Oh, I fully intend to do a 'lessons learned from past 3 Bioware MP games' thread for the Anthemites. Not in a mean-spirited fashion (well...) but in the spirit of 'be aware of this history'.

Unrelated, but I just had a thought that gave me a chuckle. When Anthem launches you're gonna see a bunch of us crusty meanies go mix it up with the wide-eyed crew who loves everything BioWare does in the Anthem uBSN forum and it's gonna be kinda hilarious seeing the clash of ideologies

You stopped playing because of the grindfest? Yeah, it's a bazillion times worse now. Do something better with your time. You mean like posting here? Yes.

You mean like posting here? Yes. Posting here really is more fun than the game. I sincerely enjoy the tomfoolery in the threads and the validation of not needing to play anymore.

I got carried by nat and Pat played a little around launch but gave up because of the epic fucking grindfest* and retreated to SP. This was before the patch that apparently fixed all the imbalances. Is it better now? I really want to like MEAMP as much as I loved ME3MP. EDIT: By grindfest I was referring to levelling, not getting new shinies. So if you didn't like the RNG character cards, well, that hasn't changed. My highest Ultra Rare N7 character is rank V and I fully expect that I'll not max my URs to full specs anytime soon. That said, if you git gud with basic human class (bronze pack characters which are easy to obtain), you can take them to Plats.

i think people need to stop worrying about maxing their manifest, as that seems to really be the primary complaint these days. just play the game, and enjoy the fact that you'll continuously make progress toward something. I think fewer people will complain about maxing manifest... if we didn`t need 20 cards to complete a character... UR characters are now the contents that will never be fully available to 95% of the player base. That makes sense from a "theorycrafting - did not try it yet" point of view. However, the drop rate seems massively biased towards characters (or, for me, though maybe some of the other stuff I got from the store changes how things drop for me)? *My* problem with all these new weapons is how long it takes to recustomize when you quick match into a mission which wants different weapons from your equpiped loadout: - There's no selectable loadouts, so you can't just go "pick my favorite assault rifle / pistol / sniper / shotgun" set for this character
- There's no search by name so you wind up having to scroll through a long list of them
- maybe half the time when you re-equip a weapon the mods get unequipped so it takes that much longer (not that you would probably have that if you like a mixed weapon pair)
- And, of course, if you had any weapon specific boosts equipped you will have to change them also
So, anyways, I certainly agree that there are problems with these changes - I just think people are focusing on theory problems rather than problems which annoy me... Edit: Actually, looking closer, I think I was getting something not too far from equivalent amounts of character and weapon cards for my rares (well... maybe 2:1 in favor of characters - that's not "too far" is it?) I picked up 80 rare character cards and something just under 40 rare weapon cards before I ran out of possibilities for character cards from expert packs. Currently (I bought a couple expert packs after getting my batarian to xx and, once again, all my rare weapons were maxed before 1.09), my counts of ranks on these new weapon variants looks like this: III: 1 II: 12 I: 12 (and 49 that I have not unlocked yet) And that is a strange distribution - I would expect that my "II" count would be much lower than my "I" count if this were just random picks.

Personally, I'm playing lots now. Got my go-to HA, all the asari (except duelist) and most of the regular tech characters maxed (or nearly so). I get my fix of playing space wizards with different magic powers. Took me ~3 years to max out ME3 gear, so I don't really care about that. I really like some of the characters because they play very differently. Even the much maligned huntress has suddenly become really useful. Doing the hack with a huntress and an avenger on platinum... easiest objective ever! Felt sorry for the HA and kroguard running for their lives the entire wave though (okay, not really).

I never got the sense from URs because of the slow buying rate.

This game sucks ass in comparison to ME3 but it's not about that. It's about whether you have fun playing it or not. For me the answer is no. I have more fun on other games like Overwatch but I can see how some people still have fun playing this. The longevity will never be there for the grind of this game.

I wonder why... Did you have all your rare characters maxed before you started spending those 2.5 million credits? If so, that seems very very odd. I would expect something not too far from half characters and half weapons when that is possible. (I will fix my previous post, now that I have taken a look at my own numbers...)

The game being worth playin is all about what each person plays the game for. I love running around causing explosions and taking down entire spawns of enemies. I love bustin the heads of kett. I love watching scorewhores after every wave pause and look at the scoreboard and wonder why they are getting outscored by a level 1 batarian. I also love opening packs just to see what I get.... yeah...I do. The game as it is now is good, you can average 3-4 premium packs an hour if you play right.

My answer is: No.
I used to love this game, some might have seen me as a fanboy. I invested over 600 hours and enjoyed it quite a lot. I would actually say it was a better game than ME3MP all the way to patch 1.08. But patch 1.09 is a total joke, it ruined the game for me. I can't put up with this mindless grind anymore. Even with a pretty advanced manifest at my disposal as it is, I have had enough.
For someone starting a new, fresh manifest, the grind is insulting. And I am not talking about RNG per se, but rather the regular stuff you have to unlock to build your manifest. Characters go up to level XX, guns go virtually up to level XXXX, and weapons mods go up to rank X, however (please someone correct me in case things have changed) you won't be getting weapon mods at all until all characters and guns of that rarity are maxed out. So yeah, that puts things into perspective.
