Ugh, some of the hunting trials are a complete nightmare (especially the stealth ones). Thankfully, I only need two more Blazing Suns from there, but I'm going to have to leave it until I get some better gear. There's only so many times you can get body slammed by Watchers and deplete your entire stock of health potions before you end up rage-quitting. (Especially when you remember you're playing on Normal, which means it shouldn't really be this difficult, should it?) I totally agree with you it's just impossible ( at least for me ) to make it in time while you're in stealth mode the way i see it that trial doesn't make any sense whatsoever. It should be something like when the other machines do not see you while you're doing a stealth trial that would mean a blazing sun and that there was no time limit or something like that.

Yeah, the only way I managed to complete the Stalker trial was lob grenades, bombs and wail on everything with a spear. Made it even funnier when the Keeper congratulated me for my use of "stealth", consider you could still hear things exploding in the background. Truly, I mastered the art of the ninja.

Maybe you guys need to watch a YouTube video to see how to Git Gud approach it more successfully. I like the Trials, but I totally understand why some might not.

I breath a sigh of relief every time I get my blazing sun from the stealth trials.
It gets to a point where it isn’t even that fun, yet I must complete it...

The stealth trials are my favorite, though I like them all. (I like the atmosphere and the whispering hunter. Stalkers and shell-walkers are two of my favorite machines.) The override/control trials are pretty fun and dramatic. I think they did a good job making them all unique, in terms of approach and gameplay. They really do emphasize different tactics. If you guys don’t like the stealth trials, have you played TFW? The trials in TFW were on another level, if you’re actually looking to set the course record each time. I didn't find it particularly enjoyable, unlike the Lodge Trials. I don’t think I played the Banuk Trials again after nabbing the trophy.

The two/three times i did the Stealth trials most of the time i was not even in stealth mode it was mostly just hack and slash with my spear to make it in time and that gave me my Blazing sun. And the first time i did the Chieftain Trial in TFW i did it in 1 min and 20 sec ( i'm not entirely sure though i have to verify this ).

Not on UH, then? 😉 I've done that Chieftain Trial twice (plus several 2nd place finishes), and I believe it always took me in the neighborhood of 3 minutes with fully upgraded weapons and gear. Those are some durable machines. The humorous part about those 2nd place finishes I mentioned is that I missed the mark by 1 and 2 seconds, respectively. I made mistakes in the first section that wasted time. I came up one second short, and was annoyed. I played again and tied the target score. To my greater annoyance, this was still good for "second place". With controlled fury, I kicked those machine asses the next time, bettering the score by over a full minute. For the stealth trials, I employ stealth for all but the stalkers. (The quiet sprinting skill is critical.) The shellwalkers sometimes catch me stealing, sometimes not. For the stalkers, I lure them out and destroy them. Pretty straight forward.

Maybe you guys need to watch a YouTube video to see how to Git Gud approach it more successfully. I like the Trials, but I totally understand why some might not. Are there any videos from post-patch? Most videos I've seen only show the old method, where there were 3 crates in one location, which has now been patched out. Now there are only two crates, on opposite ends of the area, while the remaining two must be taken from Shellwalkers. Meaning that there is no way you can do it in under 1:05 seconds without resorting to a smash-and-grab method, rather than stealth as these trials were supposed to be about. Really not sure what the devs were thinking by changing this, unless they hate us all personally? Increasing the difficulty was fine, but why seemingly remove the stealth component, since it's required that you break stealth to get the last two crates? (Also I'm at Level 56, with nearly maxed skills, endgame gear and this trial is still a bleedin' chore)

(Also I'm at Level 56, with nearly maxed skills, endgame gear and this trial is still a bleedin' chore) I'm not sure. I sprint to the first crates (the middle cluster), get all I can, and then sprint to the second batch (to the left/south of the first). I stay unseen as long as possible so all hell doesn't break loose, but I'm not really concerned about it. Smash and grab, or rather "Tearblast and Grab", doesn't bother me. There's a certain unpredictable element to it, since the world is alive and the shellwalkers may or may not have the stuff you need on their backs. Sometimes, sprinting in, tear-blasting, and sprinting out is as stealthy as can be managed.

