Until you see one of those carriers in real life you can't realize just how big they are.  I was in San diego for a conference a number of years back and the naval base had a carrier there.  It was an awesome sight.  The height of it took me more than the actual length.  Was very cool.

So they have found USS Johnston and USS Samuel B Roberts.

Don't know about you, but to me this is almost as if they've found some religious relics. They're lying in a deep ocean trench at almost 7 km depth, the deepest shipwrecks ever found. I've posted links previously in this thread to the battle of Samar.

Johnston was a Fletcher class Destroyer and Roberts a Butler class Destroyer Escort (Frigate). Fletcher was the big WW2 class of Destroyers. I think it was even the biggest class of warships ever built, some 400, I think. The Butler class was built late in the war and never fully completed, some 80 built, before the end of the war.
