I had no problems reading it, and I was somewhat entertained and somewhat impressed.
(However, while you don't want any critique, and this is terribly subjective, none of the persons seemed like anyone I would care about?)

I've never liked the characters either, it was a background story for a game I ended up not playing, but I wanted to see if it's tedious to read because I keep trying to make things move from one another in an orderly fashion, but can't create excitement. I struggle with just not being interesting enough.

I am writing about Arlathvhen! I had a recent break through about it and not I'm gumming myself up again with little details that make me do "research" instead of actual writing.

Research or nothing.
I remember once researching... geez, what was it... Must've been some crazy stuff, like a SPIE rig or something of the sort. I do happen to write that fancy Clancy style stuff. When I actually do. Which is funny. I've only ever read one book by Clancy, and that was a translation. Rainbow Six... is a great title. Actually I read more Forsyth than Clancy. He seems to do the same genre to me.

Have written 1500 words today. Wanting to knock out a chapter today, but likely will not finish until tomorrow at around 3000+
Although I did google "how many words is a chapter" and wondered what you guys thought. The internet says 5k

Regarding research SerzasmilesjaDragonage research can kinda be circular because the canon keeps changing. It's not like the Tempest Sci Fi Manual they give you when you start MEA.

Yeah, which is why I stick to medieval history when doing research. Medieval research isn't going to help me write a Dalish Arlathvhen. I actually looked to state fairs and Burning Man.

Jeez, I was hoping to finish chapter 04 of Halo: Onslaught today but I haven't had the time and I got plenty of work to do. Once I get my computer progress will speed up.
And before I have gotten too far in, I decided how I want to handle Verdict in their crusade against the Insurrections and the Flood, their intended development paths are falling into place as I plan the details out. Some of the factions draw heavily from actual clans in the Halo community.

Regarding research Serza smilesja Dragonage research can kinda be circular because the canon keeps changing. It's not like the Tempest Sci Fi Manual they give you when you start MEA. The problem is with DA is that its very anachronistic. Which is one of the reasons its actually so well written imo, it feels familiar, yet different. But at times it does really throw off the reader. At times it seems that the DA world is almost a perfect mirror for our world at the turn of the first millenium. A lot of the thing that is happening in the Dragon Age also was happening in the tenth century IRL. BUT then a lot of the terminiology, societal norms, and technology comes from today. In the DA book with Cole it mentions 'sewers' I thought this was very weird so I looked it up, and if I remember correctly sewers weren't really a thing in Europe till the Nineteenth century. As far as it goes my books will also be a bit anachornistic, but not THAT much. I hope. The trouble is I am unsure if I should go for a mesh of different eras, or focus on the thirty years war as the main inspiration fo my novels...but then I do not know if that is considered 'medeval' or 'Renissance'.

I wonder what Arlathvhen looked like? I imagined 100+ aravels in a large circle, with some used as partial building structures in the center, all tucked among hills, trees, or the rocks of the Exalted Plains. All the magic happens in the center.

so what do you guys tell yourself when a little voice says to you in your head that the only person who's going to enjoy your writing is you? Not that it's bad writing, just that, as it's you who's written it, it is the most likely to be entertaining to you and no one else.

I don't think I get that particular voice actually...not being arrogant....just my voice usually says 'your grammar sucks, you are a shit writer, you will never amount to anything and will be working retail for the rest of your life.' Best thing you can do is KBO, keep at it, because good or not I can't see me ever not trying to be some sort of writer.

Best thing you can do is KBO, keep at it, because good or not I can't see me ever not trying to be some sort of writer. I was writing when I was 15. A romance about a Veterinarian lady who moved to a small town to practice and fell in love with a grumpy guy that was important in some way, can't remember now. My mother embarrassed me into stopping it. I turned to Sailor moon fanfiction after that, but never finished a story. Finished a couple one shots of Inu Yasha fan fiction at 17. Then stopped writing a really long time. I graduated, became a workaholic mixed with college, series of time consuming boyfriends. So there was this 9 year gap where I didn't write a single word. Now I'm all over Dragon Age. Although I pitched a polyamorous romance novel to the husband and he told me I was being racist with my Romani protaganist so I killed my original fiction and turned back to fan fiction again. I don't know if I'm a writer, but I am driven to help these characters find a voice. Otherwise they're not alive and that makes me sad.

I've actually been writing I think, off and on, until I was 11. Didn't actually consider it worth an occupation till I was 13. But even then I always wanted to do something else too and writing as secondary. Then there was getting into BioWare games which made me really learn, consider it a long term career, and even maybe using video games as a writing art form, and then my frustrations with politics (wanted to go into political talk radio but there are a lot of very talented voices out there, plus I thought my talents could be better served...elsewhere...) and finally I met my fiancee...and here I am. Writing a 7 book fantasy series. Hoping to do it well enough that I can eventually do this full time. And well I have like 3 decades worth of stories up here too so I'm not going away any tie soon.

I think about that a lot. When I'm writing essays or even RP posts. What I do is just brush it aside and just leave it to the reader.

I think the question is partially: Is this what I want to do no matter what people will think? People can love me, people can hate me, I hope to make a living off of it. But...I will never stop writing.
