the first time), so I'll have to skip your final review, but cheers on the completion! They could, unless you got all blazing suns on all of them during the first playthrough like I did. But that's just the completionist in me. I'm actually replaying now though, with the distance of a couple months since I finished my first playthrough, and I'm surprisingly into it again. This gameplay is just fun.
