The best thing about the trailer (which as a non-Trekkie has me pumped) is the rage in the YT comments. "Women in positions of power? An outrage!" "Asian and black in space?! By god, I won't have it!" I start playing a banjo in my head when I start reading a YouTube comments section. Seems thematically appropriate.

Hopefully one day we will see an adaptation of Shepard's journey. The Red, one, the Blue one, or the Green one?

It is something I found nice about TOS. I rather enjoyed watching the diverse faces of humanity facing the unknown. The crew of Kirk's Enterprise was mostly human, and it was good. These days with all the aliens onboard it felt like it lost something. Just a small something though.

I can go on forever about how the plot of the 2009 flick is illogical trash. But I guess it's sort of holding up tradition, since Trek movies are generally pretty terrible anyhow.

I rather like the new Trek movies. All three of them have pretty much been solid Tier 2 movies. Though on the flip side I don't think I'd give a Tier 1 rating to any Trek movie...well maybe one Trek movie.

Wrath of Khan was good for its day, but gotdang is it difficult to muscle through how badly it's aged.

Wrath of Khan was good for its day, but gotdang is it difficult to muscle through how badly it's aged. For its time I really think it did good. Watched the space battle with my fiancee the other day and she liked it, though she is a James Horner fan too. For me though its annoying that it seems like the only way that bad guys can get an advantage over Kirk is when the writers intentionally go out of their way to make him out to be an idiot (when he's not). Both the Battle with the Reliant and the battle of Altimed in ST: Beyond could have been handled so much better.

The Voyage Home I know what I am about to say is sacriledge but Insurrection has always been my favorite Trek movie. With all three of the JJ verse movies also strong contenders. Though Voyage Home is about...third I would guess.

I say I really like the JJ movies and then they keep going down the list due to some of the other Trek movies. lol. Still at least I can safely say they are better then TMP, The FInal Frontier, or Search for Spock.

That mix of humor and seriousness would be perfect for Mass Effect.

That mix of humor and seriousness would be perfect for Mass Effect. Beyond was a great movie IMO and my favorite of the three JJ verse movies so far. One of my favorite scenes in the movie was like the second scene. Just after the Captain's log where Kirk and McCoy are talking about his father. Its a moment of what I like to call 'letting your characters breathe' and its something so few filmakers allow their characters to do these days. Including the first two JJverse movies. But that kind of thing is important for establishing character and just giving your audience a chance to relax and just getting to know them. Some movies are all action all the time, but that scene between Bones and Kirk is one of the things that made Beyond feel like a good mix between 'old' Trek and the new. A perfect hybrid. Its funny you should mention humor but I've heard that people hated the humor in Insurrection, much like Andromeda I suppose, but I ate it up. "Is a Photon Torpedo the standard message for when communications are out?" "I think its the standard message when you don't like someone" "Red Alert!" "I woudn't be surprised if history remembers this as the Riker manuever" "If it works." etc.
