I don't know, I still think Telltale fans has the Bioware fandom beat or that at least the Walking Dead side of the Telltale fandom does. Any Walking Dead fandom would win that battle. When IMDb had a forum that particular one could get rather surreal. Comics fans against the TV fans, and vice versa. Not my thing but reading the forums could be entertaining...much like us, I suppose. Huh, that's interesting. I thought the... intensity of the Walking Dead side of the Telltale's fandom might have been somewhat due to how the Walking Dead games aim at invoking emotional response in the audience amongst other things. If the Walking Dead fandom in general is like this then my theory on it may be wrong.

Just came from the the Curious about the complaints about Andromeda thread and it's, for the most part, is civil with both sides presenting their sides without hostility. I think the difference between them are the posters and the content of the thread. The difference is I, or someone that legitimately didn't like the game, didn't create that thread so people that feel the need to derail and attack threads like this haven't bombasted it.

If the Walking Dead fandom in general is like this then my theory on it may be wrong. I think kino was mostly referring to The Walking Dead fandom as a whole, not so much focusing on the Telltale games. The major TWD forums I've seen, sometimes the comic fans and the TV fans get into it like cats and dogs. Not that unlike Marvel and DC boards probably do as far as comic fans vs movie fans. On the TWD forum I frequent, most folks tend to behave, though - mostly. The comic fans have their area to go be happy, the TV fans have their separate area to go be happy, so the sides usually don't feel a need to clash much. Sure wish this place could behave more like that.

I believe you are correct. I've moderated other game communities but few are as passionate, both pro and contrary, as BioWare fans. I think it means a lot to people because many of us channel our own feelings into the characters we shape. We can be something we want to be, or something we are and see how it plays out. I know that for me personally, BW games helped me cope with depression. Especially DA2 and ME3. I felt really connected to Shepard's struggles and the many loved ones we both lost. DA2 was my first game and I had just lost my grandparents and was living with my mother and uncle, so Hawke's story really hit me hard. I get this--it becomes a kind of retreat that can be mildly therapeutic. I play games more often these days because I have such high anxiety/depression that I can't relax long enough to binge-watch a tv show unless I'm obsessed with it. and these days I'm on my phone a lot of the time I'm watching a show, because I need something to do with my hands, I hate just sitting there, and I like how it feels to interact with a gameworld vs passively watching. HZD is doing it for me right now--it's fun but also a more emotional game than I'd expected, as well as more mysterious and suspenseful, and I'm falling in love with it. I don't really care if I can technically relate to the character or shape the character, as long as it's a good game. I'll play anything with a decent story and/or immersive gameplay (like Fallout games, which lack in main story but are still really fun, and also gorey and sick in a tongue-in-cheek way I appreciate). But I think I loved ME more than the other BW games because I could relate to femShep beyond any other character I'd played before. In addition to being fem, she was introverted, insightful, uninterested in small talk (only in getting to the bottom of things), and just always no bullshit, but she was also someone like me who was better than me (braver, more selfless, stronger, wayyyy more confident): something I am but also something I wanted to be, too. It puzzles me when people say Shep is boring. I think why I couldn't relate to Ryder is because she didn't seem to have much of an inward life in comparison, I couldn't quite connect with her go-lucky extroversion--she seemed so bland in comparison to me. But it's not just Ryder--no character has really been as satisfying to play for me than Shep, though I have a feeling that Ellie in TLOU2 will be pretty satisfying for me to play, based on her personality in 1.

Apparently a lot of my posts got wiped out... not that I can blame the mods... the wiped posts in question were a bit... vitriolic. I got heated and I apologize. Kinda easy to get angry when people shit on things you love, but that is my damage, not anyone else's.

Providing information that not everyone is aware of? Just today there's been an influx of new posters who didn't have a clue about "Jason" - I think it's beneficial to get this info out there, and this video hasn't been posted on the forum yet. It's very informative, wouldn't you agree? Lol. "Jason" In quotes, cause, ya know, gotta stay mysterious.

I suppose that could get particularly ugly. But overall, DragonRacer's right. The TWD fandom in general can be very...passionate.

Kinda OT, but I have to ask suikoden a serious question. No snark, no loaded bullshit, just an honest-to-God question. Why, suikoden , were you so thrilled (or at least seem like you were thrilled) when Kotaku was running the doom and gloom articles? (Kinda assumed that I am blocked at this point, but I might as well try regardless.)

If you ever want to read an example of just how ugly it can get, I can recommend looking up threads from the finale of Telltale's TWD's season 2 because whoa, talk about things getting ugly and getting so quickly.
