I shot a deer and mounted its head on my wall this season. Thoughts? if you ate the meat or sold it on to someone who would eat it and used the skin or sold it to someone who would use it I don't care what you do with the head, killing something just to have the head is dumb and problematic for the future survival not just of that animal species but also for humans in the area, sure we can eat most animals on the planet but a varied diet based on local flora and fauna is better than a fixed diet across the planet based on a narrow selection of farmed produce.... keeping a momento of a kill and putting it on display isn't really a problem, I even agree that paid for hunts in the savanah or national parks are a good thing so long as the licences fund the parks work and do not endanger populations being kept there. Ayy, your final bit there is actually my response to this. Again, I think it's absolutely stupid to hunt an animal specifically to attain a trophy, but if it's not endangering the population of said animal, I don't see any true issue with it (and honestly, unless the animal is important to the ecosystem I still don't care even if it's hunted to extinction). Also yeah to clarify I mounted its head on my wall and then had some excellent, personally procured deer meat (which I assure you makes it taste better). Didn't put a bullet in it just to get the head. If I wanted a trophy, i'd make a Youtube video of me trying to stab coyotes to death or something. Y'know, make it interesting.

I hate vehicles that beep the horn when you do anything to them. Click your lock key fob and the horn honks, unlock, horn honks. Blinking well irritates me.

There are very, very exceptionally few species I can think of where this is the case. The only one that comes to mind is actually one that is being actively exterminated; Dracunculus medinensis, aka "Guinea Worm". Former President Jimmy Carter, through his Carter Foundation, is working to eradicate both the worm and the disease ( Dracunculiasis) that is caused by it. Since the 1980's, the Carter Center has led the effort to bring the number of cases down from over 20 million in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeastern Asia, to less than 200 cases as of this year. This species will soon be a goner... and if you look at what it is and what it does, it can't happen soon enough. It's a parasitic species that, as far as has been observed by biologists and parasitologists, only affects we homo sapiens. No other species has been observed to be affected by the Guinea Worm. It's loss will only affect us, positively. I'm serious, don't look if you have a soft stomach.

See, this is what I was talking about. Even the fucking German pigs are huge assholes. Legitimately, if anyone here is a hunter and you see wild hogs, don't hesitate to drop as many of them as possible. They're massive pests who cause immense harm to crops 'n' the environment plus like we've both mentioned it isn't uncommon for them to attack people. In the US, there actually isn't a hog season because of how big of a pest they are and you're allowed to kill them all year round.

well I hunted small game with a spear but bigger game that's more flighty I was forced to use a bow, and for the population control stuff it was normally done with an SLR (yes I mean the FN-FAL version) because its got stopping power auto reloads decent range and you get 20 shots instead of one so you can drop a pack of wild animal pests in a few seconds rather than hitting one and then needing to wait an hour for them to reappear to take another one out .... never done a safari though, and due to work commitments I didn't get to go hunting in Germany either although that might of been fun especially sicne they primarily use big guns for the stopping power needed for a giant boar worst wild meat I ever ate was on a course when I was forced to eat the only supply of food the rat.... god I hate those things.... still creepy as they are they did keep me alive for 2 days before I got found and given a good kicking for the next 5 days ...... fun times wish I could do it again because you know that would mean my body was broken.... not because i'm some kind of masochist...... but you know even mink is edible it just doesn't taste that nice (makes lovely fur though) and sicne I had to kill some I did eat them as well, most of the time I just cooked up the corpses and fed the pigs on the farm though

Anyone who tries to justify trophy hunting or poaching is a moron I'm sorry you feel that way. I do generally try not to be a moron. I understand the argument is counterintuitive, the video I posted goes to significant lengths to acknowledge that. And if it in any way helps to avert the perception of stupidity in what I'm saying, I would never try to defend poaching (which I see as both barbaric and self destructive), nor would I justify the actions of the person actually indulging in trophy hunting.

I wasn't going to poke my nose into the ever controversial hunting argument but I am weak willed.
'Trophy Hunting' is another in a long list of phrases that needs a bit of context. If a person goes out of their way to get the biggest buck they can and still makes total use of the animal food wise and such are they lumped in with another group of 'trophy hunters' that care only about the the rack or antlers?
Poaching is almost universally a bad thing but that words meaning/context has changed over the years.

Right. The argument isn't that trophy hunting is itself a good thing. By and large, people generally accept that you should not indulge in the needless killing of another living thing that has done nothing to you. The argument is that, given the current economic situation, the continuation of monetized trophy hunting is the best course of action for the preservation of some species. It's like the classic trolley problem, where you have to direct a speeding trolley into the path of one person in order to save five others. People who argue for the utilitarian option aren't saying that causing an innocent person to be run over by a trolley is a good thing. They're arguing that it's an unfortunate but necessary sacrifice in order to save the lives of five other innocent people. Anyway, all this talk of conservation brings me to my unpopular opinion: We should just let pandas die out. Most species we're trying to save at least meet us half way. Pandas spend all day eating the equivalent of junk food and refuse to mate with each other. They've given up. So should we.
EDIT: As it turns out, pandas were actually recently declared no longer endangered. Though I still disagree with the obvious disparity between the amount of money we spent on pandas versus their actual contribution to their habitats, I can't exactly say it's all a wasted effort anymore.

Personally, I think in the case of endangered animals that simply aren't showing signs of recovery, we should take a member of the species and freeze it until we get to a point where we can simply clone them. Hell, I think I even heard recently that we're almost there. Like, it was something about being able to create a fetus using literally any cell from the body or something. Not sure if it was legit or not.

Unless they overwhelm you The comment was facetious, as coyotes even in decent numbers would almost never attack a grown human. If they did though, i'm pretty confident that I could take a bunch of scraggly shits that are smaller than my actual domestic dogs.
