That's OK as long as I can keep wrapping myself in blankets everywhere and any time, even in summer. It was always a horror show temp wise in the office I used to work in. I'd be sweltering hoping someone would tun down the thermostat and half the other people would be wearing sweaters and such. Same here, except I'm the one wearing a sweater while most (male) coworkers sit there in a t-shirt.

To eat pineapple pizza and enjoy savoring it, is actually quite easy. You just add garlic, pepper and chili until it tastes right. You mean onion, black olives and mushroom. Works for me. But still needs garlic and chili.

I'm tired of fictional characters that are unrelatable. They do not have to be likeable, but they need to have understandable motivations. We watched 'Suicide Squad pt 2' and I did not like nor relate to anyone. The characters were completely cardboard and both of us wound up cheering for the starfish. It's a comic book movie, so characterization was going to be thin on the ground, but Hollywood isn't even trying any more.
The same is happening in books. All of the literary ('good') books have protagonists who are genuinely awful people. Almost all of them seem to be whiny, self indulgent, entitled narcissists. In genre fiction, it's even worse. As for television, I want all of the characters of 'Blindspotting' to die in a fire.

Probably because the modern society that writes these stories have become whiny, self-indulgent, entitled narcissists themselves. Everything is about tribalism these days, people can't disagree with someone else without being labeled some sort of 'isct' or 'phobe' and the widespread use of social media leads to echo chambers where only those that follow one's personal worldview are considered 'good'.

I have this guilty pleasure of watching supposed ghost videos on Youtube. I think a lot of these ghosts and cryptids are just startled animals and hobos. Very controversial, I know. But the comment section on those vids would disagree. The same is happening in books. All of the literary ('good') books have protagonists who are genuinely awful people. Almost all of them seem to be whiny, self indulgent, entitled narcissists. In genre fiction, it's even worse. Now I'm curious. Any specific examples? I've ditched a couple of books for hating the protagonist

I get the impression many writers tend to be relatively self-absorbed, misanthropic people. Reminds me of Miyazaki Hayao's quote about anime: I can vouch for this take. I do some writing in my free time and will confess to being relatively self-absorbed and misanthropic Okay, my (second) unpopular contribution: humans will never accomplish interstellar travel. Chances are we won't even setup a permanent, self-sustaining colony elsewhere in our solar system. The Fermi Paradox has a very simple answer: space is too damn big and inhospitable to be meaningfully traversed. For better or worse, our species' future is here on Earth.

It is not just modern society however. I read a lot of 19th century literature and many protags are as described by mousestalker.
I find myself literally cheering for the slimy villain in some of these books or the villain turned villain though actions of others.

The Fermi Paradox has a very simple answer: space is too damn big and inhospitable to be meaningfully traversed. For better or worse, our species' future is here on Earth. But machines can. "The purpose of humanity was to invent the machine". The future of mankind is as pets of machines. If we fuck up and create AI that doesn't care about humans at the core of their behavioral psychology, humanity doesn't have any long term future. But as pets, I'm sure we'll be taken along to the stars. Alternatively, if we somehow manage to remain the masters of the machines, we will not accomplish interstellar travel unless we first create a space-living culture & civilization. But if we can do that, I don't see any reason why a such space colony can't travel to close stars. Regardless, all this lies further into the future than we can see today. Which is why we need to consider ourselves with threats like calderas and giant meteorites. And the threat of global collapse of civilization, which may well come to happen if we listen too much to child prophets.

It's self-evident to me, that any employer has the right to demand that its employees get vaccinated. The employer is in his full right to protect his business, workplace and employees. You don't have to do it, but you don't have to work there either.
It's also self-evident to me, that a government have no right to make any similar demand.

I have friends from all over the world, who I talk with on a regular basis. It makes me feel like many of the problems I have are first world problems. Politics doesn't make sense on a global scale. It also makes me skeptical about many of the extremist views I see in the media. But in the end, the best thing to do is to treat each other like humans and give a middle finger to politics.

As much as I find the elves of Middle Earth and Warhammer Fantasy to be "better than thou" special snowflakes they are miles ahead of this new generation of whinny elves that inhabit settings like Dragon Age or the Witcher.
At least the elves of Rivendell and Ulthuan had the martial/magical prowess to back up their claim of superiority. What's more, they didn't tell everyone how great they were, they just acted and let their abilities speak for themselves.
All these second rate elves can do however is opine about the great days of yore; saying how great and powerful they are all while they huddle in caves, hiding from the humans.

I mean most of them are suppressed (thus maybe "whiny" a bit which is totally understandable) and don't really put on airs. Some that do (like Solas) ARE superior. and i know nothing about warhammer but i don't think there's many tolkien elves that acted arrogantly towards other races. Maybe some of the Feanor sons and Thingol but they're like 5 people out of thousands. Neither Legolas nor Galadriel nor Elrond nor, say, Finrod were arrogant. You just seem to have some beef with them pointy ears lmao.

He acknowledges a hobbit's strength on the spot (which pretty much everyone else bar Gandalf and Galadriel fail to do), he doesn't really speak ill of the dwarves and his opinion of humans is not that they're weak by default but that they've become weak. Which he's wrong about but i don't see much arrogance in his words. honestly, humans in all of those worlds (again, know nothing about warhammer) are more arrogant pricks en masse.

What Beerfish said.
In fact a perfect example of what I am talking about happens in the Dalish elf origin in DA:O. The PC and their fellow hunter come across unarmed humans, who are offering no resistance and are merely asking for passage and the first thing the other elf does is brandish his bow & arrow and begin threatening the unarmed peasants. He goes on at length about how great the elves are and at how superior their society is all while with two men, who are unarmed and not in anyway a threat, are held captive.
A very similar scene happens in the Netflix adaptation of the Witcher with the elves gloating about how great their society is to a tied up Geralt and his bard associate.
Both scenes demonstrate these new elves whinny nature; not only that but they are apparently too timid to actually showcase this supposed superiority instead lording over parties that have no means of fighting back.
And the elves of Warhammer Fantasy are very much arrogant to all the other 'lesser races' around them. The High Elves will kill upon sight anyone caught on their magical nation that is not permitted to be there but they expect all the other nations around them to allow their own diplomats free roam across the world. Plus, they feel that they need to help protect the other races from themselves and frequently see themselves as the guardians of the world. They of course back all this up with massive armies and fleets that they use liberally. Of course, it being Warhammer, all the other races have comparable forces at their disposal and frequently come to blows with the High Elves.
