Characters:
A rank I UR isn't even necessarily better than a rare/uncommon or even common character.
And now with 1.09 the more common characters have even been buffed massively.
The huge dilution of the lootpool will prevent "normal players" to ever reach a high rank on the UR characters - let alone XX !
I have played ME3 for 2500-3000 hours and even players like me cannot expect that.
Weapons:
See above but replace "huge dilution" with "gigantic dilution"
What helped me in ME3 was when I started to have the first weapons at X. From then you finally started to receive the things you were actually waiting for. BUT THIS WON'T HAPPEN IN ANDROMEDA as we have a dozen versions of everything now....

I got a Crusader in my Apex pack, even at 1 it's a good gun. I'm not venturing into platinum anytime soon, so I'm mostly concerned with how things work on gold.

A rank I UR character is perfectly playable. A rank I UR weapon is perfectly usable and in many cases better than lower rarity guns in its class.
There are a few cases where the UR designation makes sense because the UR brings a new mechanic: like the Human Kineticist who has a unique Ascension mode, or the Kishock Harpoon Gun which has a unique "bleed" (damage over time / DOT) effect.
But the majority of URs are just "this is better" and that is by design, per Bioware, straight from their mouths during one of the Twitch streams.

I like the update and don't get all the complaining. After a week I have all characters < Rare at XX already and all rares at XV+. Lots of weapons to unlock. The amount of Ultra Rares is a motherucker I'd agree. I was at the point of getting only boosters from premium packs for 1-2 days straight before 1.09. Was down to playing the gold apex missions and challenges then logging off. Now it's fun again. Unfortunately once only UR stuff is left the game will be dead to me again. It's not fun enough to stand on gameplay alone without frequent unlocks.

I feel like siphon radically changes the "This is just better" intention for vast majority of players. This is actually the most surprising aspect of this change. Enemy burst damage is low in this game. What generally gets you is getting chipped down to the point where a positioning error gets you killed rather than wounded. Siphon largely negates that, meaning a strong rare siphon gun craps all over any ultra-rare until it reaches its own siphon variant (lol good luck). |

I expected more or less that response, but seriously, it _has_ changed. At least before the loldamage was offset a bit by the fact that you had to be up in the grill of whatever you were killing. With the Siphon effect you're effectively immortal on Gold and noticably more durable even on Plat. Once more people have them they'll be the only thing equipped in every lobby. |

...but I felt like maxing out my manifest in ME3 was just the beginning and kept me playing more. Totally agree. I played even more ME3 after I got everything maxed. Before that I was mostly just stupidly grinding for credits to unlock everything fast. I don't see that happen in MEA. |