This is my next game to play since I just finished God of War. Hopefully it's at least half as good! I'd be shocked if you don't like it a lot. It's beautiful, polished, very well acted, has great gameplay and a good, multilayered story. It deserves all the praise it has received. You'll have to let us know what you think.

Doubt anything needs to be in spoiler tags at this point, but oh well. lol I'm just after the proving and the game is pretty cool so far. Positives: 1. Visually beautiful 2. Weapons/Crafting system. Weapons are pretty cool (at least the ones I current have: bow, sling, tripcaster) 3. Stealth. So far this is my most enjoyable way to kill enemies. Whistle, stealth kill lol. Just unlocked a kill from above skill, can't wait to use it. 4. Exploration of ruins (I really hope there's a lot more of exploring the metal world and listening/reading the data logs. That's been really enjoyable. 5. The Focus. Love it. lol Negatives so far are: 1. They killed the only interesting characters off already (rost, bast, and vala) 2. The damn rain... it rains every 2 minutes it feels like! wtf lol. And it washes out the color and just makes the game look weird. 3. Crafting ingredients every 10 feet... I'll never finish the game at this rate lol. I constantly stop to pick stuff up.

Positives 1. agreed this is one of the most beautiful games i have played on console. 2. agreed. 3. same here i also love stealth in this game it's a lot of fun. but it doesn't work with the bigger machines though they're a little harder to kill it's not whistle and push the R1 button. 4. agreed. 5. agreed one thing though i wish Aloy walked a little faster when she activates her focus. Negatives. 1. i agree with Rost and Vala i just don't like bully's so i don't mind so much that Bast is no longer part of HZD. 2. i don't mind the rain but that's maybe because i just love the rain. it will stop raining every 2 minutes eventually when you're further in the game.
i don't know if you also have TFW than i think you would probably also don't like that it's snowing every 2 minutes over there. 3. yes that is true at the beginning but once you have the amount you want it's not such a chore anymore.

Yeah the focus does make you walk pretty slow and I also wish it would display more data after the little green circle that identifies the object completes. You can't always see the weak points to scan them and such. But the device is just so cool, so I love it regardless lol. Well, I liked bast because I was very much looking forward to beating him and rubbing his face in it for most of the game. But they killed your rival off very early. And I was hoping Vala was gonna become her bff. haha Good to hear about the rain! I love rain irl too, but it makes the game look weird I think. What's TFW?

You can wait it's not really necessary to purchase it already and you also have to be a pretty high level Aloy to finish it the first time but it's definitely worth it. And as Element Zero already said i just cannot believe that you would dislike this amazing game.

I'll never finish the game at this rate lol. I constantly stop to pick stuff up. Positives: 1. Agreed, this is the game that convinced me to go back to Playstation again (after skipping the PS3 entirely) 2. The crafting system is very intuitive and weapons are a lot of fun. 3. I love stealth runs, so I'm glad that it's a viable playstyle in HZD. 4. Agreed, I love exploring the ruins. My only (minor) complaint is that I wish they expanded on some of the city ruins more. Would have loved to have explored some flooded/collapsed subways like in Fallout or run across a few makeshift bunkers from doomed would-be survivors. They could even have had one of the cities partially rebuilt by a tribe hoping to reoccupy it, since not everyone shares the Nora's taboos about the "metal world". Stuff like that would be nice to see in a sequel. 5. Someone needs to invent the Focus already, I kinda want one. Elon Musk, you busy? Negatives: 1. I wish we'd gotten more with Rost (he'd be an excellent protagonist for a prequel). I really liked Vala and I feel like Bast could have had some potential, either as a bitter rival that ends up betraying everyone, or becoming our staunchest supporter after a redemption arc. (Sorta like Butch in Fallout 3, who has a similar turnaround from childhood bully to potential companion). Also remember to check out Rost's grave after every main story mission, Aloy has new dialogue where she relates her progress to him.
2. Yeah, the rain always seems to kick in just when I'm about to fight something and could use the visibility. 3. Like Inquisition, Fallout and Skyrim, I'm constantly having to juggle a full inventory because I can't see resources/scrap on the ground and not pick it up. For the HOARD!

Oh yeah, or having bast redeem himself would have been great. Oh well, here's hoping there are some more interesting characters later on! As for the resources... well, I may have scavenged so much already that... before I even did the proving mission, I had upgraded all the inventory stuff/pouches to like level 3 capacity. lmaoooo. Same goes with the enemies. I see one or a group and I have to attack them haha. I had so many shards that I bought all the outfits at teb's store when you first meet him. haha

I have a number in mind for each resource that I carry. For example, if I exceed 200 (4 slots) of Chillwater, the surplus is sold at the next shop. 500 Ridgewood is almost always plenty. Who fires so many arrows that it’s not? It’s everywhere and can be collected rapidly. That’s true of most resources: it’s easy to collect more. There’s no need to compulsively gather everything. The only thing I always keep an eye on is my medicinal pouch. It stays full at all times and my health is always 100%, including on Ultra Hard. With “free health” growing everywhere, there’s no reason for otherwise. Some extra diligence is helpful early, while crafting gear is still an issue; and there are creation sections that are a bit resource intensive. Still, obsessive gathering isn’t necessary.
I’ll breakdown items into shards rather than leave them behind. (This might be a skill?) I don’t buy anything that isn’t the ultimate version of an item (Shadow weapons, and so on), thus saving shards. (I sometimes do buy one outfit to start.) I can’t really recall the prices on Normal, but I suspect that even in the more generous economy you will be short of shards for the best outfits and weapons if you try to keep buying everything. I’d recommend buying what you’ll use or must have. Later, when shards are abundant, but anything you might still want.
I love the focus. I wish MEA’s annoying scanner had worked in that way. Spherical AoE and target items for extra attention? Yes please. I like the extra cosmetics that unlock as you complete the difficulties, too. I think the “orange focus” is my favorite. I love the rain, windstorms, etc... in this game. (The sand and other particle effects are very impressive.) Vision is very subjective, though. Throw in varying consoles, TVs, etc... and it’s even more impossible to compare. I think the rain looks awesome, but I can see how it might get tedious. I only recall frequent rain in the Embrace, so I imagine you’ll escape it soon, as others have said.
I’m glad you’re liking it so far. There are many cool things ahead. This game is a treat at every turn. It never stops wowing with audio, visuals, atmosphere, and story.

I like how Guerilla cared to capture even minor details that a lot of people might not appreciate, something simple like the flick of the hands when coming out of water, and response to temperature change, when Aloy rubs her arms in the cold. MEA's scanner really should've looked more like the concept.

I didn't mind the weather changes either... and the blizzards in TFW just made it more atmospheric, and put you on guard more, as it's difficult to see and hear any bad guys you might stumble across. Sometimes I wish the wildlife was a bit more feisty... maybe not the smaller stuff but a deer or pig (or as in far cry 5 those bloody vicious turkeys) might stand their ground for once instead of just fleeing. But I guess it fits with the environment that they are more timid than you would expect.

Well i for one appreciate those minor details a lot and i'm on my twelfth/thirteenth playthrough and there are still lines ( when she's coming out of the water or something else ) when she's out there doing her thing that i've never heard before and that amazes me every time. And some of the lines she's says are quite funny. But when it comes to her response to the cold in TFW i have to say something negative because no matter what armor she wears she's always cold and that's not ok. So her Banuk armor does not protect her well enough in the cold it looks pretty warm to me though.

Welp, I climbed a Robo-Giraffe last night! That was awesome.
And I did a couple vantage points and let me tell you, boy am I relieved that they aren't just copy/paste boring tasks like in Assassin's Creed games cause that's what I was expecting. I like how you activate the focus and you get to see what that particular place looked like in the metal world days and you get a little story snippet with it. Such a nice touch!
Still haven't done much story wise because of stuff like this. It's too interesting just exploring. The main mission says I'm supposed to be level 12 I think? I'm like level 14 or 15 haha

So her Banuk armor does not protect her well enough in the cold it looks pretty warm to me though. I did notice that, but I wonder how they'd make it work. Maybe if the game had an environmental hazard mechanic, but I'm really glad it doesn't. It's already enough that some robots spit huge plumes of fire or really annoying ones spray cryo blasts from above (motherflippin GLINTHAWKS!). In any case, the bigger pre-rendered cutscenes throughout the game make it difficult for me to use any armor other than what Teb makes for her. I hope Guerilla fixes that in any follow-up title. I can deal with cutscene weapons, like how she'll have the big War Bow before I even have one in my inventory, but a total change of getup is too much for me to ignore.
